I am refering to various restrictions put upon the jumpers............ why do you ask?
-
Many spout skydiving in allowing them to have complete control over their lives and a feeling of freedom. Can I ask how many feel restricted in skydiving? We are hand held from students to even the most experienced - we have rules which govern when we can jump, how we can jump, what we can jump. I realise that these rules are there to protect the masses - some people are unable to make these choices for themselves I know people who jump who dont know how kit works, what main they have let alone the reserve on their back - and these rules are there because these people do skydive. I know the rules are a good thing and should never be taken away - I am just curious if some people feel restricted by them and thus loose that sense of complete control and freedom....................... Just me being curious BSBD "Go hard, fast and low"

Has this anything to do with the fact that the authorities were asking for SSNumbers and drivers licences for "security reasons" after the terrorist attacks - just a sneaky way to build up a data base of active jumpers perhaps?? BSBD

Oh i thought this was on touchdown............... did this happen on full drive after your turn? - are you jumping an eliptical?
-
This is a common mis-perception - The side gusts many people experience at touchdown are pilot induced by unknowningly rising the opposite toggle and sometimes pulling the same side toggle down further to the leading foot. You wanna get out of this bad habit before you get onto faster and less unforgiving canopies. HTH BSBD "Go hard, fast & way low"

Poster: Viking Subject: Re: Have you guys ever met a girl that...... oh trust me if she doesn't want to skydive she is gone!!! but she seems like the type that would have no problem with me jumping.....i hope Thats what they all say at the start.............. remember they all end up competing with an unknown quantity...... my girlfriend at the moment says its like i am having an affair......... Whuffo birds never understand............ never will........... its hard to find one who does let you get on with it............. and when you do........... keep hold of her......... its priceless................. Go for it man.................... BSBD "Go hard, fast & Way Low"

Dont worry man......... shes only human........ I mean you plummet to earth at between 120mph & 200mph come on put things in perspective - it wont kill ya....... just make sure from the start she is aware of what comes first - I have been out with "the perfect women" who ask me to give up jumping!!!! --- ha ha ha ............... whatcha reckon i said to that!!! be honest from the start and they should have no reason to moan later when you take off every weekend and dont phone them............. first love - skydiving - second love - the relationship that runs Mon - Thurs (unless you have time off then you go to the DZ!!!) If loneliness is the price of freedom - then so be it! BSBD "Go hard, fast & WayLow"

Start with both front risers on straight in approaches before you start doing 90's and 180's - this will help you learn about the recovery arc of your canopy and also the difference in speed you will experience. HTH BSBD "Go hard, fast & WayLow"

I have nicked this off the Blinc site - thought it may be of interest (apologies Feral) #0, New SONY tape format .......Posted by feral on Sep-30-01 at 08:14 AMLAST EDITED ON Sep-30-01 AT 08:17 AM (PST) In a world scoop feral is able to deliver Base Board readers the first information of SONY'S new tape and camcorder format due for release in November 2001. In a first for the industry Sony will release a new camcorder that is able to record direct to a new micro tape format in MPEG-2 VIDEO.Sony has introduced a new generation of digital camcorders that employ a revolutionary new format called MICROMV.The new format is aimed at the videomaker who intergrates their camcorder and a PC.The new format is designed to create the ultimate personal image capture, edit and archive networks. MICROMV is the first Sony consumer format to use the MPEG-2 video compressionstandard as the basis for its operating system. The advanced recording techology offers outstanding video and audio qualty and uses MICROMV cassettes that are 70 PERCENT SMALLER than MiniDV cassettes.Sony claim that the space saving resulting from the smaller tape size means a significantly smaller camcorder that is easier to carry and simpler to operate. The first MIRCOMV format camcorder will mark a new era in advanced camcorder technology. A convenient new feature or the MICROMV cassettes is an impressive 64KB of memory in each cassette. This lets users access all the details of the info stored on the tape when the last shots recorded, how long the clips are and how muchrecording time left on the cassette. A multi-picture search function using this memory shows users a still image at the start of up to 11 separate clips. The whole 60min tape can be searched in just four minutes with the camcorder's LCD screen function as a monitor. If users want to share their pictures immediately, then the MPEG MOVIE AD feature lets them capture up to 82 minutes of video and audio (in 280 second clips) onto a 128MB Memory Stick in the camcorder.yhis footage can then be tranferred to a PC for easy editing and transmission via email. In developing MICROMV, Sony created a sophisticated set of pc intergrated features and functions using already well accepted video compression techniques. The adoption of MPEG-2 compression enhances internet usage of the material shot by the new format camcorder since it is alresdy a leading open standard, used in many differant applications. At 12Mb/s, MICROMV has a bit rate less than half that of MiniDV and so creates significant savings in hard disk drive space on a PC without compromising picture qualty. At the same time, the newhigh density PB TECHNOLOGY which reads and writes material on a much narrower pitch. This is combined with a 'double scan' data reading system, achieves significantly higher accuracy in data reading and transfer from camcorder to PC. The first MICROMV camcorder (DCR-IP7)offers a range of PC connections options including i.LINK (MICROMV IN/OUT), MEMORY STICK and a USB terminal. The MICROMV camcorder explioits the advantages that non-linear editing technology offers. With MPEG-2's group pictures (GOP) file compression system, real advantages are derived when editing footage as the file structure lets you 'drag-and-drop'files easly into a variety of non-linear editing applications. At the heart of the new MICROMV-baseed DCR-IP7 camcorder is the enhanced functionality made available by the sophistication of the MPEG-2 recording system.According to Sony, despite the small size of the new tape and the camcorder it is used in, the picture quality provided by this MPEG-2 based recording system is equivalent to MiniDV.This high video quality complements MPEG audio layer 2 stereo sound. Standard in the IP7 include Super Steady shot,Carl Zeiss lens 120x digital zoom 10x optical zoom capability, 180,000 pixel precision view finder and a progressive shutter system providing high quality image capture in any conditions. The camcorder uses a 2.5 inch 210,000 pixel LCD screen with a playback zoom facility for instantaneous, high qualty playback of material. For PC connectivity, the IP7 features an i.LINK(MICROMV IN/OUT) with cable supplied. The camcorder also provides analog-in and- out allowing users to transcode analog material from other sources. In another first, the DCR-IP& employs BLUETOOTH technology to enhance its network functionality via a mobile phone< or a Sony BLUETOOTH MODEM BTANW1>.Bluetooth is a industry standard for simple, cordless connection and data transfer within a range of 10m. By employing Bluetooth features users can gain wireless access to their email facilities (both picture and text) or brouse the web. The DCR-IP7 MEPG MOVIE AD recording mode on Memory Stick lets users record an MEPG MOVIE in four different modes-LITE,STANDARD,FINE and SUPERFINE (MPEG-1). Using the lite mode users can capture 82 minutes of MPEG MOVIE on a 128 MB Memory Stick(max 280 seconds per clip) before transferring it directly to their PC editing archiving or emailing. Price is said to be $4800 AUD you work it out in USD it makes me sick the AUD buys 48.56cents bsbd

1) Kit - anything that keeps everything hidden and tidy 2) I would suggest a dual teflon cable instead of a curve pin - cuts down the possibility of a premature even more! 3) Jump suit - I would suggest something real baggy all over - although it is much harder to learn in once you crack it your range of speed is much greater. - People may disagree with this though - its a matter of choice. 4) Canopy anything that you can fly - its nice to bang out some X-treme crew at the end of the dive with your mates and then hook it in! 5) Have fun & be safe, know your capabilities - dont rush anything. 6) Go hard, fast & Lo BSBD (FreeF) All Success.............

I have been looking into ground launching my canopy for a while and had some nice tips (I live near some very high swoopable hills) - would anyone here have any tips and tricks from experiences of ground launching that may help. I am aware of the basics of reverse launch and wind reaction to hills - but any info would be helpful. Also I have found some very steep hills - almost vertical - has anyone ground launched something similar? What height would you expect to drop to full presurisation from a 6 - 8 knot wind presurised canopy? or what is the possibilty of curl over from the 6 - 8 knot wind collapsing the canopy. Before I am flamed - coz its happened before - this indeed is very much doable taken the right way. Thanks in advance for all help.............. BSBD "Always go Hard, Fast & WayLo"

I would be interested to hear if anyone knows anyone / or has been either grounded long term / permanently. (Ideally UK jumpers but all info is welcome!) - If you are "permanently grounded" are there ways of appeal or time scales where you can re-apply for your licence - kinda like applying for parole from prison at set intervals. What are the reasons people have these long-term / permanent groundings for? Does it also mean you are unable to jump in other countries? Is it really a "non-fightable" cause - does it actually mean the real end of your skydiving? Just me being curious...................

Poster: skreamer Subject: Re: Bra Jump In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- its a shame that you did not want to take my contribution!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, that would've come in handy..... Get some gardening string sew it onto a blanket, tape a shirt to the end via some rope. Tie the strings to a ruck sack and stuff the shirt into your pocket - get a mate to take you in his microlight to approx 500ft - this is way high and takes ages to the ground - jump into a stable spread position - wait until something beeps in your ear then throw the shirt out the rest will follow........... easy see................. yep you have guessed it I am stuck at work and I am bored sh*tless........... let me outta this hell hole .............. I need some groundrush................. BSBD

Emma that was a funny weekend - great day and a fantastic night out - thanks to all the women in Bras around the DZ that day - its a shame that you did not want to take my contribution!!! - even though it is good for the skin................. BSBD

Im with ya man ...... I would have no problems getting out at 1,000ft on my main - as long as I had packed it and my Cypres was turned off - just incase it snivelled!! - to be honest as long as I had packed for it I would not have a problem going sub 1000...... People who would not get out at sub 2,000 whatcha goin' to do if you have an aircraft emergency at 1000ft an you need to get out - are you goin' to be so nervous you go unstable and get caught in your lines or are you just goin' to get outta the door and flick the PC knowing you have done it before........ I know what side I would rather be on! FreeFall Chimp guy ...Your "several" jumps from 500ft would that be something like a jump with a fox bar chance???......... ;op BSBD

I was not asking about changing the slider - i was after smoother fast openings - on normal packing i get very nice openings - I just wanted to know if partially collapsing the slider would help pressurise smoother with the faster opening - but your point about brakes is very interesting - I have line mods on my canopy - I have a sharper angle of attack and I also have very short brake lines - I only experience the rocking when I pack for fast openings though - on slow openings I do not experience this. Is there a reason for this? BSBD

So you basically throw around terms but can't explain the meanings - would that be right?? I have only ever heard this term mentioned and every time I ask no one can explain it (I have only heard Americans mention it on all accounts) - anyone care to explain? BSBD
-
I have heard of this a few times - would you mind elaborating on slider rebound...... BSBD

I think that even beats burning in. I was about to say goin' in whilst getting blown - but i think the BJ would take your mind off some Phuqkin awesome visuals.......... that would be a waste of groundrush............. BSBD

Why is this sort of question not allowed in here or something??? .......... will i be banished from the boards for mis-classified questions??.......... ;op BSBD
