    BASE numbers

BASE is so much more a personal sport than skydiving that logging jumps you have not done and getting a BASE number you have not earned is only in fact cheating yourself..(i do not yet have a BASE number - so im in fact just a A S & O jumper)....... in fact the people who lie about their BASE experience are normally skydiving wannabes! Who's done a BASE fjc?

I did a FJC with CR but bought vertigo kit. CR were helpful in checking that i had rigged it up properly, they taught me to pack on it and also had no problem with letting me jump it. The advantage of buying CR kit and doing the CR course is that they offer discount off the kit (well they did when i did the course anyway. HTH Be Safe Be Low Michael

    Fatality Analysis

I have started drawing up on Excel an analysis of the BASE fatality list where i can then run pivot tables and thus have some more detailed data. This is proving to be taking longer than i first envisaged - so thought I would ask if anyone has done anything similar on "The List"??? I thought I read somewhere that someone was thinking of doing this very thing..!?!? Be Safe Be Low M

    First experience

You aint conservative in my book taking off a crapy bit of skydiving kit on a BASE jump - even if it is a >800ft bridge. Use specific gear - it is developed for the job. Dont cut corners in BASE......... Life is lethal! Be Safe Be Low M

    UK Birdman

At my local DZ there is a 500 jump limit on starting wingsuits - since finding a new parachuting hobbie to take my time up I am unlikely to move my 450 jumps up to the 500 in the next couple of years. Are there any UK DZ's (eg Langar, Sibson) that perhaps are more relaxed about jump numbers? Cheers Michael
  14. I am still following this! I had some questions about the canopy I jump for BASE and the manufacturer did not come back at me and say "well hey you aint jumping it for what we designed it for!" instead they listened to me and answered my questions, gave me advice, asked for my thoughts and asked for my findings whilst i experimented (even though I am a complete newbie in this sport - but they still treated my opinion as valid as someone more experienced than me!) . For a come back like "enough of the bad mouthing about my canopy" to me seems extremely bad PR for a company - I am new to BASE and have found most people most helpful - even as far as one manufacter advising me on the merits of anothers canopy! opinions are to me what this sport is about - because it is so young - it is up to you to make YOUR OWN OPINION from other peoples opinions - instead of saying to Tom "shut up" you should have given a structured reply to his "opinion" of a canopy he has jumped. I find Toms analysis of aspects of this sport structured and well written - and although I may, in my newbie frame of mind, question things that he says - he is one of only a small amount of people on Blinc I actually make time to read his posts. To just get your heckles up and bad mouth him makes me question your own ethos and as a representive of a BASE company question your companys ethos - surely this is bad PR for a company whom this newbie may have looked toward in the future for gear and advice. Oh well enough of this - just me bored at home blown out from another weekend of jumping by the UK weather. Be Safe Be Low........ Michael

  19. My girlfriend said she would dump me if i started BASE - so i started BASE - and then she came back to me after awhile! - Dont let the b4stards grind you down!! Dont ever let them stop you doing what you want to do - dont end up dying looking back saying "oh i wish I had" - if she wont let you be yourself - then let her go........ "3-2-1-Cya Babe" My G/f sits at home worried when i go off and jump - but hey my minds on the jumping so i dont let it get to me!!!!!! B Safe B Low Michael
  20. With BASE sliders you have direct and indirect control. This helps stage the deployment. Indirect control is with the primary bite you take before stowing your lines in the tailpocket. Direct control is banding a bite of the slider to the inner right C-line - opposite to where the tailgate is usually situated This prevents the slider coming down prematurely. Hope this helps B Safe B Low Michael
  21. how you going mate!!! - did not get to respond to your eMail - let me know when you are back in the UK.................. Michael
  22. I have forwarded your post to someone i think may be going............. if he is I guess he will contact you Michael
  23. Having never jumped a vented canopy (I own a Dagger) I can see the benefits for Way Low stuff - which i like cause I hate climbing! but what are they like to jump at terminal - do they give a noticable harder opening than non-vented or is there not that much difference. Be Safe Be Low Michael
  24. "Atair designed a sleeve type valve to prevent this" Sleeve type?? can you build on that description - Does this differ at all to the way CR shut off their vents? Be Safe Be Low Michael
