Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
HeadCone replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know about chickens but turkeys didn't work out too well for WKRP: "It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this!" --Les Nessman --Head -- Turn off the internet! Ok, perhaps I'm the one being daft but I still don't understand how your response above jives with "I am not advocating easy access to abortion as a form of convenient birth control." Who, besides the government, makes access to abortion not easy? Why should she think about it at all? She doesn't want to be pregnant and abortion cures that. What else matters? Maybe this isn't you, but there's a position on abortion that goes like this: I don't really care for abortion and I wouldn't do it myself, but I wouldn't take that away from someone else. I realize there are some things in life that people don't like but wouldn't want to see made illegal. I don't understand how abortion is one of those things. --Head -- Turn off the internet! You're letting a woman decide her own fate, but you did say that you're "not advocating easy access to abortion as a form of convenient birth control". Why can't a woman have easy access to abortion as a form of convenient birth control? If abortion is legal, why put in arbitrary stumbling blocks to it? --Head -- Turn off the internet! This is what I can't understand. If something is legal, then it's legal and people should be able to do it without arbitrary stumbling blocks. I don't understand how abortion can be at the level of badness that you kind of want to make it hard for woman to do indiscriminately, but not impossible. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
HeadCone replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm not raging mad about this by no means, but I'd say that skydive didn't need to happen. I'm sure bouncing around in the turbulence and the opening shock was no fun for that thing. As for the post-jump demeanor, that's hard to read. It wasn't running around like crazy just trotting away when someone got close (like they normally do, I guess). So maybe it was no worse for the wear. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Join Citizens United Negating Technology For Life And People's Safety! http://www.citizensunitednegatingtechnology.org/ -
I believe that the development of human life starts at conception. That actually seems to me that it should be an obvious fact. However, I think there's a big difference in wrongness in aborting just after conception versus just before birth (except for medical reasons). That would mean that, yes, I think there's a timeframe when it's ok to terminate a developing human life. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
HeadCone replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I haven't seen the video, but I'd say yes this is cruelty. It seems to me it would be pretty uncomfortable (or probably painful) for the chicken to have a 120mph wind blown at it for a minute or so. What was the post-jump demeanor of the chicken? --Head -- Turn off the internet! Pro-life. I do, however, recognize the difference between just after conception and just before birth. Somewhere between the two there's a point where, afterwards, an abortion should only happen in case of medical necessity. Defining where this point is and why seems to be the big problem and I don't have a good answer. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Ok, so it’s a matter of likelihood. I believe I understand where you’re coming from. That makes sense to me. However, I’m not sure that’s really the case or how much that even matters, but I’ll have to ponder it awhile before giving a better reply. This would be the next conundrum. If a complex/sophisticated ordering of matter can have spontaneous or eternal existence, why not God and vice versa. The reason I entered into this thread is three-fold. One was to point out the problem of saying that one thing can have spontaneous/eternal existence while another can’t. Another is that it had potential to give me a better understanding as to why some atheists adamantly state “there is no god”. It has done that and I appreciate the civil replies. Thank you. The third is to make the comment that it’s not silly or crazy to believe that God exists. It’s just a different way of looking at things. I know there are theists out there that push their religion hard and end up being offensive and insulting, but it works both ways. Some, certainly not all, atheists make comments like “magic man in the sky” (and they get worse) which are also offensive and insulting. --Head -- Turn off the internet! This is a point that's a problem for both theists and atheists. Is it or is it not possible for something to either have always existed or come into existence out of nothing? --Head If it is possible for God to have always been, then why not the stuff that makes up the universe? If it is possible for God to have suddenly popped up from nothing, then why not the stuff that makes up the universe? Those are great questions for theists. Since the topic of discuss is the origin of God, these are great questions for atheists: If it is possible for the stuff that makes up the universe to have always been, then why not God? If it is possible for the stuff that makes up the universe to have suddenly popped up from nothing, then why not God? --Head -- Turn off the internet! As opposed to leaping into existence for no particular reason? Is it or is it not possible for something to either have always existed or come into existence out of nothing? -- Turn off the internet! Pft. As soon as someone bags Rosie O'Donnell, this record will never be broken. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Join Citizens United Negating Technology For Life And People's Safety! http://www.citizensunitednegatingtechnology.org/

I guess I'm a bit naive. I was happy to see Dreamz win the immunity because I really thought he was going to keep his word and thought it would be cool to see him hand it over. I found it disappointing that Jeff Probst kept making him out to be a good guy. He may have grown up poor and uneducated, but he's not stupid. He's a con. As for Yau-Man, I hope he gets a chance at something else like a truck or even a million like Rupert did. --Head -- Turn off the internet! They serve a good purpose, but they're all business. If you're going 80 in a 65, you're taking your chances no matter what the normal speed is or how many cars are around you. I've been in a similar situation and it sucks ass. But, if they didn't do that, people would really drive like assholes (even more than they do now). --Head -- Turn off the internet! From http://www.travelsense.org/tips/specialitems.asp Alcoholic Beverages You cannot take alcoholic beverages with more than 70 percent alcohol content (140 proof), which includes grain alcohol and high-proof rums like Bacardi 151, in your carry-on or checked luggage. As for alcohol under 70 percent, you may take up to five liters per person in your checked luggage if it’s packaged in a sealable bottle or flask. I think above 140 proof is considered a flammable liquid which isn't something to take lightly for air travel. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Anytime I've ever done that it was because I was typing too fast and sent the message without bothering to go back and proofread (or I did and missed it). I've never done that on purpose. --Head -- Turn off the internet! Join Citizens United Negating Technology For Life And People's Safety! http://www.citizensunitednegatingtechnology.org/

What's happened to me a few times is this. I come back out from wherever and start walking toward my vehicle, but I can't find it right away because someone in a large SUV is blocking my view of it until get almost right to it. There's been more than one time where actually started thinking someone might have stolen it. --Head -- Turn off the internet!
