wow from fox news? Well then it must be true. Let me see, an email was discussing the 'fact' that there was a CIA in Afghanistan and sometimes someone somewhere got paid money for information. Yep, I am sure NO ONE ever suspected that was happening during the war..... hang them all for treason. Tripe - absolute tripe - no details and certainly nothing that smells of evidence of any wrongdoing of any kind. And exactly the kind of tripe I would expect 'the other side' to conjure up, still hoping for shit to stick to a wall somewhere. there is absolutely nothing in this article that could not be dismissed by first year a legal intern in seconds in a preliminary hearing. But sure, from the right wing, it demands a full Congressional and DOJ investigation into this supposed evidence.

The $15 an hour thing is a red herring and if you actually READ the articles about the places that did it, those changes are going in over several years, not a quantum leap to $25 at once. It is not needed that is why. Take the minimum wage from 20-30 years ago, add inflation using CPI and you get about $11-$13/hour. And no one disagrees with the statement that minimum wage went a lot further decades ago compared to today. That would be something called 'common sense' if you want to have the same living conditions for people that worked minimum wage jobs 30 years ago, keeping up with inflation would actually help to accomplish that. I am pretty sure that you would like your pension, your IRAs, your wages to keep up with inflation, whatever job you have and whatever pay scale that you are on. Seemingly that logic always should apply to 'us' but never apply to 'them'. -

I never claimed it would solve all our problems. i claimed it is part of the solution and will do no harm, and will do good. There are many parts to solving 'the problems'. Minimum wage is one of them. And no I do not believe that a jump to $15/hour is in order, but I have no problem with a $10.50-$12 minimum wage (plus some future scaling up on CPI or whatever inflationary number is chosen) And I think it would radically change the face of welfare and food stamps in the country and drive GDP and consumer spending while having little effect on consumer prices. -

again, I GIVE UP.....WHY? You already know that there are 100,000 reasons why common sense legislation gets passed or not passed. You are simply trying to change the focus of the subject from the facts and basis of the subject to something else. a simple diversion. And by the way, CONGRESS, not Obama changes the minimum wage, and Obama has called for minimum wage increases many times during his presidency. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=obama%20calls%20for%20minimum%20wage%20increase And I believe he did already through executive action for federal workers and contractors, which is probably the legal extent of his ability. Now back to why we should be increasing the minimum wage, not why Congress has yet to act on it. -

I give up....why? no one said it would eliminate poverty BTW. For the 48th, it will be a good thing and will have ZERO negative effect on the economy. -

And for the 47th time.....one of the parts/solutions is a minimum wage INCREASE......glad you agree that income is down and we can actually fix it through a MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE. Yes that is the fact a minimum wage increase will help INCOME.....yes it will it will help people make more money the very thing that you are complaining about in your post is the very issue I am addressing in part with a MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE hello? hello? -

Only basic human decency. The more you hand out - the more takers take. If you give a mouse a cookie . . . Wow. You think that paying your full time employees enough money for them to live on is a 'handout' and you compare poor people with rodents. You really do make it very difficult to tell the difference between a conservative and a sociopath. awesome - well done - standing ovation. And a fundamental part of what is wrong with society today, a disconnect from humanity ... -

You're wrong about that. Many many if not the majority of corporations are doing fine right now. Consumer confidence is up (look it up) Corporate/Business confidence is about the same since 2010 (no negative effects, look it up) GDP is up Stocks are up unemployment is down Yes, it is not perfect, no it will never be perfect, no there is no solution of implementation of anything that will result in 100% success for everyone all the time, and to restate my case, there is NO negative impact on the overall economy, or the vast majority of Americans by raising the minimum wage and it would lift millions out of poverty. -
No she will not be charged, since it is a fairly common practice as already demonstrated by many other instances of the same behavior from all administrations since the advent of email. Whether or not you agree with it or want to uphold the law black and white doesn't really matter. There are plenty of laws on the books that are not enforced black and white and/or to the letter. Pretty obvious that when Colin powell, Condie's staff, others in the Bush admin, others in the Obama admin all 'make mistakes' or whatever you want to call it, does not automatically mean the full power of the DOJ is coming to rain down on their heads. Otherwise pretty much every politician would be in jail for whatever transgressions they committed while in office. Anti-HRC: She lied, she ordered the stand down of troops in Benghazi, she is directly responsible for the deaths of 4 men in Benghazi, she knowingly sent classified material via unsecured email servers and she is therefore guilty of treason and should be jailed and executed. (Most people do not even know what treason means or what you would actually have to do to even be considered for that charge. That is because most Americans simply are not that bright about their own country and are uneducated on civic matters in general.) Pro-HRC (or those that simply do not give a shit): No she didn't and no she's not. Of course each sides KNOWS 100% that their story is the correct one and is not willing to budge an inch. Has it successfully spent millions and millions of tax dollars and tens of thousands of man hours that could have been put to better use while running this through the gauntlet? Yes it has - that is my 100% fact. The thing I find funny is that instead of derailing the Democratic campaign into the hands of Republicans, it may very well have derailed the HRC and Republican campaign into the hands of a Socialist Jewish dude named Bernie. That would be as funny as shit.

Are you saying that drop in unemployment is due to people getting $15/hour jobs? No, I am saying that the increase in wage had no negative effect on the unemployment rate. How about this common sense tidbit, my 'opinion' with absolutely NO DATA to support it, but sounds reasonable: "Things in the economy are generally better these days, certainly better than they were 8 years ago - more corporate earnings, more people working, more people spending - that is a fact. So maybe we can splurge a little more. 'Splurging" could also mean asking companies (through regulation) to pay their employees a little more - hence a minimum wage increase might be a good idea - or certainly do no harm" -

wow - we agree on something.... And the reason that companies do all these things is because the law allows them to do it. It requires at least some level of regulation and oversight to force companies to pay decent wages, have fewer part time workers and more full-time workers, and to stop shipping their jobs overseas in the name of corporate profits. American (and global) productivity is through the roof for the most part - we are more productive than ever, so trickle down economics is not working either - because not only is that productivity not being reflected in the wages, the wage is not keeping up with inflation either - double whammy. fewer hours - triple whammy. jobs shipped out - quad whammy. And that is often blamed on the worker.... -

Are you keeping up with current news? What real data are you referring to? Me: Nothing bad happened when minimum wage increased Them: 2500 people lost jobs in LA, Seattle, blah blah blah etc Me: Unemployment is actually going down in those places (using real data) and continues to go down. People lose jobs for lots of reasons. No reason for their numbers was given - just a number. There is no correlation or causal effect from the wage increase to those jobs actually being lost, etc. (Using real sources and real data) Them: silence THAT data....you know, the data that is readily available from almost any source out there with 12 seconds of searching using any modern search engine. https://ycharts.com/indicators/seattle_wa_unemployment_rate https://ycharts.com/indicators/los_angeleslong_beachanaheim_ca_metropolitan_statistical_area_unemployment https://ycharts.com/indicators/washingtonarlingtonalexandria_dcvamdwv_metropolitan_division_wv_unemployment http://useconomy.about.com/od/economicindicators/a/Job-Stats.htm And supporting YOUR side http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2015/08/20/that-la-minimum-wage-really-is-causing-job-losses-you-know/#3469c4e65c47 Article from last summer stating that there are job losses....HOWEVER, only in a narrow sector as explained by the graph. So if unemployment is going down yet these people lost their jobs, then it is fairly easy to draw a conclusion that they found other employment and only a small sector might have been affected. Which goes to the arguments from turtle and yourself and others that wow, people CAN and DO other jobs and change to make themselves successful...so in fact MY data even supports YOUR theories, even while raising the minimum wage. amazing how data works..... -

No one is asking for $100K a year minimum wage - but keeping up with inflation might be a reasonable goal. How about $10.50/hour? How about $12? I guess your reasoning is so bulletproof as well right? I mean what you just said.....$100K....sooooooooo 'reasonable', no? try to have a conversation with facts and data, this is what we get I guess. I guess I should set my expectations lower. For the umpteenth time - Show me a source of data that contradicts what I said. I can wait. -

Tell that to the unemployed ex-WalMart workers. And there is more to come. You're quoting an article from the Department of Labor, for this administration. And you expect us to take that seriously? Seriously? feel free oquote your own sources then. My claim was that no minimum wage increase in the USA ever resulted in a negative economic impact. none whatsoever, not ever. I was replying to post that stated 'an opinion' which i rebutted using 'statistics'. shame on me I guess for using real data. wow. no wonder the country is in trouble - I mean, who in their right mind would want to use real data when so many varied emotional opinions would obviously do better? -

short term and minimal effect and you are cherry picking on single item out of a vast set of economic climate statistics. You conveniently forget the overwhelming good things that have come out of it all. And a lot of the data is further cherry picked - people lose jobs for a lot of reasons, hundreds of restaurants close every year anyway - are these the same people being counted in the 'job losses'? Have you found any stats or published any stats about job gains? About welfare roles being reduced? About the overall rate of employment? I stand by my statement. if 2500 people lose a job that paid $8/hour and 50,000 people gain $3/hour in pay, sorry but the net gain is good for the economy. but I cannot find any numbers of restaurant workers for any particular location. So come back to me with something that covers the gamut of the economy if you want to debate it - there is NO evidence that 2500 workers losing their jobs is even an indication that it was caused by minimum wage hikes and even Faux News got called bullshit on their interpretation of it. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/1/1425663/-Seattle-Raises-its-Minimum-Wage-Jobless-Rate-Drops-Fox-Scrambles-for-a-Ladder-to-Pick-Cherries Actually, it is pretty easy to argue that when the minimum wage went up, people had opportunities to work in fields they would not have otherwise worked in because the wages were too low. Employment relatively stayed the same in Seattle, continues to decrease in San Francisco and Los Angeles. So I guess these workers you reference are not capable of getting any other jobs? Because the stats indicate that they already have. -

that is a theory not borne by any historical fact or statistic. There are other opposing theories and there is a ton of real evidence from prior minimum wage increases that clearly demonstrate that NO wage increase ever resulted in economic hardship or job losses, or detriment to the economy. Not ever. Not even once Nada, zip, zilch, zero. never in the history of the USA economy has a minimum wage increase EVER had a negative effect on the economy. But feel free to post the data that demonstrates otherwise. http://www.dol.gov/featured/minimum-wage/mythbuster -
In Morden, I landed in Winkler on a night jump..... I think it was my first night jump actually...
-
actually at Claresholm, we landed 5 miles west and 2 miles north one day in the foothills after climbing through solid cloud layer and flying a 2 minute box, guessing at the spot. alti's read 700' when we landed and one guy had a really low pull due to a pud problem.
-
I landed 7 miles from a dropzone on more than one occasion. Of course we had fewer rules back then.

I agree, however the claim was that success depends on your 'choices'. You can still have all this shit happen to you, deal with it and move on.... and be in poverty and despair, not success. 'dealing with it and moving on' is no guarantee of 'success'. And failing to succeed when you 'dealt with it' is not a 'choice' necessarily. You might achieve happiness or even reasonable mediocrity, which has nothing to do with success, but to think that anyone and everyone can simply 'overcome' any and all obstacles in life is delusional - what I said earlier. The evidence is not there today that everyone can succeed. 47M people getting food stamps at one time or another during the year while working a full-time job is not an indication that these people are somehow 'not dealing with it' it is an indication of a very damaged system that simply does not allow for success, or as many other have said throughout the posts - a shot at even a decent middle class lifestyle. your argument indicates that 47M people - about 1/3 of the American workforce are simply lazy and not driven to succeed - equally delusional. If hard work = success, then every immigrant Mexican worker in FL would be a millionaire. The world needs janitors too, and a janitor used to be able to afford life, even a meager one. Today, that is not possible. Raise the fucking minimum wage and watch how quickly we get people off welfare, and spending more because they have more to spend. Yes, your burger will go up in price, and you will sell more of whatever shit you sell or whatever service you provide. GUARANTEED TO WORK - since it has in fact worked at every time in history..... -

patently false and almost delusional. sickness disease family problems accidents loss of jobs lawsuits wrong accusations people fucking you over just some of the 100,000 reasons people might not succeed in the world or in life and mostly completely out of any of their control. You might be living proof, and good for you, but there are probably millions that are working just as hard as you are and don't share your success
