Our perceptions about getting paid for what we love to do change once you have reached that dream. Then you look to put the fun "Back" into the sport you love sooooooooo much. Our DZ is an odd mix of the noted characters. Those who film and do Tandems are quite exceptional people. They do what is needed at the time that it is needed. That is what makes a club a club.Professional DZ'S don't have that same feel.

Ask yourself this Question? If you know that 50% of marriages end in divorce would you still get married?Skydiving is like most high risk sports. You manage the risks! If you know where you need to get out of the plane(get out there).Freefall, then start the opening sequence. It will either open or not?If not, follow "Exactly" your training for that malfunction.Open your reserve. Not that complicated.

Everyone be Safe this weekend!
Designer replied to Designer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First real nice spring weekend on the east coast.Have fun, laugh with jump friends.Try not to party too much!(LOL)Most of all, lets not do "anything" stupid.Off to STP to get the Cessna 182 ready for Friday jumping.Yahoo! -
Well said indeed.I still come upon situations with my Jedei Sweptwing 95-97 that surprise me.Have a very healthy respect for this parachute.Only 45 jumps on it and feel like it will be 145 jumps on it until I truly have a great feel all conditions.Brian, will give nothing but the straight poop and what to do and not to do.There is nothing more disturbing than any of the Jedei Test Pilots hurting themselves under a perfectly GOOD flying parachute.Don't let it happen to you!

Season starting, some canopy flight things to consider
Designer replied to jdfreefly's topic in Safety and Training
Good Post.I jumped this winter and spring very carefully.Still have yet to do a swoop landing because the conditions for it have not been there yet!I don't hook turn either! So,something else to remember.TY -
After more than 26 yrs involved with the sport my addiction has changed.Mostly try to stay current.Make double the jumps I made last yr.

I've tried for several years to get skydivers to "Not" go beyond their limits. Most think there are "None".Recently,I have decided those who listen will survive, those who don't will not! Also,I'm approaching my fifties and think it's time to get a bigger parachute? Most Skydivers do not think this way.Have been there and done that, time to think more about personal safety than going fast.Way back when I(we) pushed alot of limits in our sport and got away with it.Was it good "Judgment"?No,the time for better judgment as at hand.Think!

We have a posted list of "Firsts".Basically,if you don't buy your beer you will be an outcast!Enough Said!

Should I sue/ What do you think?
Designer replied to dubbayab's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Humm,we just do not take as good care of our equipment as we should. The term you pays your money and takes your chances comes up here. When stuff goes wrong we try to blame somebody, anybody!Your wife is very lucky to be alive!Suing is never the answer. -
Good 1.How do you rush "Perfection"!You Don't.Brian,I know from yrs ago than you have been thinking, working on this project. Some of the baby steps just take a long time. That's just the nature of R&D.Keep plugging away and the final solution will become aware to you!We will be waiting.

I have the utmost respect for scott Miller! What he does is fill in the gaps, which are many.Right now I'm trying to gather some basic info to let some the students(relative newbies)read about square parachutes in general. How they are designed, fly and most important how they are supposed to be landed.

What should packers take upon themselves?
Designer replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good Point! From now on I will ask/tell the customer about the closing loop.If I break 1,I just replace it at the same length.Changing something without telling should be a"Common Sense" no,no. -
Just happened to watch my rigger to the "Reserve Pin Test".He even let me read the bulliten
-
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
-
Interesting post! That's why the riggers get the big bucks.

Good post

#6989 says way to go!

We used to learn to pack right away after we began to understand how cool this sport really was.Was 3 or 4 jumps when I solo packed my first round parachute! Then came the squares!OH MAN,How do we pack these freaky things. You mostly learn by doing at first.I watch student after student struggle with packing! The "What If" question they can't seem to get out of their heads.Break it down in steps. As of today the"Rabbit Quick Method" takes no less than 35 steps. The first time I tried to write it all down,it came to 7 pages long(ways too long!)I welcome the new students to take the time(as long as you need and feel comfortable with your pack)to learn to do this?It gets better the more you know.

Do you still call the DZ where you learned home?
Designer replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
STP will always hold a special place in my heart!40+ yrs of being/holding a skydiving club together in the good, bad or whatever says alot about our past, present and hopefully future members. -
I do not pack Tandems or Reserves!Have packed student gear under private contract with customer.Packing Tandems is just not worth the "Hassle" factor.I don\'t care how much you pay me,If you btich me out the first time there is a malfunction,(Tandems)You can pack for yourself!

Director of Safety and Training Takes Canopy Course!
Designer replied to Designer's topic in Safety and Training
Surprise,Surprise,Surprise! What is the world coming to?When USPA listens to us and responds positively, only good results can come from it.Stay turned to the future of canopy control instruction. -
Depends on your definition of a "Novice".There are just certain things an "A License " skydiver should know about his/her parachute! If you ask these new jumpers questions about how/what they know,90% would tell you they didn't know they were supposed to learn how to do that(riser turns, brake turns, etc.)These are the ones we worry about. The 10% who know how,why the parachute they currently fly does what it does,I have no problems with them going slow and taking the time(many jumps) to step down from a 190 to a 170,170 to 150?See my point?
-
Very Nice!I totally agree!Hope to get my book soon also?It is very hard to explain to an up and coming jumper that you "Should" really learn to go after this sport 89.96%!What about the rest you say?The rest is "What If's" and "Nobody is that good that they can't make a mistake".Brian puts in a more complex way for me.This way keeps me from "Going Beyond My Limits"TY.

Press Release: The New Lotus MAX is done!
Designer replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Gear and Rigging
Way to go!Brian,I have some serious questions for you!As you know I am approaching my 48th Birthday in May.I have been giving "Very Serious" thought of retiring the first "Jedei Sweptwing" 95-97!.I think it's time to sell it and up size!I certainly "Do Not" think I should be jumping this little rocket ship in my 50's Any thoughts?
