  1. For my first tandem it was all location. I knew I wanted to jump, so I just searched online for the closest DZ to my house and that was it. Three years later I decided to finally do AFF. Living in Orlando, FL, there are obviously lots of options. I wanted one that was obviously safe, good instructors, etc, but I wound up going to a DZ where I knew someone. He said the vibe was cool, people were nice, and the view was nicer, so that's where I went and stayed. It's about 40 minutes farther than the closest DZ to me, but it's still only a little over an hour so it's no big deal :)
  2. I've had a couple people ask me to take them skydiving when I told them I had 40 jumps. Silly rabbits [:) Uh, yeah, sure, I'll figure out that whole tandem thing on the way down. Now...where does this clip to?
  3. Whuffo: "So how was your weekend?" Me: "It was awesome, I got my first license in skydiving!" Whuffo: "Sweet! Does that mean you can have other people attached to you now?!?" I was asked this by about 3 or 4 people at my school.
  4. That's another thing...they let me give when they shouldn't have, can I really trust them again? And they didn't make me stick around, just asked if I was okay (I felt fine at the time), and then sent me on my way. Maybe because there was a long line behind me. Yeah it wasn't the best of experiences, but I DID get to help :-) I'll give again one of these days.
  5. Yeah, if I could make it that far... :) I passed out about 15 minutes after giving, and all I did was walk back to my desk and eat. If I went directly home, I would've passed out on the ride home When I told the paramedics what my BP was when I gave (90/60), they were shocked and said the people NEVER should've stuck me in the first place. I was also denied about a month earlier because my iron was too low (I guess I passed the second time around), so maybe I'll give next time when I have more iron in my blood and my BP is higher
  6. Yep I had: A full breakfast that morning A granola bar on my way in Drank 2 cups of cranberry juice while they were taking blood Ate the cookie they gave me on my way out Immediately went back to my desk and ate an entire sandwich and drank an entire bottle of water. 5 minutes later--on the floor. They didn't tell me I COULDN'T give again, but I'm a little apprehensive :)
  7. Wish I could...but I passed out last time I did...so I don't think it'll be a good idea any time soon. The blood bus was outside my work today, too
  8. See you at Skydive Sebastian, FL!! Going to keep us all updated of your travels? Plan on getting your A license along the way or before you leave?
  9. Thanks for the input... Don't see myself being anywhere near OH anytime soon, but thanks for the offer anyway
  10. I have a feeling that would be a bit out of my price range And its a BIT too early to be thinking of flying camera :)
  11. Hmmm...maybe I can demo it? Don't know if they do that for helmets.
  12. Maybe mine is just weird but I tried on a small at the CK invasion and it was too big
  13. Hmmm...hadn't heard of them until now. A bit pricey, but I'll definitely look into it! Thanks!
  14. sky systems is based in Deland, right? I was thinking of swinging by there to try on their XS helmets while I'm in Deland picking up my new rig, but I keep a look out for the n-vertigo too! Thanks
  15. The problem is, even the smalls I've tried on are too big So even when I see a small pop up in the classifieds I'm a bit apprehensive to buy. Probably just end up buying new and returning until it fits. The initial price of the helmet isn't a problem, just don't want to spend too much on return shipping
  16. Yeah BH seems to be my #1 option right now (since the small Evo and Hurricane were too big). I'll just have to work with them to get the right fit! Wish they were located somewhere in FL
  17. I've searched through the forums and couldn't really come up with much...there are plenty of threads on helmets for BIG heads :) Anyway, I'm in the process of getting all my gear together, and have had trouble finding a helmet (open-face) to fit my small head (about 21"). I've tried on whatever the gear stores have, but they usually don't carry many smalls or ANY extra smalls. I would like to try before I buy, but I'm afraid I'll have to just order something and hope it fits! Anyone have any experience/recommendations? Thanks!
  18. I repeated levels 3 and 6. I had trouble with arching throughout AFF (especially in the beginning). For level 3: by the time the instructors were comfortable enough with my body position in order to let me go, it was almost pull time. Can't pass a release dive without being released
  19. ISTJ: Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging. The "Inspector Guardian" Pretty much very strong on all 4 ;) http://www.personalitypage.com/ISTJ_car.html
  20. I will be in about....18 hours! Got my 2 "easy" finals tomorrow (hence why I'm on dz.com instead of studying). Can't wait to finish, get drunk, then do some stress-relief skydiving!
  21. mmmm...body mods. eh, whatever floats your boat. it's interesting to read all the speculation about WHY they do those things. could be all of those things, could be none of them. getting pierced can be a rush. it can be addictive. it's fun :) not like we do any such things for any such reasons.... to each his own ;)
  22. I enjoy reading them, but only because I'm a student as well, just off AFF. So I just experienced many of the same things, it's interesting to hear stories from other students. But I can understand how an experienced jumper would be bored :-)
  23. wish i had such an excuse for being a slow runner :-) I usually come in around 10-11 minutes...never been a good runner I'd rather swim :-)
  24. Welcome! I know what you mean about thinking about it too much and getting scared. After I signed up for AFF, it's all I could think about, and I would get really nervous and not want to jump...But then I thought about how amazing my tandems were, and how I really just wanted to get back in the air!!! The longer you wait, the harder it will be, so if this is something you really want to do, just do it!! Good luck and blue skies, beth
