Ok first off I did a search. the thing keeps beeping hours after I leave the DZ. For some reason I cant get it to do anything. I took the battery's out to reset it. Ok now the question... Does anyone know where to find the quick reference guide on line? I cant find it on line or on there website... Thanks ahead of time for your help... 7. Ozzy you're saying that you used your coach rating to hone your flying skills and learn how to interact and teach students? or it was one requirement that you checked off your card to go to an AFF course? Could be tough for you to fib on this one. Not really sure why you are asking me this on here when you already know the answer..... I worked directly under your supervision as a coach. Plus you were my IE as a coach. So with that said ... Yes I did!!!! Mr. Dicky Winters Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

  9. Thats the problem I had. Most North East DZ's Use Tandem progression and the students first solo is with one instructor. I stayed on level one's and two's for a bunch of jumps. I would have loved to just been reserve side for the first 50 or so. Thats not how it was. Matter of fact I got yelled at for cursing at my first student. I was so pumped that he or i didn't die LOL that when he landed I congratulated him by saying FUCK YA!!! Wasn't very professional but we lived Like DSE from my first skydive I knew I wanted to do this. I would love for the system to go back to a mentor ship. Then again I thought thats what the coach rating was for. Starting to learn how to teach and hone your flying skills in. I could be wrong but thats when you start to work under said old timer AFF guy who is getting them ready for the next step... Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  10. I would say 1000 to 1500 with info given.. ADD is junk and the rigger should have not packed it if it only has a couple months left and will have to be taken out before next repack Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  11. If im correct. You old timers use to put students out with 100 jumps as a JM. Has things changed? YES Are they for the better? I don't know. I got my rating last winter. Did they hand it to me for paying them? NO! Was I ready to work with students after getting my rating? USPA said I was. Looking back I have learned a lot this past season. The biggest was that I have a lot more to learn. If you guys are so sure that its to easy, Then why dont you do something about it. Instead of talking about it here. Go to board meeting, call your Regional Director and voice your option. Talking here is going to get nothing done. Jay Stokes is Pres. and a AFF IE Call him and tell him to make it tougher. I worked my ass off to get my rating and continue to improve as a instructor.. Would I have passed in the old system? I dont know and really sorry but don't care. Its not the system now and I met all requirements to get it. Do I care that people look at me and say it was handed to me? YES. If it was that easy everyone would have it and they dont. You guys can go round robin on this to you are blue in the face . The system is what it is and if you dont like it do something about it. Just my 2 cents Blue skys Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  12. I think he means that the student that does a tandem knows he/she likes it and finishes the program. Compared to the student that goes into AFF and after one or two jumps and then realizes its not for them.. That what I got out of what he said.. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

  15. Tandems are great for the student to see if this is for them. Gives them less responsibility. For body poison its not so great. True AFF I think should be offered everywhere. Its not for several reasons. Money and lack of instructors are the two biggest that come to mind. kind of just wanted to see what more seasoned AFFI's preferred. Feet on ass is a common thing that i have came across and its the tandem training that causes this. When I get a student from another dz that is True AFF its not a issue at all. 16. i know DZs offer different progressions. There are pros and cons to each one. I want to know what you think? Thanks Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  17. The biggest concern is if your shirt comes up over your handles. With your low jump numbers and have a malfunction, Im not sure if you would want the extra worry of having trouble locating your handles. Once you get ur A its up to you what you wear... I will not let my student jump without one.. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  18. Well the difference here is he attempted to kick out of it.... No the difference is you are a retard and the skyhook saved your life!!! Edited to add: No PA's here just facts Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  19. Ok I found another video on utube with the same result as me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn2pjJ-yGsI&feature=related I dont like being the only one Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  20. Oh the infamous Marko that caused his own line twist at 1200 ft and if he didn't have a skyhook would probably be dead. Great commercial for UPT Seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QECtqCRNKxs&feature=related Now this thread has gone full circle Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  21. Here is the video again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEau0dc67e4 We can go back and forth for days on this. I was crapping in my pants to be honest with you. I probably could of kick out of the main if I tried But i didnt....Yes the skyhook worked as just a normal rsl in my case.. I would rather not have one now.. Nothing less, nothing more..Im done with this.. I spent enough time on it Enjoy.. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  22. Hm. Didn't we conclude that in your case the skyhook didn't cause the line twist? If anything, your case would be an argument against not arching when cutting away using an RSL, or an RSL in general, but not at all specifically against a skyhook. Actually, it seems the skyhook did exactly what it was supposed to do, which is disable itself if there is more pull on the pilot chute. ) ummm I have stated that its not the skyhook that i dont like .... Its a RSL in general Im glad you got one and are not part of the crowd.... Ok i said my piece. Its all good and you are right. The only discussion anyone should make is what best for them. Piece Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  23. Ok my understanding of both systems. RSL uses the riser to pull your reserve pin. Skyhook uses your main as a pilot chute for your reserve. I don't see how the skyhook is a complex system. Form what my rigger explained to me is that what ever catches more air will inflate the reserve. (pilot chute or the main) Thats why in my case it looks like the lanyard was connected at first then it released. Idk if thats true or not but thats what I was told. In any event the skyhook in not that complex. Its that people just don't educate themselves . I am included in that statement until my cutaway Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  24. I really don't anything against the skyhook per say. Just a RSL. Since the skyhook is one kind of rsl is the only reason I don't like it. If that makes any sence to you. Cons of a rsl. Having to deploy my reserve on my back with my head low for starters Having my main lines snag on my camera and having to worry about disconnecting the rsl before cutting away is another. The skyhook is a great invention and design. It improved the RSL system dramatically. I just dont like jumping a RSL after my experience LOL I am basing them on facts... Did you watch the video Dave. No more RSL for me. Ill take my chances Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  25. You are100%correct and thats why I dont jump a RSL anymore. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
