  1. I have used Ice Fishing Gloves for the past 30 years I could get them from K-mart and Sports Authority, for $8.00. They are neoprene palms and come in sizes. I would get as small as possible for good gripping. It was fun to land and complain about my hands were sweating. The others were gripping about the cold.
  2. That reminds me of another similar joke. This guy comes home from work early. The kids are at Gramma.s ,its warm and his lovely wife is bent over getting clothes out of the dryer. Now he is getting hot he moves in behind her and starts playing with her butt and other things . He slides hershort shorts down and does her bent over. After moaning and groaning they finish. He then swats her ass as hard as he could. His wife asks why did you do that after such wonderful sex? His answer was "Because you never turned around to see who it was
  3. I remember a jump pilot say "No joy" to a controller, after being told" 78B you have traffic at your 9 oclock, type and altitude unknown. Obviously before encoding transponders. How about Kill the rabbit. It was a request to douse the HIRL {Strobe lights on the runway approach}. I had a Mesaba jet pilot say back to the controller He didnt have the jump plane I was flying in sight but he had me on his fish finder.
  4. Just a note on the battery sizes A Cr 2330 for instance means it is 23 mm in diameter and 3.0 mm thick. this works with alot of batteries out there. My self dimming welding helmet uses 3032 30 dia and 3.2 thick. meaning almost 1 1/4 by 1/8 th.
  5. As far as tandemsgo the Al Borland "Tool Time " goggles suck. They usually have a useless elastic band with 10 knota in it to tighten them. I would try to talk someone into regular goggles if at all possible. They would spend most of their jump holding them on. I have been wearing goggles over glasses for 41 years. the first few with ski goggles. but if yours get wrecked or lost in August your out of luck. I brought a pair of Croops into 4 glasses stores in my mall before I found some frames that would fit nice under them. I would never see those people again and it suited the purpose so embarassment didnt matter. If you got on board to jump and something got lost or broken the chances tha pilot has Al Borlands is almost impossible
  6. Does any one remember that Paul Newman had a son that was a skydiver with at least an S/L-I rating. He either died jumping or suicide, Late 70's I believe Perris or Elsinore area. Maybe 1000 jumps or more. In Slap-Shot he bet at ?:00 oclock a women would be walking through the bar door wearing a red dress. He won it was his ex-wife and she lived in that town. It might have been for an alimony check . My son gave me Cool Hand Luke DVD for my birthday present. I was probably the only one in the show when it came out that laughed when he sang "Plastic Jesus" on the banjo after his mother died.
  7. The sleeve appears to be a Danny Latchford of Midwest Parachute Sales in Novi Michigan styls. The actual function of Capewells was to be able to inter-change canopies and harnesses. The original system the harness became the risers, they led to solid links then the suspension lines sewn to the solid links. If you had a canopy land in a tree and damaged you threw away the whole thing. Vice versa a rig drug on the ground by high winds etc again pitch the whole thing. It was jumpers that came up with the cut-away. Some Navy pilot ejector seat rigs had a capewell on one side only. to help collapse the canopy in water landings They also had ejector hardware and sea-pockets. By the way Capewell was the name of the company that designed the system. One -Shots seldom did. You could bring them down as far as possible with your finger tips then reverse your hands and swat them with your palms. This helped if your Cross-Bow had the one riser only RSL. The "Vee" attachment on the side flap wasnt the usual reserve belly band connector . The regular was the utility and or life raft one with the straight cross piece truncating the "Vee".
  8. WKRP in Cincinatti {Bailey, Johnny Fever etc} Soap {The Major ,Chuck & Bob, etc} Cheers { Norm What are you up to? reply "My usual weight if I was 7 foot 3 Rowan and Mattins "Laugh In" {Goldie Hawn etc} Fraiser { Roz getting lucky, Niles slamming Fraser in the coffee shop , Martin getting shot in the butt on duty as a cop. Lillith} Two and 1/2 men Simpsons Police Squad
  9. We had a frail old POPS Meet jumper in Sandusky Michigan. His wife over tightened his leg atrap for him and actually had the pouch trapped in the hardware. He whistled real low and finally fired hie reserve.A friend was on the jump as a team member caught him upside down as it was the only way he could fly. His spine curvature was so bad it was that was his only position. Louie turned him over and thought he might have dislocated his shoulders. He watched him struggle in freefall until his reserve time
  10. In the Old3 picture that could be Mike Johnston in the SST prepull-out pilot chute.in red and black. He was with the Jump Shack before going to USPA. He toured with Jack Gregory doing AFFI courses then too before going to Deland. Bob Branch owned a DC-3 out of Indiana that also toured Boogies. He was also with Exitus {Evcite-us} a four state team.
  11. I had a BOC whatever year the "Swing-Wing jump suit came out, I had a "Wonder-Hog " that had the PC on a belly band. Moshers jump suit had you wearing your leg straps inside .I am guessing late 70,s. My son says 1977 was the first "Star-Wars" and Eddies ad had a jumper with a "Darth Vader " mask on. Does any one remember the Wonder-Hog" wiith the PC pouch that went on the front of the right leg strap, as the step in harness had the tensioner on the back side?
  12. I saw your first two night jumps at the Tiki bar at summer fest. It was clever not to wear clothes that way you wouldnt get them dirty if you landed off by a rail. Then adding a water jump to it. I especially liked the track off the steps to retrieve your wallet. It must have been hard to carry one with no clothes. Seems like you did a pretty good ground scan before you got up.It was not only videoed but has a T-shirt to prove it. Stay sober when you finally do it.
  13. I went 4968 in 19 years 6 months on my own gear I packed.I did have 15 tandems that I didnt pack were cutaways and two of those were back to back. I only had one on a P.C. none on my Delta 11 none on rags. Now we are getting down to nitty gritty 30 plus on Ropes and Rings Para Planes. My Unit # 26 and I parted company 20 plus times. The only ones with RSL's were the Tandems
  14. I agree solid nose color and alternating stripes front to back. It looked just like my blue and white one. The OSI with one nose line out from the rest .If it was in color it would be blue. Mine at one time belonged to "Big Bill Weber". He only cut it away, I would do stand -ups in the Peas just to piss him off. Both of mine had the British Army mods and the last wrap on the OSI cut off and the velcro re-sewn. 127 with never a cut-away, I relined it to Para-Dactyl lines it never flew good again . I could out fly Strato-Stars for speed and distance and landing too. Ah yes I remember it well, I still like my Sabre 11 better
  15. In 1967 it was $3.00 to 3500 then $0.50 per 1000 after that. We had C-172 and C-182. They still had the back seat still in. There wasnt much RW but it suited Style and Accuracy nuts just fine, A twin Beech was a luxury and a DC-3 Priceless.
  16. The guy singing it Weighed about 350 pounds and played a ukelele. It looked like it was a postage stamp on the side of a semi-trailer. The song and the National Anthem were played back to back. It was said it was Eloys wake up call before coming to Quincy too.By the way you could tell who were veterans, because we alone stopped talking stood up and saluted when our Anthem was played My personal favorite was by Simon and Garfunkle "Like a bridge over troubled waters" as it was played at a dear friends funeral. It brings back many memories . With a tear and a grin going at the same time.
  17. The band you are talking about is "Rare Earth" from Detroit. Formerly known as the "Sunliners". Pete the drummer went to Cooley High School and graduated in 1961 while I graduated in 1960. It was strange to see them set up in the hangar at Freakport, Il. All of the members jumped and were trained by Rogers crew. The "Booze Brothers" had a little trio attached to them but I cant recall the name. I am sure someone will help out. Just had a flash back. It might be something like the "Hey Boys or brothers.
  18. If memory serves me correctly "Dont Make Waves" is the movie that Bob Boquoer{Bad spelling, but the SCR-SCS guy] dies in while filming. It was believed he drown after landing in the ocean.I thought it was once reported that no water was found in his lungs and he was limp in his harness breaking his neck on opening. The weight of all the cameras whip lashed him. I remember a motorized Nikon F was over 14 lbs to only take 35mm. pictures. I have an N-2 Corsair gunsight camera. shooting 16mm movies with 24 volt waist belt battery pack. That camera type shot air to air combat scenes for TV series like "Ba Ba Black Sheep
  19. Happy f$%*@ng birthday to you happy f$%*@ng birthday to you Get plastered you bas#$rd Happy f$%*@ng to you Now that all nice things are taken care of. Do I get to give you a birthday kiss for each year, whereever I want? Or you could pick a spot or two. You have nothing but good ones all over your body. I could be a lousy counter and we would have to start over alot OK.Trying to get all the way up to 24 or so. Love you and I"ll be up all night thinking about you, and I"ll have to get ahold of myself Sir Laurence of Hamtramck AKA Never forget Whasisname
  20. The actual song is give me cracked corn and I dont care. Cracked corn was a luxury food of the owner and the slave was in defiance of his owner. He would probably get whipped if the owner found out.
  21. I remember seeing that at a show when the kids were small, That was a GAF- Nomad from down under somehwere A friend got to jump one and said it was as slow as a Islander or C-206 type but it would be fun to add to the log book By the way check out "Beach Blanket Bingo" with Annette Fullof jello and Frankie Avalon. About mid 70,s. Also Rock Hudson in his police chief series. When he lands you can see the shadow of the hoop that drops the canopy around him while doing a stand-up on a rag
  22. To get completely off the subject. I noticed the U-206 That is one of the nicest floater bars I have ever seen. Tried to concentrate but was there also a step under the door . I have seen boat handles under the co-pilot window to get on the right main and strut. We had a 206 in Saginaw that had a milling machine vise handle bolted on top big enough for 2 hands and trying to put 3 jumpers out was a pain. I also tried to convince the owner to get a "0" or #1Phillips screw driver to pull the yoke handle to face the co-pilot jumper rearward. Didnt happen in 15 years. He did have a sliding door that only took 4 jumpers to gat up. Could you post some pictures of the plane .It might convince more DZO's to get one. There was a Video at early Quincy days they showed at night of a tandem passenger paying a guitar that was pretty good. Thanks ahead for any effort you might come up with
  23. As far as I remember A roman candle was at Streamer caused by the locking stows on the flap of the short or long sleeve not coming un-stowed, There was also canopy dump when the packing{crown} lines let the canopy slide to the bottom of the sleeve. This sort of things were rare as I never had them happen on 1500 Para-commander and 150 rag jumps. It was one of those things for worriers to come up with like having an old and new tube-stow on your closing flap. Am I going to open in a spinning line twist or at all.
  24. The #5 is for belly warts as stated. You put the hooks in the slot where the fabric passed through. Again back then you had to pack everything on a "40foot table" You did the opposite side while facing the table .The loop hung down between you and the table. You simply put your foot in it and stepped down while supporting the reserve. After you put in a temporary pin then 180,d the reserve and did the second flap. I used one similar to it Midwest Parachutes in Novi Mi around 1974 for a year. Dirty Dan the Parachute man was getting a little rail for anything more than 12OZ curls of Colt-45,s. The other ones look like a similar thing. They could be used like brake shoe return springs. If any one still remembers brake shoes.
  25. I remember Tiger Woods having about 35 jumps months ago
