the only thing that should need to be proven to have the right to vote is your citizenship. period. limiting anyone's right to vote for ANY other reason is simply thumbing your nose at true democracy. Taking away felon's rights is plain silly for example. You do not accomplish anything by doing that. And in Florida, it has become unmanageable anyway if you want an example of how badly that law can and does work. people get blacklisted and they cannot seem to get off those roles, even they are not supposed to be one them in the first place. It is far simpler to give ALL citizen's the right to vote. Not to have to register - you ARE registered to vote BECAUSE you are a citizen. I may exercise to NOT vote yes, but the pains that this country goes through to keep people out is beyond me.

Giving toggles to students? Was: Fatality - Skydive Orange
tkhayes replied to AggieDave's topic in Safety and Training
I always have the students help me flare unless it is turbulent or otherwise tricky winds. I am there to TEACH them something, not just a joy ride. I open the parachute I show them normal flight, I show them turns and such, and I show them basic navigation back home to the DZ. I am hands off for some of that, but not much, and they are hands on for ALL of that. I am older and beat up, I can flare the parachute but it makes me tired and I often cannot flare (perfectly) due to my previous spinal injury. Basically yes, it is hard to do. So I spend more time setting up properly and not getting myself backed into a corner. So the student helps me. But not before PRACTICING it a couple times on the way down and constantly talking them through it on final approach. So far no problems. Teach, demonstrate, practice, critique, do it again. Pretty simple stuff. rather than say yay or nay to student helping with the flare, first look at how you actually do it. there is no black and white here. TK -
it's not just an 'application'. It took me 12 years. 5 years + to get a green card, 5 more years as a permanent resident before I could apply. another year or so waiting. you can speed it up a lot if you join the Marines......

Naturalized US Citizen, baby - I got to vote this year.....
-
Yes, it takes far less time to 'undo' things and cause harm than it takes to do good and build nations and societies.

not much will change even in a single term. Congress has proven itself to be mostly ineffective in the past 8 years. both at getting any real work done and getting away from partisanship. I hope groundwork can be laid for future generations, but even 2 terms is not a lot of time to change the world. In 2 years or less, he will start campaigning again for the next election, cutting into the work that needs to be done.

x3 I did not actually vote for him, but he will win I am sure, and it will not be a bad thing -

both, two, bunch of fakes, lesser of evils..... your choice I guess, but my ballot had 13 different candidates for Pres. plus amendments and judges etc on it. To say you are not voting at all, I think should be reconsidered. There are other choices. Trying voting for the person(s) that most closely follow your beliefs if you want to see some changes from the 2 party system. And i am sure your ballot probably has a lot of other stuff on it worthy of your choices.....not just the President. "I'm really a Libertarian - that's why i'm voting for McCain" (?)

we are not actually doing it, I am asking on behalf of a friend of mine. I already know it can be done, there seems to be some questions as to my friend's DZ, and I am helping them hopefully by finding someone who is already doing it regularly. It should be no different that a lot of similar door exits

There was another post last year sometime which turned into a bitch session about IAD vs everything else. But the question never got answered. I now need the answer - is anyone out there doing IAD out of a Cessna Caravan? thanks and let me know privately or otherwise. Just looking for some examples to compare it to Twin Otter IAD, etc. TK

you have to register with ft.com to see if, so most people will not bother.... me included

Let me fix some of that for you: The point of this is that people are considered for the burden they cause on insurance companies (society). Yes, this kid with Down's Syndrome is a burden. Last year, I posted "In a sense, a inexpensive health care system would e a cold, heartless system for anyone who is not providing any further societal benefit. But if society is going to be covering it, society ifs going to get the benefit. " (I had the worst typo day in history that day). This is an example of how private (social) medicine works. Insurance Companies (Society) make choices about what it will pay for. A kid with Down's? We ain't gonna cover that unless he was born here. And since we are socialized, there's no other way to alleviate that burden on society. etc etc I am not sure where you are getting your information from. Canada (for example) does not discriminate within it HEALTH CARE system whether or not you have Down's or anything else. But yes it does when you want to immigrate. The PRIVATE health care system here in the USA most DEFINITELY discriminates on who gets what, not based on your burden to society, but based on your burden to THEM. I am going through that right now, trying to find a policy when I broke my neck 8 years ago, even though I have made a 100% recovery - they still want to (and often do) deny ANYTHING to do with my spine. The gravy train that you talk about exists in either system. Socialized or not, if someone shows up in the ER with whatever life/death emergency - they are going to get at least some treatment, whether or not society, the insurance companies or no one is paying for it. That issue has nothing to do with immigration or the number of people that are immigrating. The USA is not the only country with an immigration problem. Canada, Europe, socialized and non-socialized countries that have a higher standard of living that the country-of-origin of the immigrants will see an influx of immigrants into those countries. Just because the standard of living is higher, not because the health care system is better. That is merely one of dozens of factors. So yes, if I run a country and I have to pick and choose my immigrants, I am going to most likely choose the ones that are doctors and scientists, the healthy and the wealthy, over the poor sick, uneducated and such. But there will still be poor, sick, uneducated people that are allowed in. Just not all of them. And countries allow int eh wealthy, educated and healthy - but just not all of them. Again, it is an immigration issue - NOT a healthcare issue. Nothing of the sort. TK

must be a message from God - he is angry that more Texans are not voting republican....
-
sounds like an immigration issue, not a 'socailized medicine issue' Lots of countries have similar requirements for residency, INCLUDING the USA sad, but the way that it is. I am sure if the family returned to Germany, their home country, they would have no issues getting the social assistance needed to help raise someone with Down's syndrome. And I am sure they doctor could find a good job in Germany as well - he is a doctor afterall. I do not see very many unemployed doctors out there.

leftists, liberals, democrats, tend to go business as usual. no big deal if they lose, continue on. Not since MLK's days have hundreds of thousands stood up for what they believe in with massive protests and such. Republicans, rightists, conservatives, tend to get more upset about stuff (which can be a good thing) - at least they stand up for what they believe in (even if they are wrong). We always joked in Canada when I lived there. In Canada, govt does stupid things- raises taxes, puts programs in place that are stupid, etc etc. Canadians whine and go all jelly-like "wellll, OK I guess...." Americans pick up a gun and shoot the President.... Now that is crazy, but at least it is passion. Gotta have some twisted respect for that. We would never do that in Canada. Funny how we see the same passion in Muslims as fanaticism and crazy. But yes, the right-wing is going to be the sore losers. So sore in fact that I fear some right-wing nut is going to take a shot at Obama when he gets in. "I ain't have no N------r running MY country. I will be the hero!" sad but probably true. TK

Halloween Party Costumes: Using A Skydiving Jumpsuit!
tkhayes replied to mdrejhon's topic in The Bonfire
I was stuck in Toronto one Halloween, put all my gear on for the hell of it and went out drinking as a 'skydiver' with a bunch of friends. Guy walks past me on Yonge St. and says "Dude!, Cool! an Astronaut!" ?? -
I have been running VMware Fusion on two machines. Have not run Parallels, so cannot comment on it, but no issues at all with Fusion.

what would happen if we closed down most of our overseas bases?
tkhayes replied to TrophyHusband's topic in Speakers Corner
Ah, fear and intimidation, the battle cry of the right wing...... If all these countries need our military might as their police force, then they can foot the bill. And if they can afford the bill, then they can do it themselves. - they would not need us. Shut 'em down The cold war is over -
we did a similar one. prints on a ordinary piece of paper, fold then fold, and you have a little booklet, 5 jumps, and room for all your propaganda. Been doing it for more than 15 years now. TK

The Rise of the United Facist States of America (UFSA)
tkhayes replied to tkhayes's topic in Speakers Corner
A larger danger than the USSA. The military complex. Out of control http://www.journalof911studies.com/letters/b/MarshallMilitaryIndComplexPNAC.pdf -
snipe all you want - you can also provide the stats please that say people are dying in the hospitals waiting and waiting in these countries. Plenty of articles here about deaths due to lack of health insurance, not just ER visits. http://www.google.com/search?q=deaths+due+to+lack+of+health+care&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a Is that why all those countries are on the top of the WHO lists? Because they provide lousy healthcare and higher costs that we do? Well actually the opposite is true The top countries have 'socialized' healthcare. Not 'socialized' governments. Many of them provide it at a LOWER COST per capita cost than is being paid here in the USA Therefore some have BETTER healthcare at a LOWER cost. Sounds pretty capitalistic to me. The people that are being taken advantage of and that are fed up are a wide stance of the population, not just those on food stamps. Half my staff right now lives below the poverty line. That's because business is slow. Business is slow for a lot of reasons, none of which are their fault. But they do not qualify for food stamps. But they also cannot just go get another job for the same economic reasons. But I digress. And none of them have health insurance because they cannot afford it I will take France's problems over the USA's problems (right now in this time) perhaps you could enlighten us on why their 'problems' are an indication of failure within this thread about health care......? They are #1 on the WHO chart for providing health care to their citizens. So obviously, even to some right wing extremist out there, they must be doing something right. Not everything, but definitely that. Universal healthcare is coming, mark my words. In this country, in my lifetime. It will happen.
-
you do it every day with taxes that pay for roads and schools. Rich people generally pay more and poor people generally pay less. Add healthcare to the mix. That is all I am saying. they died from the heat. Not the lack of doctors. tort reform does not mean tort elimination. I did not say that, what I said was the USA is heading in that direction. I even said we were smart enough to head that off before it happens. socialized or not, my neck repair would have been the same here as in Canada. And I was under insured apparently, since I was left with thousands that I had to pay and a trashed credit rating. files that were stacked high trying to decipher bills and claims, and trying to sift through the bullshit insurance stuff. I have already explained the ordeal several times in other healthcare threads right here, so I will not bother going through it again. Yes I had insurance, and medically, it worked for me. financially, it did not in the end. Took me years to recover the damage done. Why should I INVOLUNTARILY pay to subsidize my governments choice to participate in a risky (and expensive) activity? Like invading Iraq for example.

Still living here in Dade City, north of Z-Hills, still doing a lot of movie stuff, still involved and jumps here a few times each year.

we fundamentally disagree. I never said Cheap was the answer. The thread is WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION. there is plenty of wealth in the country to distribute to get QUALITY health care for everyone. yes availability may suffer some, but no one in all those 'socialized' countries is dying in the streets waiting for health care. Urgent care is always provided. But in the USA, people DO die in the streets trying to find a hospital that will take them. Florida is suffering under the crisis of malpractice insurance. Doctors are leaving in droves. OB's cannot even afford to operate (different issue, but still part of the bigger picture) Does not matter what anyone says. universal health care is a coming reality. it is an eventuality, maybe 10 years, maybe 20, but it is going to happen. Why? For the same reason that the French Revolution happened. The very large majority of extreme poor are tired of 'being taken advantage of' by the very small percentage of extreme wealth. They will rise up and behead them all. People like to make fun of the French, even me. But ever since the French Revolution, the French have done a great job of taking care of the French. American can realize and deal with that ahead of the 'revolution' or deal with the consequences of the 'revolution'. Since we are smarter than that, I think we will deal with it. Universal healthcare is coming because it is what civilized nations do. Oh that's right, America is not that civilized afterall...... What was I thinking..... TK Voting for what I believe in, not either of the two major parties.....
