  1. Yeah, like jakee says, £250 is a bit high for a standard RAPS fjc and 1 jump. AFF is normally arround £1250 ish for 8 levels, but the websites of the DZs you are looking at can give you the exact amount. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  2. The photos the 'seller' sent me look just like a rig that was for sale a while ago, could have been lifted straight off there. Think I will stay well clear of this one. Although the proce has dropped to £997...what a joke since it apparently has 1 jump on it
  3. Hi, not sure if this is the right forum, but what do you guys think - scam or not? I think a wee bit dodgy. [in reference to a rig this person had for sale] .............. Hello, Katherine we can deal safe easy and fast .Like i told you i will ship the rig to your home.I will pay all the shipping taxes , so you don't need to worry about that .Like you said for my safety i want you to make a deposit at western union on my address from London UK , but please change the name of the receiver into what name you want (your husband, brother, father's name ) i want just to verify the deposit at western union and after that i will send you the rig. After you test it and jump with it , if you keep it you need to go again at western union and change the name of the receiver into my real name so i can pick up the amount . If you don't like it you send it back with no charges , i will pay them , but is hard to belive that if you want to buy it you will send it back it has only 1 jump and is almoast new . Also about the fees you need to pay at western union for this deposit ,if you don't agree to pay them , you can take from the total amount how much you need to pay . I make all this because i really want to sell it fast . For inspection i can let you only 5 days , hope it's ok . I wait your answer. ............... So, scam or no scam? 4. Endsligh (sp?) have cover for skydiving quite cheeply. A lot of people from my uni have used them, but I can't remember exactly how much. Checkout their website or give them a ring. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  5. Hi I didn't have the snot thing, but have been really dizzy after a jump. It lasted a few hours where I was really dizzy, then took about 4 days to return back to normal. Felt really rough at the time. I didn't get any treatment for it, I was just told that it would go away on its own. Hope you feel better soon. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk

  7. Hi Jack Cheers for the input. Why did you change canopy after only 25 jumps on it? Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  8. Hi I know, this is another one of those 'what canopy' posts. Sorry There is a rig for sale in clasifieds http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=36893&d=1 with an Icarus Omega 159 main. I was wondering what kind of a canopy they are and got the impression they are a high performance canopy for swooping etc, but in their website they say "At lighter wing loadings (below .9 PSF) it is a good student canopy or first canopy or for someone who just wants to take it easy. At heavier wing loadings (up to 1.5 PSF) it will get zippy and fun while maintaining cruizy openings and landings. Being a 7-cell of conventional construction the pack volume is very small." I weigh 135-40 lbs so that would put me at a wingloading of about 1.0 - 1.1 on it, which I would have thought would have been nearer the "below .9 PSF) it is a good student canopy or first canopy" side of things. However on Incarus's weight table http://www.icaruscanopies.aero/canopies/Omega/techdata.htm that puts me at "Cauthion! Highly spirited!" Is this correct? I have 62 jumps and was wondering if this would be worth considering or if the eliptical canopy would be too much to handle for a first rig? I always have nice stand up landings and I am currently jumping an old PD190 and there is no rush to downsize as I have acess to a sabre1 170 (uni club kit). Obviously before buying any kit I will ask my CCI's and instructors advice - I was just wondering about the canopy charachteristics and if it was even worth contacting the seller

  14. We arrived on a busy weekend, but were made to feel very welcome, with everyone working super hard packing hire kit etc to get us in the air. The rigs at the centre are very nice and new and there was some demo kit available as well. Even though there are only small planes that climb slowly you can still get in the jump numbers and a Cessna 182 and Cessna 206 were both operating when we were there. During the ride to altitude there are great views over the coast the surrounding countryside. On most of the loads altitude was 9000ft, but on two loads we got 10500ft. The landing area is huge so ideal for students / those with poor accuracy. The manifesting system was fairly laid back, but it was easy to get on a load while also easy to fill a load. DZ control were always willing to watch people do their CH2 exercises etc even though there was a charity event with 20+ tandems being conducted. We stayed over and camped, this was a little ad hoc with no actual camping area at the time, but we were shown a bit of flat grass around the side of the centre. The showers are actually hot and well worth the £1 required. This is a great little DZ and well worth a visit for a few fun jumps.
  15. so when he is under canopy, climbing in and out, is he attached to anything? Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  16. Yep, I have skydiving dreams quite a bit. Ususally include a low pull, impacing at line strech, being absolutly fine but very embarrased. Often they are semi lucid dreams and I can controll them to some exctent, not emought to change what is happening, but the minor details like what the weather is like, what field to land in etc. I really like dreaming
  17. It is a static line progression on RAM air caonopys. Kind of good for cash strapped students as it is a more pay-as-you-go method, although I think you might end up paying the same to get your A as AFF, just spaced out over longer. Also quite a few of the uni skydiving clubs in the UK sub RAPS jumps (thank you tax payers). It is theoretically an 18 jump minimum progression, but combined with dummy pulls and the UK weather (esp uni students starting in september) I am not sure that many people do it in 18.

  19. Ain't that the truth. My father and I own Eastpack Backpacks. Just simple little school bag type. Well he's has his since I was a tot, and a few years ago on of the seams failed as well as the zipper was wearing out. Since they have a lifetime guarantee he sent it in to them, but afraid they would probably just replace it and as his had sentimental value since he hauled our things in it for years while we were growing up, he asked if it could be repaired. I must have cost them 3 times as much to repair it, than it would have to replace it, but that's what they did.......
  20. I just got my irish passport today, woohoo - so I have the option to not travel on my British sometimes. I love Ireland, when we go and see family it is always 'welcome home wee kathleen' (not my name) even though I have never lived there, my dad has never lived there and mum has no connection with Ireland at all Great bunch of people, the hospitality is second to none (ok, maybe polish).

    bad dream

I have had this dream too - I was pulling at about 50ft and impacting just as it opened, totally fine but really embarrased. I landed in what looked like an allotment, very strange DZ. There was a tiny plane in the middle of nowhere and we were paying 2X jump tickets to go to 20,000ft (no oxegen) Had another strange one the other night, was going shopping with a friend, we got inside the building and all the floors were taken out, you had to BASE jump off to get out (the escalator only went up). I was well up for it and it was very fun (all 4 storys high) but the landing was a bit hard. I got to keep the rig. I took it back to my uni halls to show everyone and people wanted to jujmp of the balconys (about 15m at the most). I was dead against this as it was far too low. Everyone kept asking me how high you go up when you open the canopy and I was getting really annoyed with them all and they wouldn't listen to me. Anyway, when I finally looked at the people jumping off the balconys, they were actually going up. We worked out later that it inflated itself with helium on opening so you could BASE jump form 10m I'm putting that one down to exam stress Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
