Body Position in freefall for good skydivers ??
skrovi replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
thanks, just curious how can you become an AFF instructor with 2 years in sport and 300 jumps. I though I read somewhere that you need at least 3 - 4 years in sport with certain number of pre-requisite jumps, but then may be the rules have changed or you have not updated your profile. -
Body Position in freefall for good skydivers ??
skrovi replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been watching several video on the internet on skydiving, freefall, etc. What I've noticed is that some people seem to be able to pull off the freefall elegantly even with not so good arch or nice body position. Especially I've watched the world freefall'06 in Thailand videos. Question is can some skydivers be good skydivers even with no so graceful or nice body position? like legs not extended, hands allover the place, the side view of their body appears like a flat board from their head to their knees and the legs bent over their butt, etc. I reason I ask is because if I were to do that I would probably lose heading or back sliding, etc, etc. So do all experienced skydivers have graceful freefall body position? Question # 2: Also I have observed that experienced skydivers legs are not shoulder width apart, they are closer compared to new jumpers like me. Is it because they can balance with their legs closer, may be?? thanks, -
600 jumps in 24 hours by one man.
skrovi replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
that's one heck of a challange to accomplish. Initially when I read the heading on the post, I immediately got down to doing the math to figure out the frequency of his jumping (25 jumps each hour for 24 consecutive hours). The only factors I can think that might prevent are i) fatigue ii) weather iii) logistics issues Also, it might be a lil difficult to maintain the 2.4 minute per jump frequency/interval for jump after jump for 600 times. One slight delay means the next few jumps needs to be done that much faster or shave off few seconds from each remaining jumps. I guess being a part of former SF gives him that mental and physical stamina. Also before reading the entire threads in this post I was not sure if its a skydive, but now I'm convinced, each time you step off that ramp of an aircraft and land safely under a canopy is called a skydive, but then what do I know. I could only wonder, how his log book will be filled with 600 jumps in a matter of 24 hours. Good luck!! -
I did 10 minute tunnel time with four 2.5 minute session with 2 minutes break after each session. I had an objective for each session

Wind Tunnel is not the same as Skydiving

hello: I'm a new jumper with 32 jumps and was heading up to Orlando on some work and figured I could use the trip to sharpen my freefall skills in the tunnel there. What I experienced is completely different. Firstly, I was disappointed with my performance. I found it hard to fly stable maintaining heading in the Tunnel Vs in freefall. It seemed more turbulent in the tunnel than it is in freefall. And needless to say, I looked like I'm fighting to remaining stable. My instructor at the tunnel told me that he sees lots of skydivers perform poorly when introduced to tunnel with my experience level. I've not jumped after the tunnel time and would liek to see if it improved my skills. So I would like to get responses from anyone who can comment on what I saw is normal and any further comments on how I can take what I learnt in the tunnel to improve the freefall skills. thanks,

Question about Far's and intentional cutaway's?
skrovi replied to Rdutch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Could you pl. provide with the link to that video on intentional cutaway. I would be curious to see how the whole thing works? -
I just wanted some clarification on this question, Can A-License holders perform water jumps?. I referred to the USPA manual and this is what it says "Persons holding a USPA A license may jump without supervision, pack their own main parachute, engage in basic group jumps, perform water jumps, and must have-......" However, I was told you won't be allowed to do water jumps unless you have a b-license. Can someone pl. clarify this? I have also heard other stories that A-license holders performing water jumps at boogies etc. thank you.

I had similar problems in my first couple of jumps, where my inner thighs were bruised during openings. Subsequently, it went away, and I concluded i) student rigs are not custom so they might not fit everyone well, so bruises during student status is not very uncommon ii) tighten the leg strap tight enough that you are comfortable iii) not too tight that you won't feel comfortable while arching in freefall. I've had a jump where I had tightened my leg straps so hard that during freefall I wished that I could loosen just a lil bit. On each subsequent jump I figured how to get it just right on the student rig.

Newbie Unintentional Spin Question
skrovi replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
***What kind of training program are you in? If you are still working with an instructor or certified coach they are the people you need to get advice from, there is no better way than to get first hand evaluations. I'm done with my AFF on my 10th Jump, did 3 fun jumps and wanted to work towards my A cert. So coach jumps I guess are towards A certification. MY AFFI coach who jumped on a linked exit did critique by saying be more aggressive and control you body and relax. "Relax" is something I've been hearing again and again. Its just hard not to stiff up when you get into a fast spin. So I'm trying to understand what not to do so that I end up into that unintentional spin position and eventually end up with stiff body which can only worsen it. -
Newbie Unintentional Spin Question
skrovi replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
***Get with your instructors as there are many ways to skin a cat but it is difficult to skin one online I agree, instructors are the best source to correct the freefall issues, however, I just figured with the wealth of knowledge available online in this forum, might just give it a try as well. I guess being a new skydiver it just feels reassuring to hear the same thing again and again. -
Newbie Unintentional Spin Question
skrovi replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was wondering if some fellow readers can help me correct my unintentional spins to the right side. I've 15 jumps and on my first coach jump I had problems. In the last few jumps I'm slowly drifting towards right and if not corrected the spin gets faster. I'm right handed, so that being my dominant side I must be doing something that causing me to turn unintentionally to the right. Now I've never gone into an unintentional spin on my left. When the spin speeds up I do all the steps taught such as relax (may be my body is stiff), toe taps to make sure my feet are aligned, arch hard, legs out, and I also give the opposite control input to stop turn, head up and looking at the horizon. I hope I can figure that finer detail that can help me fix it.
