Global-warming alarmists intimidate dissenting scientists into silence.
Zipp0 replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Despite any evidence one way or the other on global warming, can anyone argue that pollution of the environment with toxic chemicals is a good thing? Who cares if it is causing global warming or not - it is not a good thing either way. What this really comes down to is a desire to put corporate profits ahead of all else. Could there be any other logical explanation for relaxing laws to make it easier for corporations to pollute the water and air? No. As a former hardline conservative, and a fisherman and sometimes hunter (not as often as I once was) I can't understand why more conservatives are not conservationists, if not outright environmentalists. If you want to be able to hunt and fish in the future, you better get on the right side of this issue. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -
I hate to burst your bubble, but G.W. is NOT a conservative. And to those who use the terms 'Libs' and 'Cons', how about a little debate instead of pointless name calling? Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Iran can't have them because that country is run by a bunch of nutso fundamentalist religious extremists. Oh....wait..... Never mind Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

I think the war in Iraq was a huge mistake, and as a veteran of the first war against Iraq, I feel just fine about opposing this one. That being said, if I was on the ground there now as a soldier, I would shoot anything that moved in my direction, and feel very little remorse. The men on the ground shouldn't have to put themselves at greater risk because of the poor decisions of our chickenhawk leaders. Well, that's probably what people thought until the recording industry started suing a shitload of college kids for downloading music from public websites onto their home computers First off, I AM NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a lawyer. Having said that, maybe you could ask the tanedm passenger to bring a CD of their favorite music along. Putting that music on their video for private use seems at least legally murky, instead of outright illegal. The other way is to add no music, and just let the customer add their own. The thing is, the music lawyers would have to demonstrate a financial loss, and you would be responsible only for the loss amount. So...maybe $20? Is that worth their time/money with things like Gnuetella out there? I doubt it. They have bigger fish to fry. Technically you need synchronization rights. Look here: http://www.bmi.com/licensing/ Realistically, your chance of encountering liability for a tandem video is pretty small. But if you're paranoid.... Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

My advice is to work at thickening your skin a bit. His response sounds like someone who had a dog piss on his gear, and is sick of people whining about a policy. I love dogs, but his policy, and to a lesser extent his attitude, are understandable. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -

You paid PayPal back? They would have had to get a court order to get ME to pay them back. It was their system that got hacked, so it should have been THEIR problem to track down the criminal. They have the money/resources to absorb a loss of $1000 and track down the criminal, I don't. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Jesus. Doing my FJC Saturday and I'm beginning to fear the beer tab will exceed the cost of the class and jump tickets! Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

What is the likely cause of an incident like this? I am doing my FJC this weekend, and to a newbie this looks like probable carelessness on the part of the 'camera jumper'. I could understand small errors caused by stability issues or similar, but going head down into a group of 5 seems just like utter disregard for safety. Did the person who collided into you offer an explanation? I'm sorry this happened to you. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Skydive Safe? Help me change Peeps minds
Zipp0 replied to liveitupa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Another way to look at it is that your hands and feet in climbing are your main, and the gear and rope are your reserve. I do get your point though. I would say that rappelling is a slightly better metaphor. When you lean back over the edge you are completely and totally reliant on your gear and your ability to use it correctly. If the gear fails on rappel, you die. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -
Skydive Safe? Help me change Peeps minds
Zipp0 replied to liveitupa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It can be safe relative to something that is extremely hazardous. Coming into this sport from a rock climbing background, it seems like there are many parallels. When climbing, I did everything within my control to stay safe, which vastly increased my odds of survival. Was I safe because of this? No, but I was as safe as I could be considering what I was doing. A few times I was narrowly missed by microwave oven sized rocks falling from above, which I had no way of controlling. Other climbers were sometimes to blame for pulling these rocks off from above, which I also could not control. Also, I saw people hurt and killed in the mountains, which is sobering, to say the least. I pushed myself a bit at times, but always tried to stay within my abilities, or at least in a place where an error would not get me or someone else killed. Knowing how much to push is also key in staying safe, or at least safer. Often, friends would ask me why 'stupid climbers' continue up Mt. Everest just after the death of a fellow climber. I ask them why they don't call off an NFL football game after a player is carried off the field on a stretcher. That actually seemed to work pretty well. Safe? No. Nothing truly is. Acceptable risk? Maybe. How much does it mean to you? Good Luck Scott -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -
Is it "funny" to push somebody out of the door?
Zipp0 replied to The111's topic in Safety and Training
You know what is HILARIOUS? Taking an exacto knife to his container. That shit will make you die laughing! (pun intended?) HAHAHAHAH! Seriously though, I probably would have at least kicked him in the nuts for pushing. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -
I think you mean "equalize". In other words, pinch your nostrils and blow until your ears pop. If you can do that without pain, you should be OK. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

LOL. Yep, my scuba instructor did that to me once.... ONCE. ;) -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -
Good point. For me, even when a bit stuffy I can still equalize with no problem. Also a good idea to read the FAA med books. Sudafed does make me drowsy, so that is out for sure..... -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Chad, Congrats. My first jump (SL) will be next month. Also, I'm glad to hear your stuffy nose was not an issue. My guess is, everyone reacts differently to the changes in atmospheric pressure experienced while skydiving. We probably never hear about the folks who had no issues - just the ones with bloddy noses and busted ear drums. Cheers! Well, back in my military days I had a flight physical and was deemed 'aeronautically adapted', and I had some hay fever issues at the time. I have changed very little physically since then. Probably the only way to know for sure is to give it a shot. Or I'll get allergy shots this year for the first time in my life. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Well, I am taking a break from rock climbing to give sky diving a try, so there is an opening for you there. In rock climbing I spent all of my time doing everything in my power NOT to fall. Trying a sport where falling is the point seems like the (il)logical thing to do. See what it feels like to earn your altitude. Scott -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Should I be concerned as someone coming into the sport who suffers from hay fever? I used to scuba dive, and I have no problem equalizing even when congested. Claritin D helps a whole lot when pollen is high. Zipp0 -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.
