  1. I know how you feel, I'm jumping at Carolina Skydiving right now and love the atmosphere, they're right along with me. The only way I can describe this DZ is a bunch of Deer hunting, beer drinking rednecks jumping out of airplanes, but it's such a great group of people..I love it.
  2. About how far of a drive is it from Naples to Z-Hills, I like the small atmosphere of the DZ I'm at now, Adrenaline Airsports here in Jonesville, NC, but it seems like I'd have more potential in a larger DZ. I grew up hanging out at Emerald Coast in Elberta, known for its Beach Boogies and the Flora-Bama, that seemed like the perfect DZ, small atmosphere with a Turbine and a huge landing area, what more could you ask for, unfortunately I just wasn't old enough to jump at the time.
  3. Thanks for the great info, however, I've already tried that and I found one nearby from what I know about Naples and its general area which is Skydive Southwest Florida, just wondering if there may be any others that aren't far out of reach.
  4. Hi, I may be moving to Naples, FL soon and wanted to know if there are any DZ's nearby that I could jump. I'm new to skydiving, but now that I'm in the sport, I can't make move unless there is a DZ nearby, it's just not possible. Any info would be great. Thanks
  5. Harness/Container: Infinity D.O.M. is Jan 2001, SN 6532, Size I-45. The guy who had it was about 5'7" and it was snug on him. The main: Hornet 190 D.O.M. is April 2001. It has 140 jumps on it and is in very good condition. Reserve: PD 176r D.O.M. is June 2001 SN 025222 To my knowledge it has no jumps on it. Cypres: D.O.M. is July 2002 SN 5051C665DCA2240 So it's coming up to its 4-year check soon and has 8 years left on it. This is the info on the rig I was asking about. I know the cypres is going for 700.00, which I guess would be an ok price considering it still has 8 years, but is the rest of the rig worth $2000.00? considering I can buy a brand new Infinity for $1350.00? Any advice? I also know that Hornets are fairly cheap priced canopies, but I have heard nothing but good things about them
  6. A few years ago when I did AFF at Skydance in Nor Cal, the DZO would not only make the student pay for the repack, but also make them pay for the handles. Be safe Ed I just completed my 10th jump/AFP level 5, on my level 4 I had my first cutaway due to a spinning line twist. I had to pay for the reserve repack and the cost to get the main out of a tree so all in all it was 100.00 and would have had to pay for any damages or possibly replacing the main. As you can see I'm on student status, however I did pack the parachute I jumped. Later investigation revealed that a steering toggle came unstowed on opening. I wasn't mad or upset about paying, felt as though it was my fault for the malfunction although it was packed correctly. Does anyone believe that I shouldn't have had to pay for the repack?
  7. I cutaway jump #9 I've got 10 jumps so far...spinning line twist
  8. I guess if I was a 356lb student, I'd be jumping a tandem right? damn, have to get my tandem rating before I could begin student status, how would that work out?
  9. You're exactly right, it probably was a math error, and an easy error to make, however the error probably would never have been made if he wasn't trying to find some way to look or sound smart on this post. He saw an opportunity and went for it.
  10. Lol..it's ok, some people never picked up math skills. Are you sure you're a DZO? How long have you been in business? Ever wonder why you're losing money instead of making it? Did you wonder how a person weighing 356 lbs was capable of jumping a PD 260 with only a 0.73:1 wing loading or did you not read my whole profile? Thanks for trying to rag on me, it was a good attempt, but not successful
  11. I hope not, I weigh about 175,with gear I'd say around 195, thats just a little over a 1.0.
  12. I'm waiting on dates of manufacture, wont get them till this weekend sometime. I was just wondering generally speaking what an average cost would probably run as I know the hornet is no longer being made, not sure exactly how long ago they stopped manufacturing but I'm sure it's gotta be fairly used unless someone just didn't ever jump it, but I'll definately post more info as I receive it.
  13. Hi, just curious to see what everyone thinks. I'm looking for some used gear for sale and had a guy offer me an Infinity container with a hornet 190 main and a PD 176 reserve, cypres included and rsl. I know the equipment is used and they're asking 2700 for the complete rig, 2000 for the rig w/o the cypres, therefore, I know the cypres is going for 700.00. Also, I know I can get a new Infinity from VSE for 1350 so a used one should probably be less than 1000. Basically, how much do you think a used hornet should be worth considering I've seen some threads about new hornets at one time costing as little as $500.00 USD. Please give me some input. Blue Skies
  14. So far they have been saying somewhere between a 190 and a 210 but I was just wanting to see what some other experienced jumpers had to say. So far, I have made 4 jumps on the 260, 1 of which was a stand-up landing, the other 3 were very soft just couldn't get my foot placement correct. The reserve I'm unsure of the size, but considering it was a 7 cell it was quite a bit faster and it was an off field landing so I just did a PLF to be safe.
  15. I definately understand nobody ever died of boredom, I hope you understand what I meant by a boring canopy ride...I had been jumping the 260, then had to jump the 288 on my last jump, it felt as though it wasn't responsive at all. The reserve ride wasn't boring that was actually very exciting and helped me lose a lot of nervousness if thats what you thought I was implying to. Thanks for the input though. I'm definately getting used gear to start with. Just curious if a 1.0:1 wing loading would be something good to begin with.
  16. Hi, I'm fairly new to jumping, I've been around skydiving since I was about 13, a great friend (Rick Payne) from Emerald Coast got me interested in it. Currently I have 10 jumps...4 tandems and I'm on AFP level 6 now. I'm going to be getting my own gear soon and would like some advice as to what my first canopy should be. I'm 5'6 and about 175 lbs. The canopy I've been jumping on student status is a PD 260 F111 and I handle it really well. My last jump was on a 288 b/c I was waiting for the 260 rig to get put back together from my previous jump (spinning line twist cutaway) -brake line came unstowed. Anyway, that was by far the most boring canopy ride I have ever experienced, I even had to choke up on the steering lines to get any control out of a flare or turn. I have been considering a PD 190 or Sabre or Sabre 2 190, would this be a good idea or should I go a little larger? And do you have any other good suggestions for a good first canopy/rig as I am on a limited budget and need something safe and reliable yet cheap.
  17. I wonder how many AADs are in service worldwide? That would give you a pretty good idea of reliability. Zipp0 They're USPA required on all student and tandem rigs, this should give you some idea of how reliable they are. If you consider how many tandem and student jumps are done yearly worldwide. I haven't heard of any tandem cypres or student cypres misfires reported, has anyone else?
  18. I hate windy day on student status, all I could do today was watch and catch tandems..the winds were a steady 8 or so with gusts up to 15 so they wouldn't let me jump. How dangerous can windy days really be? Any answers would be great. Thanks
  19. Relax...That's what everyone keeps telling me. Does it really work? Because I'm always soo excited until I land..then it takes a while to calm down after. By the way..is anyone familiar with Rick Payne...great friend of mine, got me into the sport about 6 years ago. Of course I was too young to jump at the time.
  20. that level is L/R 360's and forward movement...I'm sure i can manage that without trying if it's anything like my first release dive was..
  21. I think I can relax a little better...last jump I had my first cutaway..spinning line twist due to a steering toggle coming unstowed on opening...it was such a rush...I had a reserve above my head before I could get to the reserve handle...RSL's are awesome
  22. Hi, I just completed AFP level 4 and will do my level 5 first thing tomorrow morning, as long as my check is deposited...gotta love direct deposit....any pointers?
