  3. Mattb: Thanks for the site, I was going searching for it!! Divadiver
  4. Mattb: Congratulations to both of you!! Since you have more experience than she, you're going to want to be as supportive and helpful as possible on those days when being a student really sucks for her (had experience here). Hopefully she won't have too many of these, but sometimes student status can suck the fun right out of jumping when you don't get it right. Keep it fun!! Divadiver
  5. Sis: Make sure where ever you have your surgery done that you have a doctor who has been trained and has years of experience doing laser surgery (Sorry Laserq3 that will leave you out - grin). If the laser surgery is anything like radial surgery, the outcome of the surgery will vary from person to person depending on the amount of correction needed. Those who need only slight vision correction will have a better chance at 20/20 (or better) vision after the surgery. Those who need more correction should expect better vision, but may not get 20/20 vision. I had the radial surgery about 6 years ago. I don't know about the laser surgery, but you need to consider your lifestyle as well before having it done. If you play sports (baseball, boxing, throwing a frisbee, etc. . .) where there is a chance you may get hit in the eye, you'll need to take precautions and wear appropriate protection for your eyes. With the radial surgery getting hit in the eye could mean your eye actually shattering on you (this is because there are tiny, spoke like incisions made around the cornea of the eye). I wore contacts for years and because I had blood vessels growing into my cornea, I was told that I could no longer wear contacts. I had been through every type made before I was told this. Glasses were not an option for me. I'd worn glasses, but only for short periods of time. I have never, ever owned a pair of glasses that didn't either pinch the back of my ears, the bridge of my nose or I was constantly pushing them around on my face. I spent money on the lightest, most flexible, you name it kinds of glasses and still no relief. So, I had the surgery, and I don't regret it for a minute. I woke up the next day and could read the clock on the table next to my bed, I could look down the hall and make out who was standing 3 rooms away. There is always the possibilities that when I hit 40-45 and start holding things away from me with outstretched arms, I'll still need to wear glasses eventually. But, hey (not give away my age here), I've still got some time left to take in the sights! Good luck Sis!! Divadiver (just my .02)
  6. A grand total of 3! Divadiver
  7. Hellian/Ed: It's been over a year since you were a Wuffo . . . your 18th in December . . . Did you start jumping at 16?? Scrimping and Saving . . . can we say responsible, young adult here . . .Geesh, when I grow up I want to be just like you!! Oh, to be young again (maybe not that young)!! Divadiver
  8. Sounds like the PLFKing!! Where is Kingie??? Did we lose him, or did he change his name? Divadiver
  9. One of my first questions to my TM was, ever had anyone pass out on you? The reply was no, but I've been puked on before, you just let me know if you think you're going to be sick. I didn't pass out, didn't get sick, didn't pull the rip cord but loved the ride under canopy, and so started the addiction. The first time at the DZ I remember sitting there before the class watching these guys down these sausage biscuits the size of huge hamburgers thinking to myself, how the hell are they going up in the plane and jumping after eating that!! A couple of jumps later and I was sitting out there with them having my coffee, ham and cheese croissant ready for the first load up! I can remember one morning this big dude going up with one of my JM's and the JM coming back into the hanger bitch'n about having to wash his jumpsuit. TM's love big guys to begin with (work, work hard) and for them to puke on them just makes it that much better (snicker, snicker). Divadiver (13)

lazerq3: During your AFF progression you'll have a briefing with the DZ pilot. Go ahead and ask him/her about jumping from a plane that's not at the DZ and just watch his/her eyes widen and grow to the size of dinner plates!! It'll be fun!! Divadiver

  18. Edid: It's a known fact that you can jump right up into your 9th month of pregnancy. It does take a little more maneuvering with the round tummy, but can be just as . . .Oh, wait, you were actually talking about jumping from the plane weren't you!!?? You can jump all you want/afford . . . your significant other would want to check with her OB/GYN. Somehow, I'm thinking the possibility of a hard landing, early labor contractions, premature birth, may persuade her to think twice about jumping at 5+ months into her pregnancy. Not to mention her body will be changing and she'll already be experiencing a motherly arch of her own which may not be very comfortable. The chest strap may be another small inconvenient, uncomfortable piece of the equipment to consider as well. Hmmm, any DZ operators out there . . . in all that paperwork that you fill out before you start jumping is there anything in there about jumping while pregnant? I don't know maybe I've been around lawyers too long, but I'm betting it's like strapping a newborn to you and jumping. Where does the rights of the child come in and there are questions as to your parental responsibilities of safeguarding your child. Edid, good questions, I'm thinking there's a paper just waiting for a Family Law Student to write. Hope this didn't sound like I was judging your situation, I was just thinking out loud. Divadiver

  22. Froggie: Congratulations and Happy Birthday my little green friend!! Hope this snow, sleet and freezing rain lets up so you can fly soon!! Divadiver
