oh my !!! ROFLMAO! that is hilarious those two stories were found and put on the same page. i wonder if the boston U girl has seen that? she looked a bit weird too... any cool skydiver chick knows that if youre posing for a pic its not with some puke colored sweater on, its in your jumpsuit and rig, with a tounge stickin out or lickin the persons nipples (thru the shirt!) next to you (grabbing boobies works too).... at least thats how we do it at cross keys..... hmmm, i wonder if were the only ones? ?.... should i take those pics out of my locker than? what will other skydivers think when they visit....? :) haha! kel, bored and grounded, nothin new :( "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

.. one more thing. for the majority of medical care patients who have not broken a bone, one rescuer can provide adequate care until further help arrives or until care is transfered to a hospital staff... with trauma patients one person can not stabilize, splint, and further treat a patient. thats why i can run 100 medical calls and treat by myself, but the second i have a semi serious MVA patient i have another EMT in the back assiting me both with patient care and intitial patient treatment... so that adds to the mix the need for even more EMS providers when the resources are already being stretched thin. One EMT can go a long way with 10 medical patients, 1 EMT isnt enough for one trauma patient, no matter how minor the injuries are. kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

jimbo, i gotta agree with you 100% on this one. When it comes to BASE jumping we dont just go and rush into it. To those of you who do BASE and those of you who have friends who BASE, think of what they go thru. Learning to pack a BASE rig doesnt just assure that youre comfortable with the pack job, the delicate and detailed care you provide when packing instills respect for what youre doing. We can trash pack a main in 5 minutes, but wouldnt dare do that to a BASE rig. also, what about the hours spent talking to experieced BASE jumpers? the careful selection of what the first BASE jump will be off of? of the appropriate gear? Of obstacles and hazards? How about the explanation of winds, even going so far as to teach a new BASE Jumper to take slivers of paper to throw to tell the direction at night? and finally, what about the fact that actual BASE jumpers have the option if they want to jump... the can and most times will climb down if conditions arent right. Imagine if you had an aircraft emergency at 1,300 on your AFF level 1 skydive. Never before jumped. never before pulled your own ripcord... now, at 1,300 youre being told to get the hell out. bail out on reserve, main whatever... youre level of conscious intelligence would be severely compromised. do you think that you would hear and listen to your instructors radio comands? wait, thats assuming your instructor made it to the ground safely and before you. THey didnt deploy lower, freefall longer, there wasnt much altitude for them to do spirals down... etc etc. you would be completely alone in that situation, even if the world was screaming directions to you. I dont think that the outcome would be pretty, and thats even assuming you actually landed back at the dropzone, an area pretty much cleared of obstacles. see, and AFF level 1 with an aircraft emergency/bailed out at 1,300 is in a shitty and life threatening situation. and they chose to get on that airplane in the first place. they were trained right before they boarded that plane.. thier tremendously better off than an office worker who bails out at 900, thru glass, without immediately prior experience, jumping into hazards, no real analasis of the landing area (winds, obstacles, turbulance)... please remember what fills our fatality listings in parachutist.. Landing fatalities. whether it be a hook turn initiated to low by an experienced jumper or a panicy student whos thinking 'downwind' spells disaster, a lot of fatalities happen cause people land hard. Being an EMS provider, I know what a hectic mass casualty scene can look like. I train for it. what I dont need in addition to that burning building is dozens of people, in the streets, carlots, on garage tops, on vehical roofs, everywhere dead or dying because they plunged to their death when they could have awaited help or gotten the hell out another way. in a mass casuality incident, you treat the majority of victims for similar injuries. if the building is on fire, its for burns, if the structure collapsed its for fractures and penetrations and lacerations and internal damage... throw in there burn victims, multiple fracture victims, sprains, twists, strains, trauma due to structure collapse (which isnt uncommon in serious fires), and the always present respiratory and medical victims (heart attack from the stress), youve just witnessed a major crack in the immediate medical care service being provided. And what about the firefighters going into a building burning for reports of 10 victims on the 17th floor... thier looking for these victims and even the best Incident command operator couldnt possibly account for those 8 people who parachuted out and are now laying there dead... the firefighters would be in there for no reason, the people they went to save would have already died, not from fire but from serious traumatic injuries. the firefighters are now searching fruitlessly for thier victims, and not about to give up... they will never find those victims inside that building. EMS personelle arent perfect, but we strive to do the best we can. we often handle more than we would ever expect ourselves to be able to (and the rescuers of 9/11 proved this to the world), but there are some things that are just too out of the element. things that cause even the most seasoned EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter to crack. In a mass casuality incident, making sense of a scene, striving to gain some sense of order is what improves the care provided. Its hard enough when you have dozens of victims, and the exact numbers are unknown... This is just my point of view. kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

nice on kev! wipe your face, put on you goggles and helmet and EXIT! EXIT! EXIT!!! just be careful... last time i fell asleep in a plane i ended up having the craziest skydive ever.. not enough seperation. helmet came off (and i caught it!!!) when i deployed and had line twists down to the container.... long spot.. yeah, i stay awake now. i know what happens when you catch a few zzz's on the way up.... :) kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

ok. seems like i was a little confused. im going that you have the red/white little pamphlet.. it wont record data under 7 seconds of FF time. but it can be used for a base jump... hmmm. makes me wonder...page 45 gives the base info. you can test jump it and see if setting it to the BASE settings found on page 46 solve your problem. but remember that you have other priorities first.. worry about if it recorded after youre safely back in the hanger.. or you could just call Larson & Brusgaard.. their customer service is legendary.. im sure you could pick their brains. all thier contact info is in the front of the book. if anything works out please post back and let me know so when i finally get back up in the air i can use it :) kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

read the manual that came with it. it explains that the protrack records after 7 seconds of FF.. but you can also change that. you have to read the manual though cause i cant remember how to do it. if you dont have your manual anymore post back and i will transcribe the directions to you from my manual. kelly freefrogfall@hotmail.com "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

the guys name is Roger Kibbe (sp?) and he kiled somebody out west. he used 'parachute rope' to tie his victims up. On april 25, 1988 he was arrested for the womans murder. Geeze, i knew that the old timers were crazy but come on... they even showed a pic of him doing a solo belly dive, geeking the camera. What a waste of parachute gear.... geeze, USPA, revoke his membership please!!! "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

hey all. i was right about the dumb nurse not fitting the wet cast properly on saturday.. couldnt take the pain anymore today so i bumped my appointment up with the specialist. turns out it was rubbing away my skin, i actually have a wound from it! stupid nurse. its majorly swollen, and im banned from active ambulance work for 4 weeks. i have a cast on up to my knee, that will be there for 2 weeks. after that its a air splint, then following that i will have to wear a brace. all in all my spirits are high cause know i know the extent of the damage and i can actually walk without the crutches!! whoo hee! no more wooden legs for me! i should be jumping again in about 2 months.. im actually debating about traveling (as planned) this winter and resuming jumping in the spring, when ill have time, weather, health and my own home dz all on working for me not plans to travel, winter, new dz's and a just recovering injury. I dont know yet, but ive got to think long term here and what would be safest. I dont want to make 10 jumps in december just to not jump everyday because i reinjure it or the weather is squirrley. i dont know. not sure what ill do! but im healing as we speak so all is good. kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

andrea, hey. i know this is old but I was in that same situation before. i rushed the exit. didnt like the fact that i could see somebody freefalling below me.. luckily i had announced a solo RW dive as my plan so i wasnt suddenly Belly flying instead of freeflying while others on the load thought i was FFing.. since i was still doing the same kind of dive i aborted my dive plan. instead i stayed on my belly and didnt do 360's or backloops or anything, and watched the other jumper most of the skydive. i flipped on my back to check seperation of the next jumper too. back to my belly. watched the other jumper. glad i made sure to keep an eye on him, he ended up dumping higher than he said he would and so i dumped higher too. if it happens again, keep an eye on the lower person.. make sure you start looking for them at the bottom end of the skydive, a few thousand feet above planned deployment. this will give you a few seconds to locate him again and see his desicions to deploy i.e: dumping early, line twists, maybe even flying the canopy towards where youll be in a few. i was able to watch him deploy, and as i was freefalling i made the descision that i would be passing closer than comfort allowed, cause he could always turn and start flying in my direction too. give good exit counts. watch for that 45 degree angle of seperation... if you still find yourself too close, dont give it a deep arch, instead make yourself slower, be alert and ready to react. just my .02 cents kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

oh my god! i am so bored im reading a lot of old threads and i found this one. people advising you to 'gather up the big mess in your arms', you guys arent packers are you? the best advice, and what i teach students after i loose 2 sport rig pack jobs trying to untagle THEIR mess is this: land safely. if need be run around the canopy to turn the cells away from the wind so they dont reinflate.. stow the breaks, dont worry if thier right or not, cause you should be checking them for twists when you get in the hanger anyway.. you just want them where they belong. if its a big canopy start making big loops with the lines. the bigger the loops, the less loops youll have and the smaller the lines in your hands will be (10 loops are more awkward then 6 loops to hold). walk towards the canopy as you do this, so you dont drag it. if need be pull the lines up as you do this, so that the slider lays against the canopy. now, youve got the lines all the way down to the caopy. grab the tail with your free hand, and place it in the hand with the lines. grab your bridal/bag and pilot chute with free hand.. stuff them in the helmet that you secured around your chest strap.. grab excess bridal and hold onto it. now, youve got one hand holding the lines/tail of the canopy. youre helmet is holding your 'excess' (bridal/bag/pilot chute) and youve got a free hand to switch sides when walking the canopy in, cause those big canopies can tire out your arm. dont forget to sling that canopy over one shoulder before you start walking. if its still dragging on the ground allow the arm that holding them to 'slack' off, so that instead of your hand being shoulder height its stomache level, with the canopy/lines being secured low enough that they dont go over your back and drag on the ground. if one student from xkeys reads this then im happy... I cant tell you how annoying it is to be packing a navigator 340, only getting paid $5 for it, and having to correct 3 step thru's, while trying to pull the canopy out from inbetween the lines, like when one side is going over the slider and coming out at the nose.. Packers loose money fixing stuff like that, and it doesnt make them happy. if youre packng for yourself, roll around in the canopy, flip your container, tie knots in it, do whatever you like, but if im your packer, do me a favor and be neat about it. i have other rigs to pack. and it only took about 300 student/large canopy pack jobs to get to the point where i lost all patience on this issue..... a very immobile and unable to jump/bored out of my mind, Kelly "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many

his is a common mis-perception - The side gusts many people experience at touchdown are pilot induced by unknowningly rising the opposite toggle and sometimes pulling the same side toggle down further to the leading foot. You wanna get out of this bad habit before you get onto faster and less unforgiving canopies. _________________________________________________________________________________ pay attention to what 3flier says!!!! this same mistake landed me in the hospital yesterday, counting my lucky stars that i didnt kill myself and that im only out for about 4-6 weeks.. the whole story is in the talkback forum but to sum it up: it could have been a lot worse. it looked horrible from the ground. i slammed into the earth on my left side and bounced. im lucky to be able to 'gimp' around right now. kel "i can not attest to what i did, just what i remember...." ~me, after one too many
