  1. Unfortunately though, we don't have the temperate weather of So Cal, plus we have foxes and such running around in the middle of the city. So I don't suspect she and her babies will survive long if left alone. I'd take her in long enough to find her and the kittens a home, if I thought I wouldn't be endangering my own boys. The kittens are really cute; I'm sure once old enough, I could take them to the Dumb Friends League and they'd be adopted. And I would keep the mama, or my boyfriend would, if she's not feral and can be litter box trained. If I didn't know about them, I could just let nature take its course....but now I'd really like to help them. Just not sure whether or not it's the right thing to do.
  2. We discovered a young-looking mamma kitty and her three kittens living in the bushes outside our home. Mama is not happy at all when we come near, lots of growling and hissing. My question, for those who are in the vet profession, or who have a lot of experience with cats, is, what can/should I do to help her? I put some food and water out; I checked and the food had been mostly eaten. Do I traumatize her by trying to catch her? I worry about bringing a stray into my home, as I have two indoor kitties that I wouldn't want to be exposed to anything the strays may have. But I don't want some critter to get the cats, either. We have plenty of predators out and about and I don't know how well they'll survive. I don't think Animal Control will come out..they usually tell you to catch it and take it in to the Dumb Friends' League. But I know the DFL winds up having to euthenize a lot of the cats who are brought in. I can't tell if it's a feral cat that had kittens, or a lost cat, or a cat someone just dumped off. The kittens don't look to be newborn; they're eyes are open, but still blue, and they're a little bigger than newborns typically are. Any advice on how to best help these cuties?
  3. Hit the brakes now! Soon enough she will be asking: ...how do they get from driver's permit to diapers so quickly?? Ooh, that rings a little too close to home. I see people in adult diapers every day that I work. Believe me, I see the future, and it is not pretty! (That's why I'm treating her so well now...some day, I'll be at her mercy )
  4. LOL, well, it wasn't me. I've never smoked and this happened between Cheyenne and Laramie. On the plus side, the guy in the seat beside me immediately professed his undying love for me because we didn't die!! Kevin Cartie, are you out there anywhere?!!
  5. Do they realize anything is dangerous?! I remember at age 18 flying past people on a snowy highway in the winter. 5 minutes later I hit some ice and did a 360 to the right, a 180 to the left, and wound up in the ditch facing the wrong way. Luckily, I didn't hit anyone else, didn't hurt myself, and learned from that to be much more respectful of road conditions. God I hope my daughter is smarter than I am....
  6. I lost someone very close to me very suddenly. At night I would dream that he appeared again, and I could ask him, "Why?" But in my dreams, he never answered. In my experience, it's that question - Why? -- remaining unanswered that makes it so difficult to move on. And really, it's never really 'moving on'. It will get easier to accept, functioning will become less arduous, but you will never, ever stop remembering him and wondering, "What if?" When you truly love someone, and then lose them, I don't think anyone ever quite reaches that far into your heart again. And that's ok. It's a tribute to what you two shared. Sorry for your pain.
  7. Yeah, I think I'll keep the adventures at the DZ, thank you very much! The longer she is afraid to go faster than 15 miles per hour the better!!!!!
  8. Well, I do have my pink Pro Tec I could make her wear. That would go over really well!
  9. Yeah, me too. Around here they have to have their permit for a year before they can get their license....not sure if this is a state or federal regulation. I'm not in any hurry to have to purchase her a car anyway.
  10. I think we need to find a way to wrap their cars in bubble wrap for the first few years.....
  11. Hilarious!! As we were driving to the practice site, I was munching on a few of her french fries. She said to me, "So, I gather, when I start driving I shouldn't be doing what you're doing now?" I reminded her that I've been driving for more than 20 years (yes, I started when I was nine ) but that, true, it is best to focus on driving and driving only behind the wheel.
  12. I gave my daughter her first driving lesson yesterday Actually, she did really well, but it's so weird to me to see my daughter behind the wheel of a car!! She kept hitting the brake instead of the gas, but that's sooo much preferable to the other way around. Amazingly, I wasn't nervous at all, but I did keep cracking up at her crazy stops and starts. Then she'd have to stop because she'd start laughing too. Every time a car came anywhere in the vicinity (we were in a huge, mostly empty parking lot), she'd say, "OH GOD!" and hit the brakes. Right now she's convinced she'll never be able to drive on the streets with other cars, but I know she'll be fine. I'd be interested to hear others' stories of teaching their kiddos to drive...how do they get from diapers to driver's permits so quickly??
  13. "Triple-filtered for the freshest taste possible!"
  14. I guess my problem has always been that the person in front leans against me, and I don't lean against the person in back of me. This is because on one ride, my pilot chute got out. I'm always very nervous about that happening again. The result is I am very squished and uncomfortable on the ride to altitude, and sometimes I can't even free my arms. I just haven't figured out how to properly lean, guess.
  15. Not possible even if I had a 2nd sign in name or account. Which I do not. Now it might be possible for those of you who have a MPD. Which I do not. Care to take another shot?
  16. And your gender changes depending on who you sign on as...
  17. Absolutely! His belly is my favorite part of his body....soooo sexy.
  18. Wow! You're a lucky girl
  19. I couldn't disagree with this statemen more. in fact it's bordinline ludicrous.. How will tunnel time help a new sky diver over come fear, reiticnecy to breath? Not to mention you do not have your rig on your back, which you shouldn't. So the air stream your feeling isn't at all waht you'd be experiencieng through actual free fall. Do me a favor, humou an old man. Next time you exit, just watch the plane fly away on the prot side wing tip on the pilots side, then just fall into the slip stream. I must give Chris Miller SDSL, a wonderful and telented Dive Master Chris Miller At SDSL, "Do a prop exit, and watch the plane fly away and enjouy you canopy ride. When i did my grauduation Hop-N-Pop at SDSL, Chris had a tandem passenger, and could't be with me, best Hop-N-Pop I've ever had! Thanks Chris! Not him brin there, but knoening wss om my own and relying on my own skill taught to mr by my Excekkent sjyu=ive Thank you, you know who your re, These two professiomal sky master diving masters, I leaned andlearned wekk. Ok, apparantly you disagree with tunnel time helping the AFF progression, but beyond that it's a little difficult to tell what the heck you're trying to say. I, on the other hand, AGREE. I flew several hours in the tunnel prior to my first skydive. I breezed trhough AFF.....in fact, the fact that I knew the basics of handling the freefall portion was what kept me plugging away when my landings continued to be problematic. In the beginning, it's sensory overload being in the air. If you've already got the muscle memory to get you in a stable position, you've got a lot accomplished. It was very difficult for me to get how to accomplish a good arch....so I focused on that in the tunnel. I am SO thankful that I did so, as it was one less thing I had to worry about figuring out in the air.

  22. I've never watched "It's a Wonderful Life". I know the basic plot, and that Jimmy Stewart stars, but I've never actually watched it.
