Tom, {Good thread...sorry if this is slightly off topic} Is there an online guide to suggested BASE specific canopy drill jumps? I'm thinking of taking an FJC in Twin Falls in the fall and would like to do all the canopy prep I can. I fly a big 7 cell (Tri220). Thanks. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

Phantom Flyers...are you able to regrab your grippers in flight if you let go of them? I'm trying to decide between an Acro or Pharco for my second suit. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

What is weird is I wear a Protrack and ProDyter on my helmet...both set to 5K (Break...or go vertical in my WingSuit) and 4K (wave off and pull) and 2K (hard deck). My Protrack almost never goes off under canopy, but the Dyter goes off almost all the time....I don't get it. I'm slowly going deaf in that ear though...according to the manuals, they both have the same settign...I don't get it. Maybe I'll start wearing ear plugs. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

Yes, Sorry 111, I meant to reply to the original poster. I was trying to say that looking at the fastest forward speed is deceiving if you do not also consider the vert speed on the same jump. WS fall slower, go forward slower but also glide FURTHER. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

I think you might be looking at the Data incorrectly. Fabian (the top WS on TD.com) has a GR of 2.6 to one (4,924 meters horizontal in 1883 vertical) And Luc's (the tracker on TD.com) has GR of 1.5 to one (3546 meters horizontal in 2327 vertical). Indeed, looking at ground speed, Luc wins...but not in Glide Ratio. You should also read the "race rules" for trackers versus wingsuiters'. The race is based upon time after exit...not vertical distance. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

Since when is an S3 an intermediate suit..?
mbondvegas replied to dragon2's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Yeah, who the hell does this guy think he is, anyway? I really want a Phantom...but I am thinking I would consider an S3. From what I've heard, the Phantom has better performance anyway. I only have 18 flights to date, but am good on exits, instability recovery (practiced several times and used quickly after a couple of failed rodeo's) and pull technique. I'll keep flying my Prodigy until I find what I want. I love wingsuiting. I"m staying in the 60's on average and have low's in the 50's. Forward speed is good but far from great. I still have a lot to learn in the Prodigy...but will be ready for more performance soon so that I can hang with the flockers when I start traveling to bigger DZ's this summer. {Edited for spelling/grammer} - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today. -

SD Mesquites Sizzling spring boogie '07
mbondvegas replied to jtval's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll be there in less than 12 hours....I sure hope the weather is cooperative tomorrow...it looks a bit sketchy...but Sat and Sun look good. I took off work to get some Friday jumps in...even if I can't jump to much due to the weather...hanging at the DZ...beats working -
Agreed. I have both the PF Suit and the Birdman Pantz. The Pantz are better to fly with others who wear RW for FF suits. The PF Suit is too high performance to play with other who don't have the suit (IMHO). But...if you just want to fly balls to the wall...you can't beat the PF Suit. It is also a good progression program for moving to WingSuiting. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

1st cutaway and reserve ride - some thoughts
mbondvegas replied to sgt_ludy's topic in Safety and Training
I second that without the caveat related to small mains. I had a hardcutaway on a Spectre 210 with a lineover that spun it into line twist...It makes no sense to not have hard housings in your risers....no matter the size of you main. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today. -

horizontal speed on tracking
mbondvegas replied to jbettingen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just check out the tracking derby link above. Plenty of people can go well beyond 0.5 to 1. 1 to 1 is common. In fact...the top non-WS tracker (Luc Maisin) is getting up to 1.5 to 1. Pretty sick and also probably taking advantage of good tailwind conditions...but he consistently is above 1 to 1. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today. -
Only half the cells opened???and you had to chop? That wasn't caused by just rolling the nose... - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

If you have a 220 (not a 210) then you probably have the old style Tri. I have one too. I never had hard...but had some briskish openings. I just had my lines changed and had the 4.0 MOD (ask your rigger) done and it now opens like a dream! It is a massive improvement. Look at your brake lines....are the outside brake lines attached to the tip (outside corners) of the tail or are they attached one cell inboard? If they are attached to the outside corners....you have the old style brake line and line trim setting...have a rigger change out the lines with a new 4.0 line set...it will be like flying a totally different parachute. Better openings and better flare. Get dacron lines too...that will make it even better. If you can't get the line changes yet for $ reasons...be sure to: 1. Have the right Slider 2. Control your slider to ensure it is quartered pulled slightly to the front 3. Roll the nose 4. Consider Psychopacking But...Get the line mod!!! It is the best $200 investment you can make. I've demo'd a Spectre and I think my Tri opens just as good with the new line mod. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

True...but on a low to no wind day...it's pretty consistent. I have a Garmin Fortrex 201 - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

The pilot is awesome. Sweet openings like the Spectre it appears you already own but a bit more fun and surfy. But if you already have a spectre...do you need another canopy? - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
-
My GPS shows a pretty consistent 2 to 1 glide ratio for me under my Triathlon 220 loaded as 1 to 1. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
-
1 to 1. I got good surf off of similarly a loaded Sabre2, Pilot and Safire...not so much on the Tri. It still lands well..especially since the mod. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

Is a 1992 Javelin TJ with main and reserve worth $1000
mbondvegas replied to 77r's topic in Gear and Rigging
That seems way overpriced to me for a 15 year old Jav! - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today. -
I just got new lines and the mod done on my Tri...and wow...it is seriously like a brand new canopy (but easier to pack). The flare is definitely better. It is still not a surfable flare...but you can get it to stop and the flare keeps going throughout the entire control length. Better than the flare improvement is the openings...I think this is the biggest + of the mod. I never hated the Tri openings...but now it is very good...my first 4 openings on it (all I've had thus far) might actually give the Spectre and Pilot a run for their money (these are the softest opening canopies I have ever flown). Anyway, if anyone has an old tri and is thinking of getting the mod...just do it. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

WS BASE Flocking, 6 way launch, 3 way build

Thanks to all. 1.6 seems to the bar to shoot for. I don't think I need the Mirko Mod just yet...but maybe someday. I still have to figure out how to fly the Prodigy as is. It is fun and easy to fly as is, but it does strain the shoulders alot. Time to get in better shape!

Digging up an old thread. What kind of vertical speeds and Glide Ratio's are people getting out of the Prodigy in the skydiving environment? Just wondering. I only have 7 flights on mine to date. My vertical speeds are much slower (66MPH average) but my Glide Ratio's are not better than my best tracks (average of 1:1). I realize 7 flights is super new...just wondering what I might be shooting for!
