    Wish me luck

Hey all, its been a while. Wish me a bit of luck as I return to SD Monroe during the first week of April to finish up my AFF. I ran out of time last year and have been saving like mad to get it done this year Talk to y'all soon :) Abraxas
  2. I used to say this to my jump partner Chanda before my jumps: "If I crash and burn, try to get a copy of the autopsy report. Laugh while you read the coroners reaction about digging dirt from my eyes". I'd try to aim for the non parachute packing POS individual that did this to me. Straight through the hanger roof to the packing area. LOL. I hope this happens to no one....ever.
  3. Hey Lew, just read your post and re-read your email.I also read all of the replies so far. It is NOT too much to expect a DZ to make a head count after ANY jump, sunset or not. What happened to you was a fubar, plain and simple. Though I am an experienced former military jumper( Lie #1: No wind on a military DZ)the sport scene is a new thing to me. I would be a bit more relaxed knowing that if I wound up in the woods(or water, or sub-division) someone on the staff would wonder where Abraxas was and start looking. Hopefully, the DZ staff will see these replies and implement some kind of check/balance so this wont happen again, either to an experienced jumper, or (even worse) a student. Damn glad you're OK Lew. blue skies, Abraxas

    gear etc

Hey all, I am a level 3 AFF student and have a couple of questions for future reference. After I graduate, I plan to purchase, in the following order: 1. Slipstream 2 jumpsuit 2. Altimeter (probably an Altimaster 3) 3. Helmet (probably an oxygn A-3) Anybody have input on this? I am mainly interested in comments on the A-3 helmet. Who has one? Pros? Cons? I'd appreciate any info at all. After I get my A license, I'll be back on asking about rigs etc but this is all I need to worry about for the moment. I've also posted in a couple of other forums to get info Thanks for reading DS

  8. I'll be doing my level 3 AFF jump this coming weekend at SD Monroe. During the dive flow training, the jumpmasters told me to practice "toe taps" while at my house. On the floor (or on a creeper), get into your arch(think "Bubba"). Have a friend, preferrably an experienced jumper, watch you as you bring your legs together and touch your toes.Have them tell you whether or not you touched smoothly. Practice it some more.By practicing with an experienced jumper on the ground, you are creating good "muscle memory" that will help you in the air. Above all, if you have any questions, pick the jumpmasters brains. Thats one of the reasons you are paying for them: Their experience. These guys have been around for a long time and have made boo-koo jumps. Some things that may be hard for you and I would be second nature to them. Dont give up. Keep a good attitude and kick L3's ass on your next jump. Best of luck DS
  9. 1st Btn, 75th Infantry. US Army. Transferred to Allied mobile forces land component (NATO) in the 80's Got my badge on a little known island. A complete inter-service rivalry fu*k-up. Ring a bell? DS
  10. Just a note from an ex-commando type. I did my turn in the barrel, I have my C.I.B. . I don't wish combat on anyone. War is harmful for people and other living things. I say the following and say it with the utmost respect to those who are now serving in our nations' armed forces: You are our guardians. You have earned my respect. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the many sacrifices you have made and will make in the name of God, freedom, and the United States of America. Godspeed, fellow brothers and sisters in arms.
  11. Yep, its this way all over the web.I logged onto CNNFN.com to watch my portfolio tumble some more and saw a blip about yet another version of that fu*king "code red" worm/virus being sent out. The usual warnings were included:don't open blank emails with attached .exe files, don't spit on old people, be careful with corporate user lists, yada yada yada. What a pain in the as* .
  12. Nice shots Lew, looks like jumping with you would be a hoot! Blue skies and tight lines. Abraxas
  13. I was skyborn at Ft. Benning, GA. Got thrown out of an old C-130 @1500 ft. I was reborn at Skydive Monore and have adopted it as my home DZ. (They no doubt shudder at the thought) Blue skies and tight lines! Abraxas
  14. Very nice. I have blatantly stolen your jpeg and am sending it on to all my friends. Has anyone thought about making a 10 or 12 way formation with an American flag being held in the center? That might be a nice gesture on the part of us skydivers to show our support. Blue skies! Abraxas
