The same tug and pull that physicists and engineers go through. Theory vs. Application. And I don't mean that kind of tug and pull Jarno.... Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

http://www.skycanyonws.com/media.html Thanks again for all the great jumps! I will have to try harder to stay with a 5 way docked line. Talk about throwing the brakes on! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Obviously, this is a back and forth argument that will probably have no end, but I do have a couple questions. Do you believe the form drag to be more substantial on the larger suit? Do you believe form drag has an effect on wake turbulence? I do believe a smaller suit that is being flown in a very head high (stall) position would have similar wake turbulence as a larger suit with a more head low angle of attack with the relative wind hitting almost entirely on the leading edge. But what do I know? One more... Have you ever been incorrect? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Even when Butters, who has the stature of an oompaa loompaa, has his Stealth 2 on it can create some pretty good wake off the arm wings. Help your fellow wingsuiter out and make it a no wake zone. Edit: Jarno are you avoiding me? I have sent you a couple PM's. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Not sure how Butter's was promoting plummeting. You could've just said I do not have the money to spend on a second suit that would be better suited to working with lower time jumpers, and that you would prefer to have a floaty suit as your daily driver. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Want to be part of the Wisconsin wingsuit record?

I jump with Butters and I think if the weekend works out the Minnesota guys could make an appearance. Always love a tailgate! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Side note... As I am a rep for Gatorz I will be there with my samples and a number of pairs for sale. Orders are possible too. I will be discounting them a fair amount for the event. Gatorz has also been kind enough to donate two gift certificates that will be given away during the raffle on Saturday. You better be there Andreea! Who is going to the car/motorcycle boob docks! Also, remove the nose piece. The brass fittings can be removed to create a smooth surface. I jump with Wraptors both with helmets and without. I have been using them for a long time with no problems. However I made one jump with the nosepiece on and way too much air got through. The Wraptors and Magnums seem to be the best coverage. I use Bausch and Lomb Soflens CL's. The problem I ran into is when I used goggles I wasn't going to walk around the DZ with them on and the bright sun with give me headaches if I don't use sunglasses. Plus, since I was always wearing them that moment when you realize you forgot your goggles becomes a memory. Haha. Disclaimer: Rep for Gatorz If you have any questions PM me Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Jarno, be sure to knock Tony down a couple pegs. I just can't fly with him when is dialed in and cocky. Can you do that for me? Thanks. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Spring ski gloves are a good option. Usually they are thin but provide good wind protection. I use Rossignol Spring gloves. I make sure I am able to easily grasp handles, zippers, etc before trying new gloves. Jumping in the upper midwest you learn some tips and tricks. Also silk glove liners inside light skydive gloves are another option. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I don't believe I am blowing them into big proportions. I am just identifying the existence of different ways to handle the same issue. Now that I have helped take the thread in a completely different direction my work is done here. Back to enjoying unseasonably warm Minnesota weather in Oct. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

When I was referring to the arm cutaway handles I was thinking about uses after the canopy is opening. I too do not view the arm cutaway as a tool to be used in freefall. But in the case of a zipper jam actions will be different depending on the suit. Again I am just tossing this stuff out there for the sake of discussion. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

You open and one of your arm zippers jam. How is your reaction going to be different between all the suits you mention? Now make the decision while dealing with line twists down to your neck on your first WS jump. As far as donning the suit there are major differences between TS suits and PF suits. A TS suit does not require stepping into the legs of the suit before the arms and rig can be placed on the shoulders. Also, when routine is so important I see two very different ways jumpers get ready. The guys flying PF sit down to get their leg straps on and their legs threaded through the suit. Guys flying TS place the suit and rig on their shoulders and then while standing thread their legs through their straps. I may just be an idiot but I know I was thrown off a bit when gearing up in a TS suit for the first time. Not trying to be a pest I am just trying to look at all the angles. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Then that would require a single FFC suit endorsed by the rating organization. Share the design amongst the manufacturers and go from there. Do you see that working? I understand that the differences between the various suits that are appropriate for FFC aren't that great, but enough to warrant different briefings on the suits features. Seems to me manufacturers are stuck in the rating game until a common design is accepted. Tandems are still stuck in manufacturer ratings for a number of reasons this difference in design being one of them. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

One thing that came to mind in all this is with Birdman Inc. out of the wingsuit business where is the gear for first flights going to come from? My understanding is the only gear that can be used in a FFC is the manufacturers whose instructional rating is being utilized. In other words if I have a BMI, I can't use PF or any other gear whose manufacturer requires a different rating. So this begs the question, with the supply of new BM stuff running out, what gear will be used? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Another option could be to transcode the .mts file into MPEG-2 and then edit in NLE. Also, with it in MPEG-2 then it should be quicker to DVD, but that I am not sure of. That is of course if you are not burning to Blu-Ray or other HD delivery options. In that case H.264 might be an option. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Adobe Premiere also works pretty well with the .mts files Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Nikon D7000 & Sony SLT-A55/SLT-A33
mnskydiver688 replied to soulbabel's topic in Photography and Video
The D7000 has an internal focus motor so you can use older lenses and still have AF. Also, check the frame rate of the D7000, 6FPS. If I didn't already have a D90 I would go for the D7000. A great lens to go along with it is the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. A little heavy but excellent low light performance and wide enough for pretty much everything. I currently use the nikon 18-55mm lens for most photos and the performance is very good. If you are looking to use the camera for a lot of things outside of skydiving I would go with Nikon. If you are using is mainly for jumping then go Canon. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Look at your camera angle. Now look at me. Now back at your camera angle. Now back at me. Sadly you camera angle isn't me, but if you started using outside video yours could look like me. Now look down. Now look up. Where are you? On a tandem video with the camera angle your camera angle could look like. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

They would be in location on the back of the wing as they are on the front. Did you pay the extra $60 for the back-fly inlets? If you did then I would get in contact with PF for a fix. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Not sure what the point of no grippers is on the size suit the Ghost 2 is but whatever. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
-
An extra leg cell? First of all that would be pretty tough and that would only affect the width of the leg wing. A longer leg wing would give you a little more drive. But you also have to remember there is something to loading a suit well. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
