Update! This weekend Skydive Suffolk Va InVaSiOn boogie
jkong replied to SimonBones's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Woohoo! Im excited! We are driving down Fri afternoon, so we will be around for the Sat and Sun festivities. Cant wait to jump with you guys -
Just get contacts. You may not want to always use sunglasses. I just have them in all day and dont have to think about them.

I wish I had the $ to travel there before making any decisions, but unfortunately I do not. My sister did teach for a few weeks in Shanghai, and she LOVED it. I will consider any place in mainland China, but what Im really looking for is suggestions for reputable programs who I can trust will hold true to the employment contract. This is for some crazy reason the ONLY thing that my family has supported me on (besides going to college). They think skydiving is insane, but moving to the other side of the world? Go for it! hahaha.
-
Thanks to both of you. Any contacts would be greatly appreciated

I am seriously considering this as an option for the 2008 school year, but before I do anything, I would like to hear others' stories and suggestions. Have you ever done this? If so, what was your experience like? Did you do it through a program? Where did you do it? So far I have looked at Guangzhou (where my family originated) and Shenzhen, but I am not opposed to looking anywhere else. I want to go to China because I have roots there (I'm half Chinese) and I would love the experience of teaching, living on the other side of the world and challenging myself with learning mandarin. Thanks for your anticipated suggestions/comments!

Oh Man! I wish I could make it!

This is gonna be a FUN boogie! I can't wait! :)

Sue Sweetman will be organizing. If you are interested in joining us, please email me at jekong@gmail.com with your experience level and what slot you feel comfortable flying in.

Ok! thanks for all the good advice and well wishes - The interview went well... When I left the office I stopped in the bathroom to put on my suit, where the CEO caught me! ouch. I got to the interview 10 min early, but the woman interviewing me was 30 min late how rude. I rounded up to the nearest 10k when she asked how much I make, so basically I lied. I hope she doesnt ask my boss how much Im currently making if I get the job. Otherwise, there go my chances. The woman was crazy about me - I even overheard her say to someone outside of the office when she left me for a minute saying "She's the one!".

I agree with this - I will probably ask it. Its really important to me to enjoy where I work. I used to love it here, but then all the people I enjoyed working with moved on to new jobs or moved away. And boredom leads to mroe dz.com or wishing I were doing something else, like skydiving. I want to enjoy all of my life, not just everything outside of 9-5. The interview is at 2, I am leaving here in an hour. At this point if I havent figured it out, I will just wing it during the interview. I will let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for all the helpful replies

Well the interview is for 2pm this afternoon and Im at my workdesk right now... so that wont work. Plus I have used all my personal days for the whole year already (thanks skydiving!) Also, I've heard saying that you are a perfectionist is not the right thing to do on an interivew, since everyone hears the same thing and it comes off sounding like bs.
-
Ive done this plenty of times, but every time I find myself questioning if I should have done something differently. -How to get away from the office for the interview without being sneaky? Tell them now that I have to take an extended lunch or apologize after I am late coming back? -How to change my clothes into a suit before the interview without anyone at the office noticing Im particularly dressed up today? -What the hell is my greatest weakness? I really want a new job. Ive been bored here forever. Any advice is greatly appreciated, including any ideas for questions I should ask them on the interview.

Congratulations Rod! It was so much fun to jump with you, and you did such a great job!

Maybe its just that I'm from the city, but I hate not having a car to be free to travel around whenever/wherever I want. Im used to being able to walk everywhere or catch a subway. The last time I didnt have my car it was terrible trying to find someone to give me a ride to the station, and when I did I missed the last train! I guess I'd rather just sit in my car with no a/c all Fri afternoon than ask around for a lift. Luckily, though, I get out of work early tomorrow trying to beat the traffic, maybe even make sunset load!
-
dang.... I guess I have to take out another credit card.
-
I'm a native new yorker too. I, however, cant wait to move closer to the DZ... it SUCKS to have to sit in my car for 3 hrs to get out of the city on Friday nights.

The beautiful lady in pink, Sue Sweetman will be doing the organizing for this jump. We will be making no more than 4 attempts for the record, most likely. Because the Record Attempt is taking place during the RW Fiesta Boogie, the registration fee is just the boogie fee of $25. It also gets you a t-shirt and dinner on Saturday night. We will all be splitting the costs for videographer at $16 per attempt. Come back to Cross Keys and you will probably see some familiar faces. This is going to be a FUN weekend, and I cant wait to meet some new badass girls. We would love to see you again!
-
According to the USPA Website, NJ Women do not currently have a record. It may be possible no one submitted it in the past. We are wide open to set a new record, so lets make this a good one! I will also be asking around the DZ this weekend to see what the consensus is about making the attempt for Sat instead of Fri.

I'm down at Cross Keys on the weekend, jumping Sat and working Sun... so sorry I cant make it for the boogie But Ive been meaning to come up and check out The Ranch for a while. It also looks like there is some really nice hiking nearby.
-
So Im thinking of mixing it up a little and dropping by the Ranch on Wed the 4th.... Any organizing or anything special happening that day?

Landed off??....Let's hear about it!
jkong replied to kturnau's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first experience landing off: My contact fell out on a previous tracking dive, so I decided I had to quit for the rest of the afternoon. But Pam and I had earlier plans to do a 2way, so I was compelled to stay and do it. I put my suit back on, contemplated bringing my cell phone (which I normally do, just in case I land off :-P) but then decided I didnt need it. In the plane I felt my sinus rupture. During freefall my nose was bleeding like crazy, and it began to cover up my goggles. At the end of the dive, I tracked downwind away from the DZ, opened and realized I was gonna have to land off, with only one good eye and blood covered goggles. I found a field, went for it, at about 500ft my canopy collapses, freaks me out!!!!!! but it reinflated just in time for me to see i was headed towards a hidden fence. Another freakout! But alas, I landed right in the backyard of a nice family having mother's day dinner. They offered me dessert, but I politely told them there were probably people coming to find me, so I stood out by the road before Kelly and Dana rescued me. -
Thats what we have scheduled for now. We have a lot planned because of the boogie, but theres always the chance that we can go big on Saturday too. Keep checking back on the forums. As far as the current record, it is something small, maybe around 12ish like Stacy said, might even be less.... I will get back to you on a definite number. Are you girls planning on coming out for the boogie? Id love to meet some of you and make the Women's way a great one!
