Once again..What book is on your nightstand?
matt1215 replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
Beginning Visual C++ 2005. Not my first choice, but I've been bringing work home this week. Current project is to write new software for a machine who's builder no longer exists. I'm reverse-engineering massive old code to figure out what the output needs to be. I had my software in a couple hours, but it currently sounds like Charlie Brown's parents to the machine. -
Second run gave me: "Taste the Matt1215"

Sweet, and thanks for the info!! I have business in DC Sept 25-30th. If I can break away long enough, I'll come out for some jumps.

Anyone know of DZ's near DC?

Ever throw away a traffic ticket you got in the mail?
matt1215 replied to skydiver30960's topic in The Bonfire
I rented a car @ LAX last year and got a bogus "running the 91-fast-track-toll-lanes without their special gizmo" ticket in the mail, timestamped 6 hours before I rented the car. I sent copies of the ticket and my rental receipt to the rental agency corporate office and the court, got a free rental voucher out of it. -
You stuff your rig in a gearbag, then put it under the seat, or just the rig itself?
-
I'd check it and watch it as it goes past TSA. Once past them and on the way to the plane, I'd be trusting a TSA-openable padlock (against pilferage), a hard case (against mishandling), and the foam that comes with it (against my rig moving around inside the case). I'd definitely prefer positive control over my gear, but I'd still have to stuff it in an overhead. At 6'3", I can't imagine stowing anything under the seat in front of me, I barely have room to put my feet there with my knees against the seat.
-
I also have a large rig. W-22 with a pair of 210's. I'm halfway tempted to invest in a Pelican case. My rig's probably too big for that particular case (Outside 22"L x 14"W x 9"D, Inside 20.2"L x 11.4"W x 7.5"D), but they also sell TSA-approved Peli-locks. I'd be inclined to pack my gear in a Pelican with Peli-lock and check it.

Kim Dear's Birthday Tandem student from Quantum Leap
matt1215 replied to joewantaharley's topic in The Bonfire
Happy Birthday Kim!! Get well soon so you can do your aff and we can fun-jump with you. -
I did a tandem for my first ever jump. Got sick under canopy and managed not to barf on Dean. I had a lot more fun jumping with him as an AFFI. DZ policy is to have a tandem under one's belt prior to enrolling in AFF, otherwise I wouldn't've.

I'd have to say it's my folks. 5+ years ago it was more my mom, now more so my dad. I'm as close to her as I've ever been, but I talk to my dad a lot more than I used to about a lot more stuff. I think it was something about moving out of his house. I can talk to either of them about anything. They've always been there and have a very unique perspective.

0:1:1 My new Wings came yesterday, took it up to Titusville and made an 18k solo. My last jump on rental gear.
-
Yeah, very sweet indeed. And yes, very nice of the FedEx man, but no kiss. I missed him Friday by about 20 min and had to wait another day, but now I have my new baby.
-
I made that assumption with the ship date and played smartass with your repack date. The last couple weeks waiting have really sucked, especially when gear already takes a l-o-n-g time to make. I have it and am very pleased with it thus far. You will be too.
-
Yeah, I suppose a jump rig is a little more dangerous than an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.
-
Sorry to bust your bubble there. Looks like you'll have to get repacked anyway if you're due Tuesday and not seeing the rig for another four six weeks.
-
Yes, GMTA!! They ran about 2 weeks late on mine, so might be more like 6 weeks. The wait's torture. Took it to the rigger today, hopefully I'll able to jump it next weekend.
-
I'm not a big fan of bleu, American, or Swiss. Other than those, anything in any combination's quite tasty.
-
Thanks!! Been waiting 12 weeks and I want to jump it NOW. Unfortunately jumping it without canopies would be a very bad idea, and I don't think I'll have much luck getting it put together this weekend.

Lookie what the FedEx man brought me this fine morning!!
