I scanned this thread past the first post only enough to see that #72 wasn't taken. -Dude #72 -
A coworker just asked me about this. After pausing to groan, I did a quick search. The episode is called "The Decent of Man" (spelling is theirs, not mine) and is viewable online here: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi/video/video.php?cid=446409122&category=episodes&play=true I've never watched CSI. After watching the first 5 minutes of this, I have a feeling I never will again. I will have to make some time later today to watch the whole episode though. If only to see how bad it gets.

The Text Messaging Challenge
tommythevegan replied to howardwhite's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know about half the guys on this jump, and my first thought when I heard about it was also that I could out-text any of them. However, I seriously doubt that I could do so while flying my slot, which I think is the truly impressive part. -
There is a sign that was recently put up at Mesquite that says something like, "Unsupervised children will be given an espresso and a free puppy." The first time I read it the funny took a second to sink in.

About how many people play in these? I've been dying to join you guys, but I'm usually busy on Thursday nights. I think I'll finally have time tonight though. -Tommy

The 31st? Last weekend I was told it was going to be the weekend before that... My room comps expire on the 31st! :(

I know of more than one skydiver at the home DZ who have recently passed the vaulted 100 mark, and think they have gotten by without getting the treatment. Any suggestions on how to correct this grievous oversight? Thanks, Tommy

The only advice I have is not to exaggerate how far you are from any given city. Got me all excited for a second there.

Would you still jump with your.....
tommythevegan replied to napvid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I recently had a problem with my Argus and had to send it in for maintenance. I was very disappointed about having to wait for it to be fixed, until my rigger said, "You can still jump, but you'll have to pull your handles." The obviousness of that statement made me realize how much I never want to depend on my AAD being there, even though it's a nice bit of extra to have. -

I was thinking about him yesterday too. I suppose memorial day isn't ever going to be quite the same. Not that it was ever an "upper" to begin with. Blue Skies Dave -
How far do you drive to the DZ each weekend??
tommythevegan replied to partyboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
320 miles from Vegas to Taft, 4.5 hours, every 2nd or 3rd weekend. Busted 3 weeks ago for doing 88 in a 65, ticketed for 80 in a 65, $123. Worth it all to jump with family. -
Good to meet you guys as well. Had fun again last night, 4 flights for $60 (Brad picked up the tab on one). Brad, you never gave me back the video tape. Probably just as well since I forgot to pay for it anyway.

On the Dropzone Information pages, Latitude and Longitude are listed, but not Altitude. I think this would be good info to have.

Physics of Skydiving Question

Went again last night, and things were the same, still $25 per flight. The cashier didn't know anything about a Thursday night special, and said that $25 per flight was the regular USPA discount. Nothing for DVDs either. She said she'd ask Brad about it the next time she saw him. I wasn't terribly dissapointed, as $25 is considerably cheaper than the $60 that each of my 4 friends that came with me paid for their flights. There is no way I could afford $60 for 3 minutes on any kind of regular basis. I had a great time again, and even though I swore to myself prior that I wouldn't go more than 3 times, I was really getting into it at the end of my 3rd run, and couldn't resist a fourth. I think that taking breaks between flights helped considerably, since I'm not sore this morning like I was last week. Probably a bit of muscle memory contributing as well. AFF 3 & 4 (and maybe 5) this weekend. Can't wait.
