Once upon a time, at a nerdy flight sim convention, I got a text message. I wasn't expecting messages because..well...i'm a frickin nerd. So I read it and discovered to my horror that my fly had been open since I left the Arby's. Then I remembered that I had walked past McDonalds and that's why people were starring. So I put it away, hoping that no one at at either place had noticed. No supersizing for me today. Suddenly, smoke filled the room. became alive with frantic activity... and out of nowhere I screamed like a little girl Sweet Gravity...

Oh yeah! We also just started getting local bars, buisnesses... to 'sponsor' us (read, give us free money, just offer to put their logo on the back of your club shirt or whatever...) One of them buys a few tandems a year and raffles them off every now and then. We even had hand-stampers made up so when all the students woke up all hung over the next morning, they had our clubs website written on them. Sweet Gravity...

True, static line or IAD is a big plus for college jumpers. The weekly parties help alot (we've got a good number of 'groupies' who just show up for the parties), Things start picking up as you get more licensed jumpers. Offer rides to the dz, we started giving out tickets to everybody that shows at the weekly meetings (good place to show boogie videos) and then drawing for a free student jump every now and then. Print up t-shirts and stickers (stay visible on campus, fundraisers and handing out flyers is a good way to involve all those who've always wanted to do it but can't afford it this weekend) Organize and advertise club trips to boogies, wind tunnel, whatever... bbq's, camping trips... I think the key is getting new people into the social side of skydiving, so if they can't afford to jump, they're still around jumpers and talking/thinking about the sport. Sweet Gravity...

Don't know about any registration fee but this is what I got from the dz manager: "We wiil be having a boogie and a training camp from the 11th to the 17th of March. I can get you accommodation next to the DZ at the Barracuda hotel for AED 80 per night. The jumps will be AED 100 from 14 000' from an AN12 and AED 80 to 12 000" from a Caravan or King Air." Last I checked (5 min ago) US Dollars are trading for 3.67 AED's... and the temps are in the upper 80's! So whats the story, anybody going? Sweet Gravity...

I like stern, but that shit gets old after awhile so I dont listen. I like looking at Hustler, but that shit (awesome how I'm allowed to use that word, isn't it?) gets old after awhile, so I stopped reading it. Free will, ain't it a bitch? The reason we keep getting the 'lowest common denominators' of our society (in some peoples opinion, not mine) defending OUR constitution is because most of the rest of society is too concerned with seeing someone or something they don't like removed from the popular conciousness. If you take a look at the larger picture you'll see that your freedoms are also limited by actions such as these. I also say again, the government didn't shut stern down, clear channel made a decision to do so. Was that decision based on constitutional principles? (doubt it) Profit? (maybe) Some individuals religious beliefs...? Sweet Gravity...

And the worst part about this is that its not the government doing it, directly anyway. Pre-emptive self-censorship... This is why it sucks that powell jr decided to let the media conglomorates own a larger percentage of the market a last year. What happens when clear channel owns all of the radio stations... Sweet Gravity...

I gotta say three things on this: 1- In no way do I believe the federal government should share exactly what they do and do not know (or how they found it out) with the general public, this is a stupid thing to do (no offense). The president was elected to do a job, let him do it. 2- Kinda funny how Libya decided to give up their WMD programs the same day we started bombing Baghdad. And because they did (because we invaded Iraq) we know alot more about the international trade in nuclear technology. 3- And now North Korea is (seemingly... knock on wood) ready to entertain the idea of dismantling their nuclear weapons programs. So yeah, I guess I'd have to stand solidly behind GWB on this one, him and Rumsfeld are doing A-OK internationally, at least they've got some sack. Domestically I must admit that I dislike the way he's trying to put the tenets of his religion into my constitution but... thats what the other two branches of the US gov are there for. First time I read about this was 5 or 6 months ago. Last I heard this was started by couple (1 or 2) democratic congressmen who were in opposition to the war. The whole point of the bill was to include those children of the upper crust in the draft to make a point to our leaders. Where its gone since then I don't know. In answer to the original question, (even though I've already served) I'm 28 and in the process of learning Arabic so I might be able to better serve my country should she require my services again...
