  1. this particular ad doesnt have a photo. plenty of others dont, so that is not a problem. im just wondering why he couldnt send one over dz.com in a PM. there could be legitimate computer problems, but i dont know the difference in uploading and sending a picture on here vice any other email. sounds like i just need to get a number and go from there, i just need to know the right questions to ask. we need to talk about your flare..
  2. I understand its not necessarily a red flag if a profile is missing information. It just seems several little things are not adding up. I really need a rig, and I want to trust people on here, but not knowing many people on here or at least knowing people that know people like the long time dz.comers, I feel I need to cover my bases. Oh, and I havnt been to SDD for a while. I just moved to So Cal, but Im sure Ill find a rigger out here. I did hound Jeff along with everyone else with a lot of questions when I was starting out there though.Thats probably why they started going out of town more often.. we need to talk about your flare..
  3. I have found a rig in the classifieds that I am considering puting an offer on. However, there are some things that concern me and I am trying to figure out if they are valid, or if I am just being a little paranoid since it is my first big item to buy over the internet. For one, the seller's profile does not have any information what so ever, other than the date of registration; not even a first name. Second, I PM'd the seller asking for photos of the rig, but he replied saying dz.com wouldn't let him post them, and asked for an alternate email. The ad has the rig's components, serial #s, and date of mftr. but no description of its current condition. Also, I checked the container manufacturer's site and according to their size chart, both reserve and main are larger than the container was intended for, but being new, Im not sure how big a deal this is. Please let me know if I should pass on this, or if it's legitimate and Im just over anylizing things. I want to make a move soon, so hasty advice would really help. we need to talk about your flare..
  4. [reply ood thing it's a speech and not a written exam. For a college guy, your spelling, grammar and punctuation is atrocious. I was EE and even I noticed it. Hahaha. I will not refute this. The 'shift' key is just too much out of the way. [replyFor the record, I reservedly support mandatory physical education at all levels of public education. The reservation is that it should be along the lines of the military's physical training standard. I can see merit in this. I have never learned as much about myself than the time I first went through "The Crucible". This was a two week long pre-season fitness camp. When an individual is forced to push themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of, it is an experience that will change how they evaluate challenges of any form for the rest of their life. Of course, what I am talking about here would have to be considerably more mild. Dont want to give the ACLU anything else to occupy themselves with. we need to talk about your flare..
  5. thanks friends. this has been really helpful in helping me develop counter arguments. here is a reply to some of the points made: first of all, here you dont pay for each credit once you are a full time student. in other words, 12 units costs the same as 18, so there would be no extra cost. PE doesnt have anything to do with my major- not directly, but niether does the fine arts credits and GE's that you pay for that most schools in teh US require. i firmly believe somone who is fit will perform better in most other aspects of life than if they werent. it wil result in more confidence, mental focus, and overall first impressions that could put you ahead of the game in the businuess world. sounds like a stretch, but there is actualy strong research for this, and people that ARE fit can attest to it. this being the case, if a university is going to prepare you to cope with life after college, why not include the physical aspect. jobs will come and go, but youre body is all you are gauranteed for the rest of your life, so why shouldnt learning how to take care of it as important as learnign how to obtain a career that is not gauranteed. the truth is, most students dont have the time or discipline to keep a regimine, so if it was part of the curriculum, problem solved. the younger people start exercising, the more likely they are to continue later in life, therefore reeking the benifits, especialy as they age when health becomes more critical. economicaly- as one poster said, no, PE in college wil probably not make a huge impact. but it should be part of a collective effort that beggins in elementary school. over time, perhaps the dammage of overweight and obesity will start to minimize. either way, at the current rate, health related issues plus missed work days due to obesity IS damaging the economy. maybe a question i should have asked to those that had mandatory PE is, putting aside your feelings of the policy, did you feel better and more health physically and mentaly than when you left college/stop taking them. there are plenty of classes that will always be a hassle and i dont like, but whether they benifited me and prepared me for life is the main issue. we need to talk about your flare..
  6. this is still semi true. i am church of christ, and they gave me a generous scholarship for that reason because i think they are trying to salvage their reputation as a christian school. however, from what i have observed (keeping in mind this is my first semester) it is not as conservative as people think.my biology professors teach evolution theory in cells and christians (ones that actualy walk the walk, not ones that have just been raised in a christian family ect.) are a minority. heck, my suite mates take a six pack to the shower every night. it seems to be a pretty multi-faceted atmosphere. yep, still starts with a prayer, but the topics seem to be more worldy related in a general sense i.e. aids, darfur, sex trafficing ect. there wasnt mcuh of a religious spin put on the ones i went to, although ofcourse there is still prayer and christian references. but ive only been to five, which is why your little ploy that got you out of that pickle has my interest. im loving pepperdine. it is a unique atmosphere here and there is a lot of opportunity. the science department is kicking my kiester though. if you have any advice on beating the convo system, im all ears. i consider myself a christian, but christian or not, convo credit is just a hassle. we need to talk about your flare..
  7. was this in college? did you go to pepperdine? thats the only college i can think of by malibu canyon and the pch. that is in fact where i go to school, and no, there are no more pe requirements which is why i chose this subject.yikes, that patty bright sounds like a hardy bag of salt and will probably out live us all. we need to talk about your flare..
  8. for an exam, im giving a persuasive speech on mandatory PE requirements, and need to conduct a survey and gather public opinion(s) to refference. i am taking the position that a minimal (minimal does not have to be defined for the speech, but use a 1hr class every other day for a reference point) fitness requirement be implemented. here is why: 1. benifits students- many studies and physicaly active people will attest that they perfom at a better level academicaly and personaly when engaged in some sort of consistent excercise program (in any form, not necc. vigerous). however, majority of students do not make time nor have the discipline to do this on there own. therfore, a program would have to be mandatory. not to mention the stress level of college and phys.activities ability to cope with it.(in my speech, i will back up my claim that excercise benefits mental ability with medical research before i proceed to say that a program should be mandatory.) 2. in institutions that are desinged to provide students a well rounded experience and give them tools to succeed in the outside world, why is the most important tool (yes, this is a subjective claim that i will have to back up), the body, neglected? 3. 2/3rds of americans are already overweight, and the trend is ony growing. when health related problems due to overweight and obesity are impacting the economy (ill have to find specific stats), it no longer becomes a choice that affects only the individual, but the whole nation. i dont want to get into gov. policy, but i think this is an interesting claim. thats all i have so far. what are some other strong points to make in favor of fitness requirements? also, i need arguments and counter arguments, so critics welcome. not that you needed an invite around here. however keep in mind this is not about government policy imposed on citizens (this would be another interesting topic though) so the knee jerk response of 'the government shouldnt tell me how to live my life' doesnt apply here. this is about university requirements and if universities should implement their own PE requirements as part of a curriculum. theres a lot to be elaborated on, i know. but im in a hurry, so please delve in, so i can see where it goes and develop my thoughts further. we need to talk about your flare..
  9. yup. thats about right except minus the fast part in my case. props get to experience the full force of the scrum. not a comfortable place it seems, but never been there. have you thought about joining a mens club or did you get your fill? great match- put out Cal Lu (who had a strong comback in the beer pong at the social), and a boot shoot or two. we need to talk about your flare..
  10. hahaha. oh kripes. just realized how old this thread is (or was). i guess the recussitation course i just took went to my head. i forgot when i typed in vector to modify the results by time. we need to talk about your flare..
  11. yes. i had this same quandrie when i first started looking into the vector because on the website at the time it said something along the lines of " available on all micron sizes and up to 347". the good news: i ordered a 348 just last week, and my dealer said they do in fact now offer magnetic riser covers on larger models. the bad news: the estimated arrival time is june 29th. not sure how this compares with other brands, but its quite a wait none the less we need to talk about your flare..
  12. now that you mention it, there is a kid who does in fact substitue beer for water in his water bottle that he brings to practice, so perhaps i jumped the gun on that one. i play flanker, and yes this is indeed my first season and i have paid my rookie dues, but im in it for the long haul, or at least for the rest of my Pepperdine cariere. tommorows the last official match of the season we need to talk about your flare..
  13. to me, rugby isnt complete without the scrum and rucks of union. however, i think the states only involvment at the higher level is in the super league. i could be wrong. we need to talk about your flare..
  14. in my opinion, rugby is the best team sport in the world, yet is overshadowed here in the states by televised poker tournements and spelling b's on espn. this is understandable, since you have to be in shape to play rugby, and can be drunk to play poker, the appeal to americans is obvious. im not comparing these as activities, but the popularity of them. i have not seen one rugby match on american tv, except a brief wrap up of the recent sevens in san diego. from an entertainment aspect, it seems rugby could cater to the same demographics of anyone from nfl to ufc fans. just curious as why its not catching on here. lacross is starting to get some play, but lacross is an american sport to start with and playd by ferries anyway right? our rugby club here at pepperdine gets less funding than the other sports, which doesnt really bother me because its not a big revenue generator. by the way, if there does exist any rugby fans in the malibu area, we play tommorow 1pm here at pepperdine university.however i would advise any attractive women to stay away from the old guy with crooked fingers, hes my sleezy 70 year old coach and will probably drug and violate you. not necessarily in that order. we need to talk about your flare..
  15. its that they are the pinacle of practicality when it comes to buying clothes. they will never out grow their oversized clown suits. throw in a sturdy pole and some anchors, and they have themselves a nice shelter when the eviction notice comes. generalization of course. we need to talk about your flare..
  16. leave. thats what i did after going to school at Lubbock christian for a year, and am still bitter at that hive of simpletons. go see if a transvestite still works at the wendys on 19th. we need to talk about your flare..
  17. just started school in malibu and not at all familiar with southern california. im trying to find my way out to a drop zone. ive heard of perris and elsinore, but perhaps there are more accesable ones around.also, pepperdine is right off the PCH and if any of you friendly faces happen to take the PCH on the way to a DZ and wouldnt mind sharing a ride, i would gladly put in (not to be confused with out) for some gas and food, and possibly a topic of discussion. consider. shayne smith we need to talk about your flare..
  18. i was able to urinate in public for the first time. i would like to thank my college buddies. we need to talk about your flare..
  19. haha. not quite. it was actualy a pretty humble and reasonable query, or so i thought (190 to 170) and gave my jump history. it was probably due to the fact that people didnt read the entire post, or even more probable, because im a 19 year old republican that eats meat and goes to church...not a popular combination here it seems. we need to talk about your flare..
  20. oh dear. youve said the forbidden phrase. congrats on making it to 8 replies without a slam. this has to be a record on here. i think i made it to three when i asked the same question. we need to talk about your flare..
  21. haha. you see, that wasnt so hard was it? a good, thorough explanation that one can benifit from.the charts i have seen are simply charts with no explanation. this was the sort of start i was hoping to get off to. i know your on your way, but same i said with mick, im open to anything else of this sort, or experiences of same mistakes, because you see, without high and sight how would i know it would be a mistake? if people could always see mistakes comming, there wouldnt be many, right? take care. we need to talk about your flare..
  22. 'we (old timers) are trying to tell you To LISTEN TO HISTORY' this history is exactly what us up and commers need and want to hear which will have much more impact and significance than just the scoldings which is all seemed to get out of this with the exception of brabzz and eccl which generously provided thier experience to open up alternate routes. mick and mjo,i am not set on anything.i ALWAYS will be open and coherent to any constructive advice you and any other experienced jumper has to offer.if you must be on your way, thanks for stopping by.i will continue to be here asking questions. we need to talk about your flare..
  23. thanks mjo, im working on it. so to get back on track for any willing to help, what is the best way to approach the delima of safety and long term use of a container? considering im on 190 now, what is the best all around choice for the long haul?generaly speaking, if im jumping about every weekend, what will i be ready for when my gear gets ready? its been suggested to get a 350 which is built for 190 but could fit 170, or get a lower pack vol./higher square ft. like the raven that could fit in 348. im sure many of you went through the same delimma, so what did you do and how did it work out for you? would you do anything different? we need to talk about your flare..
  24. haha.i have no problem with the sarcasm. just gives me the chance to partake as well. but people are too quick to grumble, without giving reasons why they think what they do. the reasons are what im interested in and are what will save people that wouldnt know otherwise, not the simple minded one liners.im sure with your time in the sport, you and mojo have gained some truly valuable and painful knowledge no doubt, but what good is it if its put to youngsters as "if he wants to kill himself, let him"? seeing as i have not been around to see these things, how would i know if my question was unreasonable in reality?if you have seen catastrophies attributed to similar scenarios, then i would find those experiences truly valuable. thats why im here in the first place, to learn from others' experience, not others' hemroids.experiences will always speek louder than any chart, and will get the attention of more up and commers as myself. still though, i think it is a shame people cant offer wise advice and options to a simple question.if you dont know or want, what else is there to say?like i said,i respect your guys experience in the sport, and am open to any of them that may help or persuade. thats all i was asking for in the first place. we need to talk about your flare..
  25. what unauthorized move have i made yet?this is exactly what my post was all about.to get advice so i could sensibly make my next move into my own gear. im glad you realize this. this is exactly why applying your comment of being tough and stupid doesnt belong here. haha. dear friend, where did you get this notion?i think you just saw '30 jumps' and 'wing loading' and then had a knee jerk response. if you go back to my post and replies, you will see i provide my past progressions, jump numbers, and WL's under two potential sizes, which i ask "is this acceptable?"which is as simple of a question as there is. you could answer a)no or b)yes, and then explain based on your experience. you take for grannit that this stuff is common knowledge to you by now.i also ask what my options are for having a reserve closer to the size of my main or bigger since this is what comes recomended.this is hardly the words of somone who thinks themself better than average. then you dont have any reason to be posting here. we need to talk about your flare..
