  1. From Marine city Mi we took off at -20 for an all day of demo jumps into Perch Point Conservation Club. I was part of the first four. We landed in two feet of snow fitting of the "Winter Carnival" .We packed on the wet floor inside ready to go again. The manager brought over beer . !! pitchers later we were asked to leave as we never jumped again . No Banquet tickets no gambling rights etc. Guess we didnt fullfill our obligations.I made many winter jumps but that was the coldest. It took longer to pre-heat and pre-flight than the whole time off the ground
  2. There are a few on our DZ ,we call the Crayon Boxes for on ground Tandem student friends watching. To me BFD
  3. Take the last wrap off the OSI and re velcro it there. plus the English "Red Devils Steering mod.I never cut mine away in 120 ytries .
  4. That was definitely not a Delta II as they had an OSI and no slider and no steering flap, If you think it is one do you want to buy some nice ocean view property in Iowa or the Brooklin Bridge?
  5. You have to remember that the guy giving you all his crap might have less jumps than you or only a few more.If you do better than him he looses face and his self imposed hero status. Come to our DZ and you get on a load without the egos.
  6. At one time I had 3PC's 2 Delta II's and3 Para Planes all set to go lined up. I would jump them all then start packing to do it again. All had their own traits, opening and landing etc between their own kinds. I had fased out all my Rags by then. I never cutaway any Pc in 1500 jumps or my Delta II's at 120 jumps. Para Planes were another story {Ropes and Rings}.
  7. I saw one for "Iron-Clad Cardinal" it was a sewer pipe with a plate and handle welded on. The mug seems sissy as in picking up a glass and more than a thumb and one finger tip touch your busted.Of course you werent told until you flipped it over on the last sip.The agony of defeat and drunk as hell
  8. We used to jump a 411 iI believe out of West Virginia athe Richmond and Lima. Quite similar though. He flew the Checkerboard tail Twin Beech before that. He got a cargo door installed after we jumped it. He said it liked the runway too much and wasnt fond of the fuel consumption either .It might be worse now fuel is much more expensive. Just a thought to bring to mind
  9. epperel is close too. Go to Fanual {SP} Hall with the brass grasshopper. There was a huge store that just sold mustard. Down the hall for raw oysters, etc. Up the shore is Gortons fish factory.Plymouth Rock too. I was stationed at Fort Devens in 1962 and got a chance to wander about
  10. There was a post on here at least a year ago that had a step and great floater bar to the bottom of the rear window for video floatersThere was even a step over the tire. It was "playing my trumpet in freefall" It was from Germany so our STC types might not transfer. Paul Fayard 's old company or Joe Weber of Skydive Oregon might help. The handle can come off the yoke but the shaft is a problem.Good luck
  11. It would be very obvious with the pennies where it came from. I only heard of course you can slide a nickle up your roof with your finger tips ,lift up its gone they will never know what hit them or from where. As the saying goes "Ouch thats going to leave a mark".
  12. Tonight on National Geographic at 9:00 EST there is a documentory on Skyjacking . It is centering around DB Cooper ,one scene shows a square canopy landing at night. DB jumped a non -steerable 28 foot round . He also had a "Do not jump"training reserve stuffed with rags. They also have DNA to solve the mystery. It ought to be hilarious. record it so when you burst out laughing you can back up and do it again. It will be like the 3:58 second freefall in "Point Bleak"
  13. Mantas were 280 -9cells, I put 2000 on one with no new line sets It worked fine and PD wanted to see it Quincy and Rantual. Mine came de -tuned , jump it once and see how far your toggles come down before the steering lines take out the slack. !0 or 12 inches is easy you can move your toggles that much and have no problems. Mine be came any time any altitude canopy.I bought it when the economy was shit as now it got me through it I now love my last three Sabres.
  14. A C-195 shouldnt take much for an STC as its only door off as stated in AC 105 as a plane not requiring any mods. Its like jumping a CU-206. No floater bars or steps sit side by side and tip forward.Florida had a mounted jump step and a floater handles. Have fun with it and chreish it as its expensive to operate, fell blessed you got to do it
  15. We used to use a water pipe insulating tube.It had a split length wise with the hollow for the pipe.It was cheap as i/2 or 3/4 size as needed easily cut to length. As with the swimming tube in various colors etc it was never out of season. The tube could be rolled on rather than slid over the top angle ed out part of the brace. If it was to tight use the next size up. We nad a U-206 in Saginaw that the pilot called its stopper the "Dildo" ,we would pass to him just before "Door"
  16. AS others have said a hobby store has spring steel wire in all sizes . We have Lobby Hobby in MI It is used in control cables and in bigger sizes landing gear wire. Some packs have two wire that are srtraight at 12 inches longfor 50 cents. I have used dowel rod or even broom sticks Put two small holes about 040 through it cross ways .Bend the wire over a ruler for a u-turn stuff the free ends thru the holes .Bend inat 90 then the secon bend to stuff them back down the holes to lock. the hole work best at 5/16 c/ls
  17. I jumped an all silk 28 foot navy with a 5tu cut in it in 1973 .It was actually older than me made in april 1942 me August 8 1942. I told my darling wife to take as many pictures as possible as it would be the only time ever in the air she got one at line collapse on landing. I thought i was going to kiss my ankles on landing. That was beyond firm and was glad I only got out at 3500. It was worth it though .I still have a Golden Knights 1965 PC I jump ocassionally
  18. I remember Dead Ants from Bergie of Windsor while jumping at Simcoe Ontario as St Thomas Parachute Club. Ever wonder wether Dead Ants or under skilled newbies with small canopies caused more pain. It was all self induced so sympathy wasnt much of a factor. Tecumseh has a Hellfish Party each year with the Kap -3. It usually starts sitting on the floor in a circle. Less distance to fall and less chance of missing the puke bucket that wiil be used by everybody
  19. I just started reading comments about the PC. As i recall you have a Mark-2 from 1968 ,they went back to Mark-1's after that . Yours had no drive hole it was easily remidied with a hook knife I still have a 1965 golden knights PC ,it flies great. I never jump a 23 ft Russian, but did jump all 24's mark1 ,2 and 3 plus the 27 ft Russian 28 ft jumbo and 32 ft jumbo, also the RW for a total of 1500 on them 120 on rags and 120 on Delta II's
  20. I totally agree. Hallmark Holidays only make Don Kerlins family happy. What the fuck is "Grand parents who cant visit the grandkids because of a court order day" really all about. If I dont have something by now 68 I probably dont want it.Dont buy me a chartruse wool scarf. If you must get me something a jump ticket on my account any where is always the perfect size and the color is just right
  21. The family is much better with this confuser than me. I will have them scanning today and they know how to send it or copy .I can send the picture and list of names that I have ASAP
  22. I have a picture of your Dad from 02 -15 70 At Pontiac Mi.Bill Keating arranged for the first DC-3 jumps in Michigan I made all the jumps into Oxford that day. Bill called around and got your Dad and friends to come from Ohio. I can get a copy made if you like. Pete Myks Lou Schroeder Jerry Marklin Ted Pullum Connie Crowton ,a few from Saginaw too. I started jumping on 09-08-1967 after hearing a jumper say "Start now FAA is going to get real strict" So i did
  23. I had one baby-plane and 4 para-planes . If you de-taped the para-plane it would fit anything a PC could go into. I made a machine to cut and mark new lines all at the same tension.I still contend other than a STC for 4 jumpers in a C-182. A slider was the best thing to happen to sky diving. The kids today would have quit if one out of 20 jumps was a cutaway. Stabalizer panels We dont need no stinking stabalizer panels. I'll see Randy Allison on Wednesday and can tell him "HI" from you if you want. He met you at Orange this year
  24. Hi Jack , Were on the ground so I can say it. In case you were wondering who Moon beam Mc Swine was , She was from Al Capps cartoon" Lil Abner". Did you ever get to see Jack Rousch's P-51 when he came to Napoleon? He also brought out AT-6's. I won a ride with him for the P-51 but gave it away as I cant stand the stubby little fuck. I'll always hate the guy who saved him 2 or 3 crashes ago. I was involved bussiness wise with him
