  1. I got my undergrad degree in genetics, So i am a little biased. But, what it boils down to for me , is a ball of cells (about 64 to a few hundred) worth the pain and suffering of a person with a fully developed nervous system( and more importantly a developed life with family and such)? It is unfortunate we cant use adult stem cells, but they are already differentiated(they are on the road to what there are going to be and well past the point of no return) I know many believe it is the destruction of life, but it remains a ball of cells with potential. In a tube, it will never grow to a human. The maturation in a mother is essential, and there is more to life than the initial chemical reaction. It is sad, but i think pragmatically, the suffering person wins over the cells We are a few years away from practical applications, but they will be here. stem cells are the foundation that built you, with the right manipulation, they can repair you. Also on a side note, Fertilisation clinics destroy the extra embryos fairly often, why not use those instead of autoclaving them? Anyway, thats my opinion, I dont know how i got into this forum, just wanted to read about my new hobby ( if ican find some money and time)Quote
  2. Hi all, need some advice about whether or not to start my training. Did a tandem at the end of June, loved it, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was back the next weekend and took the first jump course and did 2 static line jumps. I had way more fun then the tandem. (Hanging off the strut of the 182 was a bit terrifying, but aside from that it was absolutely awesome). So three weekends have come and gone and I haven’t had time to get back. At best, I get 1 weekend a month. I’m a med student, so there is no fixing the schedule. My question is can I successfully do this one weekend a month. I can strech my loans to pay for it, im so far in debt, it doesn’t matter, but I don’t have more time. Can you be a good and safe skydiver jumping that infrequently, or should I put it on the shelf for 8 years till I maybe have free time? Thanks all, if nothing else, I got to experience a bit of the best sport ever.
  3. Hi all, ive never posted before, but I thought I’d offer myself up as a case study on this topic. I did a tandem at the end of June and absolutely fell in love. Went back the next week and took the SL course, and had even more fun, and hope to do a few more jumps before the end of summer But now im stuck, I get about one weekend a month off( I’m a med student, so tweaking the schedule is almost impossible), and this seems to be a weekend only sport around here. I cant imagine spending the amount of money to maybe jump once a month if the weathers good. My jumps so far has been off loans,(don’t tell the federales) Also, this seems like a skill to commit to, being barley current seems like a good way to up the likelihood of a bounce. Anyway, hopefully ill be back in a few years, Till then I remain a jealous Whuffo Blue skies Pete
