Yup, we are pretty much doomed (only half kidding). So we might as well enjoy our lives now as much as we can. I agree with rgropper though...we are talking about HUMAN lives here. Turning a country into a "glass parking lot" will be killing MILLIONS of people: mostly non-combatants. There does seem to be a small penis complex going around these days. Lots of puffing of the chest and hoo-hah bull shit. ALL human lives are precious, even if they are from a differnt country and have different color skin. BASE 853

how do you know it is a radio antenna? how do you know it is near a city? how do you know what part of the state it is in? There is more than one antenna in this state, belive it or not. BASE 853

exit point is about 1000'. Although, we have taken one of those Sunto altimeter watchs up a couple of times and each time we get a higher altitude. The antenna seems to be growing Oh yeah, about the Brrrr thing, that was actually a warm jump ~35...but we've flicked in sub-zero temps...not so bad when you are moving, but if you stop to rest, yuck. Okay, I am a whore, sorry. Go look at the sweet video in the BASE fourm uner the topic Minnesota BASE. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=320667;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread BASE 853

Minnesota BASE is kewl

Just out of curiosity...why are people so oposed to this. And please don't say it is unnatural...so is jumping from high places so let's hear some other arguments... BASE 853

Funny you should ask this. I have had bounce dreams about myself and buddies...one came true. I had a dream about a buddy of mine having a line over on a BASE jump. Last monday night he did . The weird part is in the dream he just gets up after pounding into the ground. Last monday when I got to him (it took me a couple of seconds as I kept triping on my bridle) he was just standing there looking at the canopy. He was totally fine, just a little sore. BASE 853

How to determine fall delay. Exit object. Wait until you are absolutely positive that you are going to bounce, then count to three, then pull. BASE 853

Wow, that sure is a lot of stuff people are talking about carrying. I don't like to carry that much stuff since I have to climb most of the objects I jump. Every extra thing you carry is extra weight and more importantly extra bulk that inhibits movemnt. Glow sticks are fun (I'll admit I have worn them to ammuse the ground crew) but not essential. GPS is cool, but if you are doing a building or an antenna or a span...who cares. I think you already know where you are. Range finders are cool, but didn't you already scope the site when you were doing your research, so shouldn't you know how high you are? Flashlights are nice for the ground crew to have for the landing area but I hope you already know the landing area well enough to not need one. Why do you need a flash light on the object? Radios are good, but not essential...I bring them only if I have a ground crew or if I am jumping with someone else and we may have to run/scatter...MIGHT be usefull. The rug is a good idea...but unless you have a ground crew you have to go back to get the rug after you have jumped. IMHO the best BASE jumps are the simple ones. What you might want to consider carrying is water. You might get thirsty. Bring gloves to protect your hands durning the climb/ going to the exit point. Wear enough clothing to stay warm (never know how long you will be waiting at the exit point). Other than that (and your rig) I don't think you NEED anything else. What do other people think? If you are gonna "burn" a site you might as well go all out. I think if any of our sites get burned we should set fire to them, since, really, if you can't jump it then it becomes totally useless. And remember, fire is cool! BASE 853

Or you can be simple and just spit over the edge and watch how it falls. This is really good if you are kinda tired from the climb (assuming A here) and you kinda have that thick sliva. Even better if you can get it to kinda "string" out of your mouth, almost like a wind sock. Cigerettes work nice too cause you can see the glow as they get blown away. BASE 853

This is a real saftey concern...NOT a personal attack. I have one question...does your DZO or your S&TA BASE jump. If they do (and I don't mean once and a while or a few bridge day jumps...I mean really BASE jump on a regular basis), then yeah listen to them. If they do not...then don't listen to them regarding BASE. Check out the BASE fatality list of people who figured skydiving gear was good enough, or who figured they were good skydiver so therefore they were BASE experts. Listen to AS MANY opinions you can get regarding BASE (from people who BASE jump on a regular basis...like Tom). You probably will find MANY diferent opinions. PS...I just got back from a sweet A like an hour and a half ago and I still have the smile on my face. BASE 853

Hey. Just wondering what the most people do for gear. I am the second owner of my Stiletto (got it with 55 jumps on it :) ) and this is currently the newest skydiving gear I have owned. I used to jump a Saber where I was the third owner (first owner is dead :O ) and I got it with like 600 jumps on it (still flew great). Since I sold it it has gone through two more owners, and the other day I helped the 5th owner pack it. Kinda neat helping someone learn to pack on the canopy that I learned to pack ZP on. I got my Fox Vtec brand new so that was the first (I know, I know) canopy I had ever jumped with 0 jumps on it, before that I was using a Raven that had been owned by a couple of people and a cat (it smelled funny). Can anyone say camel toe? BASE 853

The longest delay I have taken with my Fox Vtec is 7 seconds or so. I can tell you after 7 seconds the opening is "crisper" then say a mojo. But it does not hurt. Personally I like the crispness on longer delays. The biggest thing about it is that is ready to fly almost as soon as it opens. Which is cool because if you have an off heading you can get your self out of trouble a lot quicker then if you had a none vented canopy, especailly on short delays. You also have a landable canopy quicker. It also recovers from a stall really quickly and can really sink into a landing area. I love this thing. BASE 853

Vented canopies are the poop. I own a Fox Vtec and I love it. It is truely amazing how the things is reasy to go as soon as it opens. I have jumped unvented canopies and there seems to a mush right after opening...not so with vents. Even on short delay jumps she feels ready to fly quickly. I would highly recomend vented canopies to anyone....definatly worth the extra expense. BASE 853

the best part of that pic is they are dinking my favorite....beer brand beer. BASE 853

after 80 min of warming up for those seven seconds, lets see you last more than 7 seconds BASE 853 -

why yes, yes there are...why do you think it takes us 40 min to clim (actually my best up that particular antenna was 46) BASE 853 -
Why BASE jumpers are better lovers then average skydivers
flyinryan replied to flyinryan's topic in The Bonfire
1) We take our time and do it right...who else packs for 40 min, the climbs for 40 min, just for seven seconds of free fall? 2) Smart/experimental...we like to learn how the equipment works and try new stuff with it. 3) Dexterity...watch a BASE jumper finger his canopy and tell me that dosn't translate to the bed room. 4) On a long enough time line our odds of viability drop off...meaning by the time you get sick of us we may bounce...meaning no uncomfortable break ups. Lets add to the list BASE 853 -
Jeeze Chuck, isn't a 95 kinda big ;) Don't you fly like a 65 or some rediculus size like that. Okay, so with these more tapered cross braced wings will we see thighter recovery arcs, or is the recovery arc more a function of trim? And since someone brought up the Onxy...right now it seems like the cobalt can be loaded higher than any other non cross braced canopy...is this pattern gonna hold for the Onyx? Is this canopy gonna be able to take a bigger load than say a VX or a Xaos 27? BTW, these questions are purly academic at this point as I am very happy on my 170 and will probably not be going to a 150 for several hundred jumps. Just the engineer in me trying to figure out how stuff works. BASE 853
-
It seems like cross braced canopies are not as eliptical as say a Stiletto, but rather they depend on rigidity and trim to get their preformance. So why don't we se a canopy taking advantage of a high degree of taper, AND cross bracing. Basicly, why don't we see the cross braced Stilettos? Which brings me to another question. Is the short recovery arc of the Stiletto more a function of the line trim or the shape of the wing? Okay, enough questions for now. BASE 853

I think some people have mis-understood the question. At my small DZ people stay after the sun has set and drink with eachother. Some people seem to do more drinking/partying than actuall jumping, while others jump all day and have fun but leave when the beer light comes on....this is where the question comes from.
