Obviously they're getting kickbacks from Osama bin Laden. I'm not the one who said that and its also not true.
-
Because of the nature of human beings, I cannot forsee a world where such people and such sacrifices will cease to exist or be necessary. The true measure should not be that it happened, but that its value can not be questioned.

Christel is not American. You're aren't fighting or serving in any way to preserve her freedoms or liberties. Take her opinion for what its worth - one voice of the collective world's opinion of the US. The more we trash it, the worse we appear. RIP Michael. Until we meet in Valhalla.

And those accountants have obviously been instructed to take the most conservative approach to that tax return as possible.
-
I took a quick peek at the 2006 return out of curiosity. That tax return is remarkably bland. I guess it would stand to reason that its by design, but jeez at that income level I would expect a tax return that would require a couple months of free time and a pair of hip waiters to get through. They are taking conservative to a whole new level there, but on the other hand I guess a presidential candidate going through an audit would be horrible press.

Posting live on satellite. I live in a winter climate and I've never had a problem with snow. The only time I've noticed a problem was a lightning strike 15 yards away, but I had to take a minute to change my shorts anyway. If you're a gamer, which I'm not, you may wish you had something else, but for remotely working and general post whoring, it works great. I won't switch to dsl when it finally gets to me.

Do it before they go out of business.

Pentagon Staffer Guilty for Handling Secrets to China
JohnnyD replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes I meant Libby. I just find it interesting that people say we should hang these people from the nearest tree if they're members of one political party and make endless excuses for them if they're members of the other party. I think the end result is a devaluation of the crime itself. -

Not disagreeing. Do you think Scooter got off light as well? -

I didn't even think that was illegal anymore, unless you perjured yourself or obstructed the federal investigation of course. -
> $1/cup for the cheap stuff. Is it THAT good?

Looks like the coffee is so expensive they'll give you the coffee maker for free.

Are you PROSPERING? I'm addicted to this website!
JohnnyD replied to christoofar's topic in The Bonfire
Ok - I see where you're coming from. My only advise is to draw a line in the sand as to how much you are putting into this. If you roll your profits back in - fine, but set a very hard limit on what you put in and if you end up losing it, do NOT put any more in. Have fun. Can you post up your activity so it can be tracked? That would be interesting. -

So you are actively seeking out people who: - share a hobby common to yours - have either gotten themselves in financial difficulty or seek to purchase something they can't currently afford - can't get backing from more traditional financial institutions - have a history of financial trouble and/or poor financial decision making - are seeking loans with no collateral or recourse. Sorry man, but if this is your idea of a good use of your spare money, you're more likely than not to get what you've got coming to you. -

The loans themselves are Promissory Notes, which is the bank equivalent of a signature loan. Sig loans these days are not going to be anywhere below 8% for even the best of borrowers--if you can get them. Promissory notes aren't guaranteed investments, they're simply IOUs (loans). So you have to do what any other lender does, review who is asking for the loan. Prosper itself is a loan servicer, which means they make their money by running the bidding, the settling, and the subrogation of collections. There's a borrower and a lender fee. The borrower's APR is adjusted for the pro-rata fee and also the closing cost is subtracted from the deposit, and on the lender site, the APR is at a spread below what the borrower is actually paying, which is Propser's cut from the loan. But if you're stuck with credit card debt in the 20s or high teens and you close a Prosper loan at 4 to 8 points below that amount... you're saving a huge amount of money as a borrower, no? Absolutely. It kind of came across as you saying being a "lender" through this site is a good investment. This is a great thing for the borrower and the website. The people buying these loans are totally out of their minds, but the old saying will remain true through the end of time. -

* All loans are made by Prosper Marketplace, Inc. and sold to winning bidders registered as lenders with Prosper. Prosper "lenders" are loan purchasers. Each lender's results will differ depending on the default rate of the lender's portfolio, and may vary over the 3-year term of the loans. Loans and returns on loans are not FDIC-insured and have no Prosper guarantee. Loans may lose value. The guys running this are getting their money right off the top. There may be some success stories out there, but this one has the red warning light flashing on overdrive. -

NO. If a client came to me and said they were thinking about doing this, I would tell them they were out of their mind. -

If you saw the way that picnic table was looking at him......... Had it coming. -
What if it was your daughter who had - say a bra and panty set thing with some metallic accents - and the TSA told your daughter she couldn't board the plane with them on and made her remove them. On the ensuing flight, your frightened and upset daughter cried the whole way to wherever you are going, causing your fatherly instincts to go over the top - understandably so. I would enjoy saying to you -- "WAAAHHHHHHHH"

I don't have one personally, but I do have three friends that do, and they've all said it was a waste of time and it would be valuable if you owned your own business, but if you're working for a large corporation like they are, they believe it was not worth the time and money, because experience is valued more than education. I have friends with MBAs and their experience is exactly the opposite. The ones working for large corps value them far more. Its just common sense really. If two people are applying at Microsoft and one has a BA/MBA and the other has no degree, but has run a small business successfully for a number of years, which one is the front runner? The BA/MBA without question. The experience is nice, but it just doesn't translate and there is no pedigree to fall back on. To the OP - depends on what you want to be when you grow up. Get out of college and get a job. See what you like. If you end up in a huge corp, chances are you will be able to get them to pay for some or all of your MBA. If you're in a smaller company, very unlikely. Reason? The MBA is much more valuable to progressing in larger corps.

Why Pilots Should Not be Allowed Firearms on Planes
JohnnyD replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
First of all, it was not an "accidental discharge", it was a negligent discharge. I am not aware of a single firearm that can be fired if it handled properly and maintained with the safety on. This is a line of crap. A firearm discharged in close quarters is a danger, at a minimum to the men in the cockpit. The concussion may disorient, and hearing loss is possible as well. One week's training is not enough, and these pilots are not trained in CQC situations. Having a gun on the plane means having the potential to have the firearm fall in the wrong hands. Air Marshals are the component to pour resources into, not privately employed pilots. I agree 100%. I haven't heard of any lawsuits yet, but I'm sure they'll be coming. -

I think Tito has mad heart - they all do to climb in there. I just think the competition is getting bigger, stronger and more skilled. He can't just roll over the Ken Shamrocks of MMA forever and he can no longer just GNP people. Rashad was a snooze fest and I think Machida will be as well - right up to the point he lands one from the bleachers or submits him.
