  1. It continues to befuddle me why the wingsuit community immediately jumped to the idea of a "world record" to assert the relevance of our discipline. Why there wasn't more emphasis put on developing a competition circuit like the NSL with the goal of developing small group flying skills is beyond me. Then after the discipline gains a grass roots hold in competition and nationwide involvement from 182 dropzones to multi plane operations move on to establishing a method of creating and judging a world record. For those of us who do not have the means to travel to record events really have nothing riding on how the records are judged or accepted for that matter. Have fun trying to establish the relevance of our discipline by a means that all but eliminates most of us small DZ flyers. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  2. I made it a point to not download the tutorial so I wasn't tempted to use it. But that is neither here nor there. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  3. I think both the usual questions and the usual answers miss the point entirely. Whether a suit is high performance or not is a poor way of categorizing suits. What makes a high performance suit? Let us compare it to cars. You wouldn't put a top fuel dragster into a drift race. You also wouldn't put a drift car into a drag race. Both are considered high performance. You wouldn't send that same drift car into an off road rock crawling competition either but tube frame rock crawlers are considered high performance. While there is a safety aspect in regards to choosing a suit, telling someone a suit would be dangerous isn't the most convincing argument in a sport like ours. If we listened to that reasoning none of us would be skydiving. If the friends you usually fly with are all flying Phantom 2's why would it be necessary to fly a V3 with them? So you can fly with bent knees the whole time? I switched from an S6 to a Ghost 2. Didn't really upsize but I have never flown better. Why? It shifted where my flying envelop was. It didn't make my flying anymore high performance just different. I think our community should take a hint from RW. People pick their RW suits so they can fly with others more easily. They aren't out there saying oh man I want the most high performance RW suit so I can go super fast. Go for it. You will be watching everyone else as you fall away from the formation. What about the head down record. Im sure there wasn't two identically shaped suits in the whole group. They fly a suit that makes flying with others easy. Whatever that means. Less material, more material, whatever. Now if you enjoy flying by yourself in an endless sky then by all means get the most "high performance" suit. At least you won't have to worry about going blind when you play with yourself skydiving. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  4. Looks like someone likes the Video Copilot Sure Target tutorial. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  5. I guess I should've continued with my point and said possibly move to a suit that has better inflation than the firebird, but not to the extent of the SM1. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  6. The fact that the inflation on the Firebird can not even compare to the inflation of the Mach 1. You will have to work harder to shut down the wings. More than you know. The wing is much more likely to get in the way at pull time when compared to the Firebird. I have flown both a Firebird and a Mach 1. Couldn't be more different... Good luck. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  7. Yeah I had a lot of fun playing with it. Expressions are sweet and some of the plugins are nice too. If you haven't already.. Check out videocopilot.net Anyway good luck and have fun. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  8. I have taken my Ghost 2 out of a Cessna and it wasn't too bad holding on. Like others have said try to get the pilot to pull the power back to lessen the prop blast. Also keep in mind that you really need to keep those wings closed. Because of the stance of a poised exit you really have to be mindful of it. Have fun and stay safe. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  9. Well then I guess the vast majority of the forum is guilty of jerking him off then... If he truly is a "dick". Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  10. For future reference I put a UV filter on the front. I believe it is a 43mm size. Whether or not you want to put a filter on a $100 lens is up to you but if you can extend the life why not. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  11. Hey, After meeting Yuri last winter and having a brief yet informative conversation, it became clear of Yuri's goal in these posts. To get the kind of reaction he gets all the time. He loves ruffling feathers, "pun possibly intended", and getting people talking. He enjoys doing his own thing and making other people defensive about their own thing. The fact that I am writing this post is feeding into the post mill Yuri can create at a moments notice. On another note, I also wouldn't be surprised if Chuck pissed in his Wheaties. I thought my Mini-wheats tasted funny the morning I didn't drink enough at the Crystal Bar. Ha anyway, I will continue to get a kick out of how easily Yuri can get a lengthy thread going. I am guilty in keeping the tradition going. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  12. I flew an S-6 for about 150-160 flights before I upsized to a Ghost 2. While I love the Ghost 2 and have really found a suit I can be completely comfortable in I would be interested in trying a P2z as I have heard great things. Remember, if it is a cool trendy look your going for, wingsuits look the best when fully stretched. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  13. Thanks for giving a shout to my video. I also have a year end one that has some good cloud stuff. Anyway, I look forward to Jarno's and Scotty's video! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  14. Phil, I think the FFC suit choice stuff was a little different that the other general bitchiness around here lately. But, maybe it wasn't. Who knows. Phil you seem like a cool level headed guy. What happened? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  15. I was going to mention something about that Blade in the picture, but decided it wasn't my place... Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  16. So would it then be called Andreea spacing? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  17. Those were pretty loose vagina's. I definitely thought I was throwing a hot dog down a hallway. So tighten it up next time. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  18. If only that kind of footage was possible out of the box. I have a few questions though. I wonder if some color correction was used in post because it seems very saturated in some shots and blown out in others? Also, I wonder what glass was being used? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  19. Is the reason China and India are looking at HD DVD because of licensing fees? Or the cost of production? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  20. "Rant over (for now)." Ha, come on Spot you know you will never be done ranting about Apple. I thought they were going to be putting Blu-ray support in their new computers? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  21. Well in the middle of writing a reply in the forums the ad came across my screen. So much for not being in the forums. Oh well. I'm not in here enough to really care. Subaru needs to rethink the way they get the attention of their potential customers. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  22. After spending the amount of money to get a system like that, what made you hold off on other editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier Pro? I am running a MacBook with only 2.4GHz and 4 Gb RAM and am able to get real-time playback of AVCHD and the render times aren't crazy considering my system. Invest in CS4 Production Premium and then you can add some stellar motion graphics intro's and credits using after effects. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  23. Are you saying DSE can't fly? It isn't very nice insulting someone who is physically challenged. Although I would agree. DSE is better suited to sit on the ground so all his "NEW" fangled techno stuff can't be used to make the rest of us look bad. Now in all seriousness, in regards to stock footage couldn't someone take the shots on a sunny day and then auto-correct the brightness and color to fit the individual tandem videos? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  24. Excellent segment. Good job guys. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
  25. I am not talking about the vents I am talking about the rest of the wing. Why do you think they have zippers in the wings of the Tonysuits? The wing is completely sealed off and therefore the only place the air is allowed to escape is through the vents, unless you have the zippers open. Phoenix-Fly wings are not completely sealed off, While the vents themselves are airlocked, air is allowed to escape through the body of the suit. Another thing to consider is we are discussing a wing that is already inflated and so think about trying to push the volume of air in the wing through small vents rather than large ones. Plus once the wing is inflated air is no long rushing in. Where would this air go? The wing is already full, so what you have is turbulence around the vent between the air trying to get into the wing and the air that is getting pushed out. The smaller vents makes it harder for this exchange to happen therefore there is somewhat less turbulence around the vent once the wing is inflated. This also makes it harder for the wing to collapse. Consider the difference between a student canopy and a cross-braced one. With your theory the student canopy should be harder to collapse because the openings in the nose are bigger. When in fact the cross-braced canopy is harder to collapse. The openings in the nose of a cross-braced canopy are much smaller to help eliminate the exchange of air at the nose which in turn helps reduce turbulence. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
