We do a hit an chug on our last jump of the day. its somthing like A pops Hit and Rock. We have a small traffic cone target . 90 degrees from it off the wind line is a one person tramboline exercise unit.with beer under neath it.. You land and the clock starts get out of your gear touch the cone plop down on the matt grab a beer and chug it for best time . I can usually win until the chug part.Beer like sex should be enjoyed not for speed . The winners probably dont get many second dates. If you know any Canucks that have been around a while about Dead Ants. Fun but painful. It depends on your area pumpkin bombing is fun too.No cleanup the deer will have it spotless.and farmers pissed cuz now the know what them big orange things are for.We have played flaming soccer or volleyball ( depends on the degree of drunkiness) You soak a roll of toilet paper in AV Gas or JET-A light it and kick it around . Your not having fun until you call 911. Creeper bowling with a guy with a helmet on thrown at plastic jugs in the 10 pin location, can usually bring on the blood. sorry I just read the stuff about being safe.

Always remember Wiley Post and Connie Kalitta Drag racer both got their pilots licenses from an insurance settlement for getting an eye poked out. One still goes 250plus on a dragster. I always enjoyed Will's sayings. Still on of my favorites is the POPS thought "You dont qiut Skydiving because you get old you get old because you quit Sky diving". Keep in mind "any day above gound is a good one . any day way above ground like 14000 is even better. My main philosophy is "i will grow older but I'll never grow up.

One of his other great lines after the other sheriff was knocked into the river bed with the bridge out. " You sounded a lot taller on the radio ". Also not a direct qoute " When Junoir gets up in the morning and makes Pee pee and shaves without hurting himself we call that a miracle" . My wife hates movies like Airplane ,Blazing Saddles Naked Gun etc etc. The govenors name in Blazing Saddles is fart in French, so Mel Brooks I was the only one laughing in the show who knew. Hot Shots Part Deux had great scenes too..Cool Hand Luke sang Plastic Jesus when he found out his mother died.Again the only one in the show roaring.Wanted to share this with you .

To begginers who wants to buy new canopy!!
lekstrom10k replied to stayhigh's topic in Gear and Rigging
Is this is a new jumper with a brand new canopy dont. you can as already stated buy a low jump chute from someone else that is down sizing, not because its a lemon they are dumoing. As with new cars once the ignition key is turned its used and you lost $3000 .Dont get outrageous colors that only you could like,if you must buy new. . As far as packing always remember you have to be smarter than your equipmant. kneel and tuck one side then stuff the other etc etc . IT will only get easier the more jumps on it. Get some one who does pack for their opinion (the bag is way to small ) etc etc -
After being in the sport a few years I found the best ones seemed to be where you personally copied a statement (I riealize this is a dangerous sport Blah Blah. How could they say I never read it complety if its in their own writing It worked well with the student written final test. "I didnt know what toggles were thats why I flew into the hanger".Keep in mind no waiver is bullet proof .But cover your Butt as well as you can. Some lawyers pride themselves on loop holes . EG the women and the coffe cup at Mcdonalds , The guy who got up with his motor home on cruise control to make a sandwich. Always rember the difference between a dead skunk and a dead lawyer in the road is there are skid marks in front of the skunk. Its hard to believe but USPA can help. Dont let anyone jump without one.

We used to jump at Salem Airport Michigan in 1972-76. The controllers at Detroit Approach Control prided themselves on how many they counted flying to the formation, they only got confused when we launched a two ir three way. If you look at a flight chart and see a magenta circle (pink) around an airport with numbers near it . Thats telling you the bottom of their visibilty range. and they cant see you Scud Run there, it veries with ground clutter. If they could do it then imagine now.

It seems the only thing you have done is split it tnto two two-ways with an invisible line that doesnt mean a thing. What ever happened to a 180 to the right track like hell ,look wave and pull. It works on almost any formation except compressed accoprdians etc, where you should have planned it on your dirt dive. I know of only one person that said" Dont ever go on the first load ,if you have to track for the DZ no matter what". He was an AFFIE how could he have the nerve at his ratings. The way I said will always get you horizontal seperation , add vertical and no one is close. Hope this helps

Line dancingwas invented because bar owners(Honky -Tonks} complained about cow boys coming in with cow shit { meadow -muffins } on their boots. Thet would stomp their boots side step stomp again . side step the other way two times the distance stomp again, until cleaner. Then drink Lone Star until they have the uncontrobable urge to smash the bottle over someones head. That was agood night then.I know its true cuz I saw it on TV

Most interesting out landing?
lekstrom10k replied to Hazarrd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would have to say after a cutaway I chased my free bag becayse they are harder to find later. .As I was about to land next to it in a fenced in enclosure I noticed alot of ant hills .After picking up my free bag I heard some pawing and snorting, I turned to see a bull with his head down telling me Iwasnt welcome. I climbed over an electrified Very sharp barb wire fence ,as in the movies just in the nick of time. I found out then I must have dropped my reserve handle there .I walked back in search of it. TO no avail but I did find the ant hills were actually Bull shit eroding. This is not as I still have scars to prove it going over the fencr. -
It is not really a reserve handle it is a cross pull back pack. Possibly Navy with the cable going through the diagonal tube like an NB6 or 8 emergancy type from the late 50s or 60s.

Did you try Para -Gear .They used to have made up sets. They might still have some in storage. Can you patch up the old ones with gutted 550 as they are only for packing. Its a little late for the convention, Also call Steve Stewart at Wayne County Skydiving at Richmond In. He has the ability to make them and there are quite a few PCs there to model from. There is usually an all rag load at the Boogie except for the rain this year. Hope this helps

The origonal reason for them was for a four line release without cutting the lines . It worked well until some Canadian jompers had them freeze on them. The original four line cut was scrapped because replacing the whole line It wnet from the rear riser to the skirt then inside to the apex then down to the opposite akirt and down to the connecter link.. They finally over came this with a bright red loop you pulled to undue a daisy chain release of the two lines each side. Now you had steering lines with out reaching so far. The 24foot was the last to get Tri-Vent modification, which did away with oscillation and non steerable problems. I spent a lot of time under 23footTri-Conical , 26foot navy and my favorite 26 Strong LoPo trying to get my Baby Plane and Unit to open Hope this helps.
-
I always used gutted 550 line it works just fine . As far as the knot use a figure eight knot also known as a stopper knot .My pull up cord is the same if you break one in the field you can always make a new one with your hook knife. If you have seen the double loop on a RWS tandem , its flat and white other than the manufactures color code ,.It was from crown lines of a Paracommander.Hope this helps
-
After making a few tandems my self, I would say the guy was a real lousy instructor. What ever happened to head back arms in or crossed , legs between the TM and above all arch . Also ther would be no way they could exit turn and look up in the estimated 8 feet below the door.. I dont know how to enlarge the picture but it seems the kids rig has capewells and no upper snaps to the missing tandem rings. where is the student handle and drogue handle . The funniest I ever saw was The Pretender show where they went out the left side of a Cardinal sitting on the floor. He had an Orca on the front ,no upper attachments and no main risers. Then the AFF trainign gotas comical as Fandango. Just for grins watch the waiver video for RWS. Check Bills altimeter Before the exit ,its 8500 It was three jumps to do it also when he and Ron exit on the first jump watch Rons hands fly out for a Jesuson the cross no arch . The camera scene was from a later jump to cover it. Check the small print on the sales slip from a new tandem where it says RWS can confiscate the rig if not being used properly. What was the first screw up in Drop Zone .? Hint when the turbine Porter Backfired. Other than that enjoy being put on, do you want to buy some nice ocean view property in Iowa Ihave for you?

Bob was at The Eichmond Boogie Labor Day week end standing in the rain like everyone else. He showed me his zipper from the staples across his chest .He was in good spirits and we chatted for a while in his van ,I asked if it was alright to give the phone number for his sisters place we had at Napoleon Sky Diving Center when he jumped there a few months ago. He said it would be OK . I also have her adress. She has cancer and it might be better to send a letter so as not to upset the household. If any onr wants it let me know. I can also print it on here easier as I am new to this cofuser stuff.

The only other places near Sturgis was Athens and Three Rivers as boogie type jump places in that era.Marshall had a Beech 18 as did Austin Lake . Steve Fellows had Lodestar out of Detroit City and Pontiac whom ever he owed the least amount of money. There was also a Locheed 12 at Salem Airport that went to Athens and Sturgis. Bob Branch would bring his DC3 to all of them. If it was Fellows Lodestar it was most noted for oneway trips and stranding jumpers. Nate Pond used to fly for Fellows from the east coast. Ialways thought Bill Carl and Roger had more sense than fly with Fellows. As far as jumping together .I purely doubt that we havent some where down the line I did all the Hinckley, and Lima Leapfest too . The one in Gary IN when the Twin Beech lost it on take off and they cut off Sky Huminsky new gear. I was one of those Damn Parahawks from Salem and later Marine City . The beech nuts from Austin Lake was always there too. They ended merging into Exitus or better known as Excite us. Sherman Rocky Sandy Reed Ken Coleman to name a few. I did all Freakport too. Ill be at richmond Thursday in the load organizer tent the whole time ,or doing disgusting lewd vulgar things at the fireand beer . Same old same old different state.

The main wild party you might be refering to was when our USPA board of directors trashed the Holiday Inn getting skull numbers off Ottleys head.It was a Boggie first , then a boogie as my now long gone T-shirt used to say from 72. USPA had the nationals there a few times, but the weather didnt help . The Okies cried for them to go back there "It might be blowing 35 knots and we would still be jumping ,but we arent being rained on" Thanks to the great job by Steve and Janie we got our great boogie back. I have been to all of them and hope to be for a long time to come.

You definitely have a Mk2 so you still wouldnt get the effect of the short line . They went back to MK1s in 1968 with the red baron , church window etc etc. They made MK 2, during Viet Nam and only succeded in having Airborne troops running into each other on their drifts off to infinity . So they went back to T-10s so now they only had to find earth by gravity. One of the uses for the hook knife was to rip out the data panel to make it fly like a MK1 and destroy evidence it was stolen from the army. The only real problem was it was stil Olive Drab . Iave over 1500 on all PCs except the 23 Russian didnt want to land that hard, Even a 32 Jumbo. Istill have a 1964 Golden Knights Gold and Black. I brought it to Rantoul three years ago, Most didnt know what it was or would jump it. It still works fine. Paraplanes and PCs only came in one size fits all for many years, it was always fun to running to a buddy and say" if you are going to hit that hard why waste your time pulling" . They all had different personalities I had three I jumped all landed different too. So much for nostalgia. Going to Richmond in two weeks might see you there.

If you are jumping a U-206 and dont have an STC for 6 jumpers, shame on you .Does your pilot really want to play squat tag on fire hydrants if and when he gets out of jail.FAA just loves to fry pilots that didnt know it was illrgal. Fayard has all that info ,Even our USPA has one for C-182s for only $20. Always remember its hard to jump if you dont have a plane or pilot. We had an incident where we were on take off and hadnt cleared the departure end of the runway,At less than 200 feet [researched] I wont mention his name but his initials start with Victor actually undid his seat belt and went to the back of the Caravan and slide the door open too. He denied this in front of the other 15 jumpers that saw it.Needless to say that was his last jump at our place and a few other DZs locally If you think about it FAA gave us the right to self regulate and they can take it away as easily.
-
Being a Michigan winter jumper, usually you could see the peas while the rest of the dz was snow covered maybe because the stones absorbed the heat The only thing you didnt know was that it refroze and you now had a stone popcicle to throw your butt at down wind Owie Owie Owie. As a friend once said about down wind accuracy you sure learned to miss a whole lot closer. It kind of disproves the drains well part to a degree

I agree with the designations, SCR was all free flown . But as always for the beer , some places would launch an AFF graduate in a four way against the rules and the trail plane four would dock. It was an ego boost for your buddys to say your ready for your SCS, also for the beer, but you didnt care they believe in me I am somebody . There werent that many places where you could all jump out of the same plane when it started.. SCR2333 SCS1346 NSCR455

The first time I ever heard HIM was in 1968, A friend of mine explained to me it was from the Airborne Mess halls in Fort Bragg N.C. in1964 and sooner . If you did something profoundly stupid and expected sympathy like hooking up a canopy backwards etc etc. .The whole 1500 to 2000 guys there would show you how they felt. He said the first HIM took about 5 seconds all in harmony the second the same, then the rest like we do now. It wasn't a speed contest By the way it was all round canopies then and actually possible to do. Delta 2 and Paradactyl were noted for it as you pack it nose right or left not down.

The name came from Louis Nye during a man on the street interview. He would say HIHO STEVRINO. Also interviewed was Tom poston and Don Knotts, as the nevous man .Nothing to be ashamed of as it was a very funny skit. Long before Laugh-In, but after Ernie Kovacs. the ultimate of outrageous humor

The name of the band was RARE EARTH originally from Detroi ,Mi.They were once the Sunliners inre to the Ford retractable hardtop 1957 to1959. Roger had them all jumping at Freeport It was strange to see them there ,as I had graduated from Cooley high in1960 .Pete the drummer was from the 1961 class.Whodathunk it in the middle of Illinois to see those guys again in a hanger playing away. I would oQuotef had FB#52 , only Carl didnt have a pen I had to wait until the next year at the Hinckley 8-way scrambles to get 128
