  1. Next time a guy spirals down like that, ground them and see if they do it again lol simple fix if you ask me Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  2. Wrong. I've seen several experienced jumpers doing this. again not disagreeing just stating No kidding. And it would help if others would get a clue on how to fly their canopies in traffic. Its the job of the insturctors at the DZ you jump at to handle that Yes, but I'm asking for a little more. USPA just gave you more Again, there are too many people who can't do that. and again uspa is addressing this matter Good luck Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  3. One more thing HP landings require a little different pattern. depending on what kind of turn and if its a left or right hand turn. Uspa last year or the year before required uspa DZs to have a separate landing area for HP landings. Just wanted to add that. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  4. Again some people dont care. some people come to the dz every other month to do a skydive or two have a beer and go home. From day one you were told that you are responsible for your self. With that said always protect yourself by looking at who's on the load and adjusting to that. Most importantly keep your head on a swivel. hope this helps. stay safe Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  5. Speak for yourself, 43 and still swooping like a 21 year old. lol I think you should listen to him old man I don't want to see you get hurt. Plus you suck at swooping anyways Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  6. I looked trough this thread. It never seems to amaze me how people can sit in front of there computer and pick things apart. Now with that said come get me :) Bottom line something had to be done . in the ISP progression they go over basic canopy flight and before this year that's all you had to do. With everyone wanting to go fast and down size things needed to change. I understand that not everyone wants this but most do. I had a guy wanting to freefly with 10 jumps. Actually did freefly until I noticed that's what they were doing. I think this requirement is awesome. Helping everyone that comes threw this sport understand whats over their head and how it actually works. Not just teaching them to get down safe. The whole S&Ta thing I think is a good start so we have some control on who teaches. Is it right? Im not sure. Time will tell. There are so many variables from dz to dz that its really hard to make one standard across the board. This is uspa's way of trying to control this. At least I think it is. 2012 will be the first year this is in effect. Im sure there will be adjustments along the way. The only thing I can say to the unhappy people is if you don't like something go to a board meeting and do something about it. Being that canopy was the number one killer this year something has to be done. Two thumbs up to USPA for seeing this. As far as the eyes close while flaring. Every canopy course I took had me do this. I never heard of a indecent from this type of a maneuver in a course. There has been 100s if not 1000s of these courses given. So whats the problem? Just my thoughts. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

  8. First let me say talk to your instructors at your dz about info like this. You have know idea who you are talking to on here. With that said the skyjook is a great invention. I think it works really good with students and tandems. When you see this video. I have to ask how many times did they shoot it to get that. Here is a real life video that if this guy didn't have a skyhook he prob be really hurt or dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QECtqCRNKxs&feature=youtube_gdata_player Everyone has to make their own decision on works best for them. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  9. Line twist in my reserve was due too poor body position. If I didn't have a rsl I would have been able to cutaway get stable and deploy reserve. I'm not saying the rsl caused the problem here. I saying because of the rsl I could not get a better body position for a better reserve opening. Yes cutting away flipping over getting stable then deploying reserve i will lose more alt i dont find it to be a problem at the alt i deploy at. I mostly do tandem video and affi so I normally don't deploy below 3500ft and for me that is plenty of time to decide if I'm keeping it or going to reserve. Here is one I kept. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATxaAA6jpvs&feature=youtube_gdata_player I rather not jump with a rsl but that's just me. I want my reserve coming out when I want it too not when I cutaway. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  10. Good post. I myself removed my rsl after this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEau0dc67e4&feature=youtube_gdata_player I want to be clear of my main before the reserve comes out. I don't pull real low so if I have a spinner I will have plenty of Alt. But that's just me. Right wrong. I don't know. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  11. Evaluating appoaches from video is common from aff, high performance canopy piloting to tandem examination. So I really do not understand what you are saying. my point Is not from a 5 second video. Your point is mute. This is why I hate this site. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  12. For whom?no need to answer. Again sorry I said anything. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  13. LMAO. I'm sorry I said anything. I'm sure you are a good TI. But to evaluate an approach from a 5 second clip is silly. You have know idea what was going. Cheers dude!! Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  14. I love this site. All the assumptions on a 5 second video. I work with John for the past two years. He is one of the most consistent/safe instructors Iv worked with. Not sure how you could say that that video was anything but a good landing. Iv watched TI's try to stand up landings to be cool hurting the student. One time breaking both ankles on the student. Can stand up landing be safe? Yes Is it always safest to do so? NO I love Monday morning quarterbacking on DZdork.com Its Entertaining Rant over Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  15. Is it just the satisfaction to teach students or do you get paid by your drop-zone?Its satisfaction of seeing their eyes light up when they get it. It definitely is not the pay. Per jump AFFI gets paid the least. Do you have to pay for your jumps with students,No do you have to pay for your fun-jumps at the same drop zone? ...Yes Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  16. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3450691;search_string=whats%20your%20pay;#3450691 Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  17. You and I both know that our leaders don't want that too happen. Too many oil men have their hands in our leaders pockets. Along with the bankers and such. We need to be doing what other countries are starting to do and take our countries back from Corp america. Like I said before that's another forum :). 18. The last time we had a big spike in the 2007/2008 time frame I saw prices go up and back down in Washington and Northern California (those are the two areas for which I was most familiar with the day-to-day prices, though there may have been similar adjustments in other regions as well). So it does happen. Not one in the northeast area that raised their prices, lowered them after fuel went back down. As far as gas to jet fuel. The price for jet A went up and back down just like gas prices around here. I understand its a business. But when I hear we had no choice to raise jump tickets due to rising fuel prices then when fuel price went down they should of lowered the jump tickets again. That didnt happen around here. Then you hear well if you think about it 23-25 is cheap to jump out of a plane. Well I would say yes it is if I didn't need anything else to jump out of that plane. Im just sick of where this country is going and that discussion is for another forum Blue sky's Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  19. Listen please don't give dzo"s any ideas. The last time gas went up most dz"s in the north east raised their prices. The part that pissed me of is they all said it was because of gas prices. Well when the gas prices went down not one lowered the prices. If jump tickets go up I will just do work jumps. On another note. When was the last time dz"s increase their instructors pay. 20-30 years ago? With the rising cost of gear ect. Sorry about typos runny late to work Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  20. I have a 100 or so affi jumps so my experience is limited. I know this is the instructors forum and you would expect better here. DZ.com is vultures row. People just waiting to pound on the negative. With that said. I try to listen to the message that is coming out. It's clear on this one that the message Is that people think it's not a good idea to have handcam on affi jumps. Good luck and stay safe. Would love to see video so I can learn from it and again thank for sharing. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  21. I just want to know why? If your main side that camera has no perpose at all. I guess if you are reserve side you can stick it out in front for the student and get some shots.(edited to add)but good luck getting a student to understand your hand signals. I'm from the north east and I don't do to much true AFF. It's mostly AFP. One instructor. So that would be useless for me. I wear a camera on every AFF jump I do. It's a great debriefing tool. I just don't see how that helps you. Thanks for sharing. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  22. I think they did a great job with it. Very user friendly. http://www.apptism.com/apps/uspa-sim edited to add link Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  23. It's here! Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  24. 1. Easier. 2. Maybe the Tandem manufacturers are using the age of majority in the State the company exists? Florida's age of majority is 18. New York's is 21. edited to add link http://contests.about.com/od/sweepstakes101/a/agemajoristate.htm NY is 18. As per this site. There are three states and district of Columbia that are higher from what I see. So in those states that the age is higher they are still going to be exposed. I think it was to set one standard across the board. It's funny because a 16 year old can still do aff. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  25. No, you have seen (and so have I): 1. People land UNDER A RESERVE trailing a PC in tow malfunction. 2. People land UNDER A MAIN trailing a reserve PC in tow. But a guy LANDING A PC IN TOW is going to hit the ground at 120 MPH... He is not going to survive. Not that hard of a concept.... You are doing 120MPH at the ground with only a PC out. You are going to die unless you handle it. For that reason, my opinion is to STOP the skydive first, then deal with the PC in tow issue.[/reply Geez Im sorry if I didnt state the obvious. Of course they had a parachute over their head. Hens landing not pounding in. My bad Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
