Empirically speaking - the soldier you speak of is either: A. A complete shitbag. AND/OR B. Did something very very bad unrelated to work.     What the market hasn't figured out yet is that the inflation of house prices to - I think the national average was 40+% - has to correct. It will eventually. The other economic forces in place are adjusting accordingly. When the lenders concede that they fucked up, and finish writing off their Billion dollar looses, housing prices will come back down from mars.     Thanks for the post, and you are correct about the Taliban in particular and militant Islam in general. Not to minimize the contribution of Canada and Great Britain (I've worked with both - and appreciate them more than you know), but we're used to going it alone. This "coalition of the willing" crap is just window dressing. NATO is a Cold War dinosaur, and the UN is a worthless pit into which we throw obscene sums of American tax dollars. We'll manage without either - I don't think Afghanistan will devolve if the Canucks leave. I think Canada can leave Afghanistan for now with their heads high. They did their part - and America is grateful. World events may very well call them back though.     I disagree. Public servants are held to a higher standard of behavior...and they know that going in. I was a cop, and saw (and admittedly was involved in) a lot of bad behavior involving a little thing we call SAM - Sex, Alcohol, and Money - the three things that kill cops. I was only ever involved in the first two, but nonetheless... I knew that if I ever stepped on my crank I would be punished more severely than just any Joe Shmo off the street for the same things. He should get fried...for being a dumbass. Consentual or not...he knew what the appearance would be, and did it anyway. He got caught. He is a dumbass. Screw him. Now...On the flip side of that.
