Valid point, you obviously have more experience than me giving that I'm only a freshman in college. Haven't even taken any marketing classes. FallinWoman and you (even though you have different experiences in life) seem to have been effected the same way by the commercial. Interesting. It's ok to be a geek if you can make money doing it :) -So, how hard is the ground?!

They would have spent 15-20 trying to tell everyone what the product is. The commercials just tickle your imagination. Not only will people go to the website to figure out what the product is but another percentage of those people will spent minutes on the website, infinately cheaper than minutes on TV. -So how hard is the ground?!

I agree, buy 12 jump tickets and staple them in the shape of a heart on some red construction paper (or edible underwear). Damn, I'm good. -So how hard is the ground?!

The mlife commercials was marketing at it's best because of the following reason. It doesn't tell you what mlife is. I've seen commercials about it for weeks and don't know what the hell it is, only that they revealed it as being part of ATT Wireless. So it eggs you on, human nature (one of them is curiosity) makes a good percentage of the people go visit their website. It is much cheaper for them to have people visit their website than it is to spend 2million more to explain the product during the commercial. So, because I realize this, I'm debating whether or not I should actually visit their site. -So how hard is the ground?!

Thanks for all the posts guys, I didn't know before that there was so much more of a risk to skysurf. Now, why do you all think that the sport is declining in popularity so much and do you think it can recover. I'd like some more opinions on this as well. -So, how hard is the ground?!

thanks, my situation is that of being the cameraman for our team and so we are both going to be dedicating hundreds of jumps to become perfect. any skysurfers out there, i'd appreciate as much info as possible. -So, how hard is the ground?!

you don't have to jump by yourself if you have a cameraman. -So, how hard is the ground?!

Anybody know what is up with it? Is it going to fade away or do you think the number of compeditors will increase, and why? I would like to get into it but don't want to dedicate myself to it if there won't be anyone to compete against? Why do you think more people don't like it? -So how hard is the ground?!

If war was fought with popsicles, they might melt. This has been a deep thought by a skydiver. Lets here more.

Well, you have a point about the marketable skills, I wish I could just go right out and get that 50 grand a year job. Well, all I have is a EMT license and no one will hire right now because of my age and experience. I'm going to work full time at the DZ just until I make it through college. Most fire departments also don't hire until 21. Oh, well, guess i'll just jump and have fun in the meantime. -So how hard is the ground?!

fallinWoman has a point. Thanks for bringing it up. I don't know his name but maybe some of you guys may recall. He apparently has been on a bunch of day time shows like Good Morning America and stuff, because he is offering like $10,000 to the person who introduces him to his wife. Hey mnischalke, I guess that's how I could pay for my rig :) It's either that or get on to the game show The Chair. -So how hard is the ground?!

Do you walk to work or take your lunch?

No, it wasn't me who cut away but it's kind of a funny story. Our DZ was open for the second time in 2002 this past weekend and I was down there packing. I was actually able to get 5 jumps in among all that packing, a record for me in one weekend. Anyway, I had finished the last of the pack jobs and went outside to watch the load come down. When I looked up, I saw a white canopy. Just about then was when everybody else started to figure out there had been a cutaway. The white reserves are student gear and as instructors made sure the student got down fine, another packer and I went to track down the main. As I walked, I frantically went through my packs of the day trying to figure to think of anything I could have missed that might have caused the mal. All my wories were dashed however, when the DZ owner came to help untangle the main from a thorn bush. He said that the first AFF jump student had cutaway because the slider wasn't all the way up the lines. Yup you heard me right. Oh well, to say the least he was quite embarrassed, and I was quite relieved that it was not my fault. Any other funny cutaway stories? -So how hard is the ground?!

Ok everyone, here is my situation, any usefull suggestions would be much appreciated. I need my own gear, desperately. I would like to have it by March when I will start working full time at my dropzone. Now, I don't have a high paying job and so I can't save up very quickly for it, the whole thing will cost about $3000. I applied for a loan at my credit union the other day and got turned down because, not long enough at my job, not enough credit history, and not enough income. That hurt. I can't use my credit card because the limit is $1250 and I can only raise it every 6 months. What to do, what to do. I thought I would consult other poor people to see how to get a loan easier or another idea. Thanks.

Oops, I thought the movie was new, I guess it meant the DVD version when it showed 2001 on case. Anyhoo, it was the first time I saw it. -So how hard is the ground?!

Anyone seen the new skydiving movie "Cutaway" yet? I watched it the other night because I think it is fun to rent a horrible movie every once in a while just to laugh. It wasn't as bad as what I thought it might be. I little corny but what can you expect with Tom Berringer and Steven Baldwin. At least no one talked to each other in freefall. Brief summary is that Redline (Tom Berringer) is a leader of a 8-way speed team. They are trying to make it to nationals to beat ARMY. They don't have money so they smuggle drugs into US by jumping out of plane at night (I think I just found a new way to pay for jumps :). Steven Baldwin's character is a undercover cop who falls in love with the sport while trying to bust the smugglers. I give movie 4.5 on scale of 1-10. What do you all think?

"Just my opinion though, what do y'all think?" That statement was a cue for people to give intelligent answers. Oh well, maybe next time Skreamer.

"Maybe those "rich ass skydivers" work their asses off Monday to Friday, so they can then pay ingrates like you to pack for them so they can better enjoy their weekend." "quit yer bitching, if they've got the extra cash to pay someone to pack for them, let them...." Maybe you guys should read the post a little bit closer before you open your mouth. I said that I have not problem with those who want to pay for a pack job, infact I appreciate the extra business. I was bitching about those who don't pack because the never take the time to learn! But what do I know, I'm just an ingrate. -So how hard is the ground?!
-
Well then, I salute your effort and would like you to know that you were not included in my group of "rich ass skydivers". Once again, I would like to stress, I'm talking about those who pull their money out the wazoo and give packing zero effort. -So how hard is the ground?!
