    FS1

The flat bitch warp covers - forward, backins, slow fall/fast fall, side ins, 360 in place turns, swooping (on formations NOT canopy.... ;op) once these have been covered you then have a 3 point 3 way then a 4 point 4 way to do.............. (which at hinton is a set dive)............. basically you learn the basics one on one and then use your skills to fly formation......... and once you get your FS1 you can leave all the flat shit behind and come out and have some REAL flying fun with FFly............... 17. So he is trying again after several failed attempts....... how many people are in the process of doing this record jump at the moment??? The last paragraph cracks me up........ "French Record 12,000ft"........mmmmmm written by a whuffo perhaps????? Skydiver aims to fall to Earth faster than Concorde flies A skydiver is to travel as fast as Concorde in an attempt to set four world records. Michel Fournier, 57, from France, is planning to jump from 130,000ft – nearly 25 miles – from a balloon, reaching speeds of around 1,000mph as he falls back to earth. The former French Army major hopes to set two new world records: to be the first man to go through the sound barrier in freefall and to set the record for fastest freefall – and break two more, the highest jump and the highest flight in a balloon. He said that anything to do with flight and parachuting was his "passion", and he had created the challenge for the pleasure of creating it and succeeding. A polythene balloon is being built by Bristol-based Cameron Balloons, who created the Breitling Orbiter balloon which circumnavigated the globe. The canopy will be around 170 times the size of an average balloon, at 510,000 cubic metres (18 million cubic feet), and will be around 95 metres high, measuring around 105 metres in diameter. Mr Fournier will spend around three hours ascending in an enclosed lightweight gondola before deflating the balloon and parachuting back to earth in six minutes and 25 seconds. Around 30 seconds into the jump he will break the sound barrier at over 700mph and after about 60 seconds, he will reach terminal velocity, before opening a parachute to slow his descent and land. A parachute will also open on the gondola to allow it to descend safely. The 57-year-old will wear a spacesuit to allow him to breathe and protect him from the extremely low temperatures, which can drop as low as – 90 C plus wind chill factor, as well as from UV and cosmic rays. The parachutist, who has skydived more than 8,000 times, more than 100 of them at high altitude, said he was not at all afraid of his record beating attempt. He said: "What I like the most is the extreme, always higher, faster, further and more audacious." He said that he has trained every day for the past 10 years, including running and yoga, as well as carrying out high altitude jumps in a simulator. Mr Fournier, who was born at Treban in central France and lives near Bordeaux, already holds the French record for jumping at 12,000ft. 19. Inspired by another thread – what are the most stupid questions a whuffo has asked you about the sport……… 1) When do you decide to come down – “come in number 5 your time is up” 2) What happens if your chute fails – “you have a reserve” 3) What happens if your reserve fails – “you die” 4) How far do you go up when your chute comes out 5) Its unnatural surely – “yep gravity is the most unnatural thing in the world” 6) Does it hurt when you touch someone in freefall coz you fall so fast? 7) The more experienced you get the higher you go – “yep soon I can go into space” 8) How do you decide where to land – “huh?” 9) Can you breathe? – “no we all sufficate” 10) Don’t you get bored after doing one or two jumps? – “don’t your single brain cell get bored” 11) I used to be a skydiver I did a static line jump once – “mmm interesting that” 12) I’m a skydiver – I did a tandem once – “prat” 13) What happens if you forget to pull your parachute? – “you get another go to try again” 14) 700ft that’s really high! 15) Do you pack your own or do you need an instructor to pack it for you? 16) How many people do you know have died – “1 horse rider and a car driver” 17) Oh so you must jump off buildings as well then? – “yeah I skydive so I must BASE as well” 18) You are all crazy death wish people – “we are safer than most people” Their must be some classics out there – these are just things my work collegues have said – I now never ever talk about skydiving to whuffos – they just cant understand………………. bsbd "In a world where we are slaves to gravity I am pleased to be a freedom fighter"

  22. Alright G - hows you?........... you comin' to Langar over Xmas?? In regard to your post - do you find that the low hookers that use toggles rather than risers are some long time jumpers rather than the new breed - my DZ for example the owners/cci/instructors who have been in the sport for decades all use toggles for their hook - its only the people who have been in the sport say less than a decade that are using risers..... although saying that there are a few "newish" jumpers that prefer toggles - it makes me cringe everytime I see a certain person hook low with an agressive toggle........ I assume its that swooping is still relatively young as a skill and persons looking into it now start with risers - but if you have been using toggles since 1975 then why start learning a new skill when you have a skill you have been doing for 20 odd years............. just a thought............. but saying that there are a lot of newish jumpers i know that have never used their risers.....(some who are interested in swooping others that are not)............ and will continue with toggles....... until they "femur turn" it in i suppose........... have fun geoff........ and if you fancy Langar on Boxing day some other days and new years day bang me a PM I will let you know details........... (FreeF) All Success!! bsbd "In a world where we are slaves to gravity I am pleased to be a freedom fighter"

I was just curious on how people break off after a Ffly dive – I have been on a few dives where there have be collisions between Ffliers because people have turned 180 as they go flat or just peeled off backwards and have had people behind / above them……. I know we should all be aware of where everyone is on the dive but sometimes you hear your dytter and you just peel off or turn 180 and flat. I myself will turn to find a clear corridor before I go flat and this means I normally go flat and track around 4000ft (most go at 4,500) I then barrel role before deployment just to make sure no one is above me. Sometimes we all jump with people of varying skill sets and it would be nice to brief everyone on how to break safely – there is not enough thought about this IMHO. Can you explain how you break from ffly dives to cut down the possibility of collisions or how do you explain to someone say who is on your 4 or 5 way who is not that used to jumping with that many people? Just trying to get a bigger picture on how people jump safely……………. More knowledge – more fun! BSBD "In a world where we are slaves to gravity I am pleased to be a freedom fighter"
