Improving my S-Fly Access Flying
mnskydiver688 replied to Titanium_Gecko's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I got some of my lowest fallrates on cloud jumps when i was concentrating on getting to different places on the cloud and making it to the end of a canyon without touching the bottom. That inadverntantly helped me change my state of mind when it comes to lower vertical speeds and how to achieve them. I guess it was something that I had to experience to really understand. Gotta love learning through doing... Instead of reading. You know what that means, jump more! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Why is static line a dying discipline?
mnskydiver688 replied to kmills0705's topic in Safety and Training
I have a hard time completely agreeing with the first statement. I think with AFF students it really depends on their experiences after they are cleared for solo's. If they just go out and screw around from 7 to 25, what have they really improved on? Is the AFF system setup in such a way to have a better chance of being a better flyer at 25 jumps? Yes. Do students always stay diligent in the task of learning something new on every jump? Not always. Disclaimer: I know very little. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Why is static line a dying discipline?
mnskydiver688 replied to kmills0705's topic in Safety and Training
The experience with S/L can also vary quite a bit even at the same DZ. I ended up having two distinct S/L progressions. My first try I made 14 jumps in about a month. I got to full altitude and hit a plateau. I was having a very hard time learning anything and so I just quit. I never had an instructor follow me out during the first try. I didn't jump at all the next summer. The following year I decided to give it another go. This time around an instructor followed me out on every jump. Gave pointers and in some cases I had video to look at. That guidance and the video debriefs, made all the difference. Haven't looked back since. With AFF you know you will have an instructor along for the AFF levels. There is more guaranteed in the early stages of AFF in regards to instruction than with S/L. As a side note, I think you end up learning more and end up being more comfortable in different situations with S/L however. Example, a static line taught jumper goes to a turbine DZ and laughs a little inside when he hears the AFF students going crazy about exiting at 3,500 feet, when they were exiting at that altitude or even a bit lower from their first jump. Think about how a static line trained jumper/student would act in a emergency situation that requires exiting at 2,500 feet in comparison to an AFF taught jumper/student. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -

First time camera-flyer looking for lens advice

Bingo! That is why you will never see Purple Mike with a camera. Unless it is on a chest mount facing up at him... Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
I am sure it is a lot easier on the arms as well. Both belly and back. I bet it is really easy on the back. You don't have to shove down huge arm wings. Will there be demos of the "T-Bird" (DSE copyright pending), available at F&D? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

As I am a college student I was lucky enough to get a copy of the Adobe Master Collection CS4 for very cheap (relatively) and now I just need some footage to play with. My other question is if I am using a scratch disk (external HD), and I pull the raw MTS files from the camera off the scratch disk into Premier, is that the fastest route for importing into Premier? Another question how do you like Dynamic Link? Sounds pretty nice to only have one render from import to DVD, even with some After Effects thrown in. Again, thanks DSE for all your "Indigenous" knowledge! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I am getting conflicting impressions. You have been mentioning on multiple occasions that Macs do not support AVCHD. Is it the OS, Hardware of an Apple or is the the Apple software that doesn't? Reason why I ask is Adobe Premier touts that it supports AVCHD natively on a Mac. Shed some light DSE. Thanks! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Ducking is also possible on '08. I started editing with iMovie '08 and the option was there in the same menu. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Use the ducking adjustment for temporarily changing the volume of a track. It is under audio adjustments menu when you click the little gear in the top left corner of a track in the timeline window. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Adobe Premier Pro CS4. Supports AVCHD natively on a Mac. However it takes quite a bit of processor power. Adobe can be a bit pricey too, but it is a very nice program. Really splurge and get after effects too! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

First flight, late August 2008. BM Firebird, no coach, but some friendly advice from other DZ birds. Now have a little over 100 wingsuit jumps. Thanks to Chuck and the other Z-Flock and Flock U guys for making my January filled with jumps instead of sub-zero temperatures. See you guys at F/D 5.0! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Can't we all just get along.... On a side note if we were always practicing legs out flying how would we know how to keep up with a topless rodeo? Lets shoot for completely nude next time Purple Mike. I mean you will have that Ghost 2 by F/D right?! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

You just can't find good copiers anymore. How do you like your new P2 Scott? looks like you were keeping your flocks at legs straight speed. Nice work. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
