You could always cut the mamba up when you are done with it and sew your new slider for the Velo out of it. Its the best thing you could do for the Mamba. Sorry - not a helpful post. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Staff Drug Testing as a Condition of Employment.
jacketsdb23 replied to matthewcline's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have many issues with that article but ill stay on topic. Use during work is absolutely a problem and should not be tolerated. Use on your own time is not a safety issue, period. As mentioned by others you basically single out the pot smokers. Packers smoking and packing student gear as the article alledges is a problem. Saftey meeting at the end of the day is not. And sueing for a toggle fire that wasn't dealt with properly is asinine. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
I inquired last week about an all sail version of the JVX and was told they are no longer selling them. I was told they have a new fabric in the testing stages but not ready for production. Last week was the first I've heard they are no longer producing all sail. The question is why? Lack of sales? Fabric issues? Buddy - Learn to swoop on the sabre 2. I don't know how many jumps you have but with your questions and answers I don't think it matters. If you are bored with the 190 go to the 170 and learn to swoop with it. A crossfire canopy is a highly elliptical canopy that is for advanced canopy pilots. Learn to fly the crap out of the sabre 2 before you go to a crossfire. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

So could one argue that for jumpers without the experience required to jump a heavily loaded Xbrace canopy that maybe air locks do make sense? This would leave me to believe that the major factor in these canopies not becoming popular is the marketing issue. I don't have the numbers but I would have to believe Xbraced canopies make up a much smaller percentage of the canopy market than non-Xbrace. That pretty much takes Xbrace out of the discussion. And he should know better. People, don't get complacent. If its not yours, you better damn well know everything that is and is not on/in that rig. Borrow a rig? Ask what reserve it is...because you might need it. Believe that if NB can get caught...so can you. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Key phrase. Me thinks anyone doing an 810 would verify that prior to doing said 810. This is why I'm very careful about borrowing gear...complacency with unfamiliar gear = BAD. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

I may try to get out to Deland for the first competition of the season. Nothing definitive but I had a couple of questions for those familiar with the league. I assume that being the first year involved with the league I'll be competing at the advanced level, which is fine. I'm really just trying to learn as much as possible about competitive swooping right now. I've done a few local competitions in California and competed at Nationals last year (advanced). How is advanced vs. pro level determined in the Florida league? Is the weather date the Sunday of the same weekend? Do most people who fly in/out leave Monday? I anticipate leaving on the Monday after the scheduled event if I end up committing to this event. I'm really looking forward to at least a couple of the events to see how an organized and well attended swoop league is run. Would love to get something similar going out on the West Coast. Thanks! EDIT: Found part of my answer on the Florida Canopy Piloting website: CLASSES: The FLCPA consists of two classes, a Rookie/Amateur class, and a Pro/Open Class. All pilots are considered Amateur unless they are issued pro qualification. This can be done by: (A) Placing in the top 20% of the membership during the prior years FLCPA season. (B) Pro’s from Abroad may be permitted to complete in the pro class by providing substantial evidence of qualifying competition experience in their country of origin at an international level. (C) Have experience that at the discretion of the league director qualifies the pilot to compete as a Pro Class Pilot. anybody got word about a new icarus canopy!?
jacketsdb23 replied to virgin-burner's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Is the JFX the canopy Redline over at Lodi has been using? Edit: They've been jumping them for some time. It'll be interesting to see if the JFX is strictly a high performance CRW canopy or if its marketed otherwise. I know there are a bunch of people who ground launch in Pacifica. As to whether or not its a good beginner launching area, I don't know. I know many people I jump with who have learned there on skydiving gear. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Nick - love reading most of your posts...but I disagree with this statement. MOST is pretty strong. I would wager that its less than 50% of skydivers wish to BASE someday. It would be an interesting pole if you could get accurate results...I bet its in the 15-20% range. They are completely different sports. None better or worse than the other, but different, and there is a huge Risk/Reward gap...for me at least. And the chest strap...DUDE! Its obvious people knew he was coming. Camera on the exiting side of the pool, everyone in the pool has made a "lane" for him. Awesome swoop. That looks like a cool ass place. Nice job. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Maybe Bill will allow wingsuit jumping again, with this fine from the FAA? To help pay it off. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -

Bump. We are having a lot of fun over in Byron right now. Come and play during the boogie. There will be some RW organizing and VFS. The VFS stuff going on right now is off the hook. Marcel Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Do You Want A Predictable Landing Pattern ?
jacketsdb23 replied to danornan's topic in Safety and Training
Bottom line - there are major landing pattern issues across the country. Its starts with enforcement. In the five years I've been jumping I've seen two people grounded for landing pattern violations. It was at the American Boogie (big ways) and they both landed three fields away (nobody else there) and they were still grounded. It just seems absurd that nobody else wants to enforce such a basic safety issue. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
You never know when you talk to someone that might be the last time. I spoke with Bob right before he got on the plane in the loading area. I didn't know Bob well but from what I could tell he was a pleasant person. Wasn't there to prove anything to anyone - just wanted to jump out of an airplane and be one with the sky. I wish we knew what the hell happened. Blue Skies Bob. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Canopy Piloting Nationals Amateur vs. Open
jacketsdb23 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I suppose that is part of my concern. I'd rather see how I stack up against 50 competitors in the pro category as opposed to 3 or 4 in the amateur group. I spoke with a local jumper who did the amateur last year and she said there was about 10 -12 in that group, which would be very cool. Either way, i'll be there. Canopy Piloting Nationals Amateur vs. Open
jacketsdb23 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
For those of you who have gone to Nationals before...what is the competition like in the Amateur group? I'm going to Nationals and right now plan to participate in the Amateur competition. This being my first swoop competition outside of my local area the amateur group made sense. Are there many that compete in that division? Just looking for some feedback on the competitive differences. I know there are rule differences. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
OK, silly technical question. What device is used to make sure the pilot chute is not released until the canopy is out? Looks like a cable is used to initially stow the pilot chute. That must of been a hell of a gig. Looked awesome. Did you hear how loud the crowd got when they saw the first parachute? ` Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Do you 'quarter' your slider?
jacketsdb23 replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Slider is one of only a few things that are vital to a pack job, IMHO. I take the time to quarter it nicely. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
NorCal Swoop Meet #3 We had a great time up in Lincoln on Saturday at Skydive Sacramento with four competitors competing on 5 foot gates. The conditions were great and it came down to the last round of the day (accuracy) to declare a winner. Congratulations to Erika Dufort (456.2) for taking 1st place. Second place went to Peter Galli (440.8) and third place went to John D'Alessio (385.4). Finally 4th place went to Marcel Pomerleau (367.8) The competition started with 2 rounds of distance, followed by 2 rounds of speed, finishing with 2 rounds of accuracy. The raw scores and (round scores) were as follows: 2 Rounds of Distance Erika: 303.5' (100), 331' (100) Peter: 278.25' (91.6), 279' (84.29) John: 233.50' (76.9), 163.50 (49.4) Marcel: 241.75' (79.6), 292.00 (88.2) 2 Rounds of Speed Erika: 3.27s (100), x (0) Peter: x (0), 5.7 (100) John: 4.7s (69.5), x (0) Marcel: x (0), x (0) 1000th jump!! Thanks to Skydive Sacramento for hosting the event and thanks to Peter Galli for organizing. As of now, this was the third and final meet of the season. There may be some unrelated events if there is interest. Food and BBQ was great too! Good luck to those of you attending the Canopy Piloting Nationals September 1 -4 in Spaceland.
