Do you disconnect your RSL when shooting video?
ozzy13 replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dont have a RSL. You left that one out of your poll. This is why I took mine out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEau0dc67e4 I like blue you like red. Their are so many different options on this subject. If I didn't have a RSL I could of chopped and got back to belly to earth for a better reserve deployment. This of course depends on how much alt you have. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears! -

Minimum Requirements with Go Pro versus big camera
ozzy13 replied to marcantonio152's topic in Photography and Video
there was a guy last year that bought a gopro at 40 jumps. Told nobody and mounted it and jumped. I saw the footage on facebook. The next weekend I asked him why he was jumping the camera. He went on and on about he is a professional photographer and don't worry. I asked if he talked to anyone about this and he said no. No debriefs, nothing. I asked if he had a hook knife and the answer was also no.I looked at him like and he said don't worry it has plastic screws and it would just break off if there was a problem. I laughed. Couldn't help it. I told him it would be best to wait till you have everything you need before jumping. He didn't. Had a scare the next weekend pulling low not paying attention and took it off. With that said I started around 150 jumps. I should of waited. I got cough up in this is so cool I need to show my friends. I felt like people were holding me back. You couldn't tell me shit. The more time I get in this sport the more I realize I don't know shit. I have a problem with don't bother they wont listen thing. If they wont listen at least educate so they don't kill themselves or worse someone else. Thats the other side of this. You might be able to handle a camera and wont be fixed on the shot. When things go to hell you might kill someone else. Thats a big problem for the DZ and instructors for letting you on the plane. You better believe all instructors on that plane will be in the law suit if they let someone jump a camera under 200 jumps. If something goes wrong. I'll be damned if im going to let someone take my house if you want to jump a camera . So there is always more to a story. It took me less than year to hit 200 jumps. Whats the rush??? There is no place like The Ranch. As far as DZ's on long Island. One is a Cessna DZ that caters to only Tandems. It states a D to jump there. As far as I know if you don't work there or do a Tandem. You can jump there. The other is a full service DZ. Has two planes. A Caravan and a King Air. They do Tandems ,Aff,Coaching ect. Ill leave my feeling aside because I would be bias. Both have the sickest views that you will ever see on a skydive. I would recommend everyone go and jump on the Island at least once and form your own opinion. You know the saying. Everyone has one but some smell more than others. Mine is real smelly Go see for your self. Enjoy the views and form your own opinion. My opinion smelly or not!! Altitude is only one of the factors. Speed is another. From vigil's web site 45mph (20m/sec) for “STUDENT” and 78mph (35m/sec) for “PRO” or “TANDEM” Page 21http://www.vigil.aero/files/images/Engels.pdf The aad will activate at a slower speed in student mode. That is why (one of the reasons) I tell my students not to spiral their canopy below their hard deck. (2500) If they do, one of their issues could be a two out situation. So if you decide to keep it in student mode be aware of this please. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Well I know of a case where a lady leased a car using Chase. She crashes the car and sewed chase and won. Most leasing companies stopped leasing cars after that. She lost her appeal and banks started leasing again. Where does it all stop? When the lawyers stop thinking they can make a buck..... Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

If thats the case then why is there even a discussion. Why would any business owner subject themselves to that risk. Why should they expose themselves to any risk? Don't let anyone jump, or even get on your property? top Well from reading this thread the risk is less with people over 18 Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

I know they just changed the rules to, you have to be 18 to drive on the top circuit. But there are kids under 18 going faster then 30 in race cars across this country and im guessing their parents had to sign waivers????Why does that work and are waivers don't? Just so you know I think it should be 18 to jump. One argument seems to be that there's no way to ease into skydiving. Kids are allowed to drown while scuba diving, but people think that all kids swim and accidents can happen. As with racing, the kids may have started out on a 10 mph electric scooter, and worked their way up to 60 plus in a go cart. Everybody drives. Skydiving on the other hand for most who'd end up on a jury is simply stupid, and only for someone with a death wish. With that perspective, you're obviously endangering a child, etc. Martin Ok you are right that everyone/most drive cars. What about dirt bikes? Parents sign waivers for that. I just dont know how a parent can sign their kids rights away. Except if that said parent has an idea of the risks fully. In case of a DZO letting their own kid skydive before 18. They know the risk. Im not really sure if knowing the risk makes a difference. Now im confused lol. This question is not directed at you per say Martin. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Question. How come a sport like NASCAR does not have a problem like USPA? Its dangerous and their are kids 8-10 racing on there circuits all over this country. Just wondering Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

LMAO and thats why this country is falling apart!!!! Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

The focus these days is on air skills. Knowledge has been thrown under the bus. It explains why there is so much stupid shit going on. We're doing a piss-poor job of instilling knowledge and safety in the youngsters. POPS, USPA is trying very hard to change this. The IERC is one of the major steps forward, and more is coming. I don't know what the teaching methodology was 15 years ago, but what they've adopted for the IERC, and requiring standardization courses is a step in the right direction, IMO. Agreed, this shouldn't be an easily done thing. Flip side, look at someone like Craig Girrard...Why shouldn't he be able to take a Coach Course on Monday/Tuesday/Wed, and an AFFI course on Friday-Friday? With quadruple the jumps and instructional experience of most of the AFFI/E's out there, would you agree he's kind of in a different boat? Yes very much so. I just dont want the guy/gal with a 1000 jumps saying I want to make money in the sport. Go a take the coach course then take a AFF or Tandem course. Yes they might have flying skills. But should work with students under supervision before cut free. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Ok the more involved and time I get in this sport. The more I wonder. Should DZO's be allow to be on BOD? Is their discussions that affect our sport for their personal gain or to better our sport? I know if a change was going to affect my wallet I would vote so that it wouldn't affect it. I guess its good im not on the board. LOL I just would like to hear what other people think? Im not say that small dz's dont have great instructors. Your not the only person bring this up but when you are learning something/ anything. Do you go to a moderate instructor or do you go to someone that is the best at what they do? These students are paying a lot of money. Do you have to jump full time to get a rating? NO. I just think their should be some kind of currency prior to attending a course. My biggest grip with the way it is, is how someone can get their coach rating one weekend. Never teach a student and get their AFF or Tandem rating the next weekend. I don't understand how USPA allows this to happen. The change that just happened is a step in the right direction. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Ok I just got my Parachutist. Here we go: 56 people got their coach rating this month. Out of the 56. Three of them got their AFF rating Also one guy got his IAD rating, Tandem rating, and Coach rating in the same month. Discalmer: I dont know any of them and also dont know the Circumstances behind it. The guy with three ratings is from Poland or thats what it states. Food for thought.... If you are wondering if I have too much time. The answer is yes, Its winter Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
