  1. The "Boobie Dive" was definitely a great tribute to Todd yesterday. He would have been honored to be on a jump with 6 sets. Todd - You were the first person to PM me on dz.com encouraging me to jump in the winter, and more importantly to jump at Wissota. I will miss your quirky humor, your wacky stories, and your overall "awesom-ness." I will never forget the "awesome" 4 way we did at Pumpkin Toss right after our "awesome" tossing of the said pumpkins. Who came closest to the car in the field? Oh yeah, we did! Thanks for all you did for Skydive Wissota and this sport. Your presence will always be with that little club. I'll miss jumping with you this winter out there! BSBD my friend. Dinger
  2. SUUUIIIIII!!!!! Al did I hear that you were also going to be doing your topless fire poi for us?
  3. I've seen a couple of posts in regards to this and thought I would offer my professional two cents. I work in physical therapy and am quite familiar with this kind of recovery. I can honestly say that the amount that I have seen hardware removal is only about 50/50. From a recovery stand point it really hasn't made any difference in the overall outcome UNLESS you have continued pain or other problems. Removal of hardware is also dependent on where exactly it's located. For example, some patients have to have the hardware taken out because it impedes ankle mobility, but was necessary to have in the first place so that the bones would heal back together. On the flip side, I've had multiple patients who have never had the hardware taken out and they have been just fine. The circumstances are purely individually based. Keep in mind, if you choose to have the hardware taken out, it involves another surgery with recovery time. IMHO, if the hardware isn't bothering you I don't believe there is any point in opening you back up to take it out. You might even be hard pressed to find a surgeon who would be willing to put you under the knife without due cause. Pain experienced in a joint with weather changes is most likely due to change in barometric pressure and to be honest, you will probably notice that with or without the screws and plates. If you notice increasing pain in the future, definitely go back to your surgeon and have them check you out. It is possible that down the road they would want to do something about it. But who knows, you might also only continue to get better yet with time. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! P.S. It took my broken foot to stop sensing change in the weather 5 years after it healed...and that was without surgery.
  4. I can't believe it was too cold this weekend even for us avid winter jumpers. It was a good weekend to log some time on the new skis though!
  5. Sleeping in a mass grave with other poor kitties with the same demise.
  6. Freefalling shouldn't be too much of an issue, but you might have some discomfort and fatigue from flying your canopy. Also, which arm is it? If it's the right you also may notice a little pain when deploying. My advice would be to get a good strengthening program, not just for the shoulder joint itself but also for the muscles around the shoulder blade since they help to stabilize the shoulder joint.
  7. And of course don't forget load organizing by Karl and Merriah Eakins of Team Flew-id! It should be a great weekend of jumping and partying. Skydive Twin Cities' infamous DJ Dave will be providing music on Saturday night and the Minnesota Youth Hockey Association will be making a pancake breakfast Sunday morning for a nominal fee. And just so everyone knows, camping will be available. There are limited hook-ups for camper/trailers but feel free to bring your RV and/or tent. And if that's not enough to convince you to come, I'll remind you that you don't want to miss John Adler and his famous pink frap hat!
  8. I only made 3 jumps, BUT... Tom DeCorsey from Minnesota made 60 jumps for his 60th B-day and set a new state record!
  9. Hear that Meghan! Sounds like fun! I do have pics of Meghan sporting appropriate attire for the "no pants rule" that was implemented this weekend, unfortunately no red hat was involved....sounds like a task to be accomplished in photoshop? haha! jk
  10. Yes! And it is very warm for this cold air. I must say Cora and I looked mighty suave for the ice fisherman at our lake jump this weekend!
  11. Maybe if Meghan wears the cowboy hat AND the pink fuzzy hat her troubles will be over!
  12. Many of the MN jumpers migrate south...but those of us who aren't pussies stay and jump! This last weekend reached a high of 8 degrees! Ahh, refreshing!
  13. Damn! Baldwin jumpers are hot!
  14. And here she is, in all her wonder and glory. I believe the question posed this weekend was, "how can you NOT want this???"
  15. Why is it, that a fun, not-bad looking skydiver chick named Meghan cannot make it past four dates? We spent our cold weekend of jumping over a frozen ass lake pondering this very question. Post to follow showing off her hottie-tottie winter jumping getup. She is open to any and all suggestions that you may have to offer (the Legend need not respond...)
  16. UPDATE: I've received a few PM's and just want to let everyone know that we are still planning to jump. Cold means NUTHIN to us! We were going to be packing in a heated hanger, but the airport manager has been kind enough to let us pack right in the terminal. Hope to see you there!
  17. One day when I was growing up in Montana it got down to -40 or so with -70 windchills. What made it so bad was that a train also derailed in town the same day creating a large explosion knocking out power and gas lines to the whole city. People had to evacuate their homes, pipes were freezing, and my dad cooked us pancakes on a coleman camping stove on the back porch. That was the only day school was EVER canceled due to cold!!
  18. Here is a list of hotels closest to Lake Washington (all within 10 miles). In Mankato: 1. Country Inn and Suites (507)-388-8555 or 888-201-1746 2. Fairfield Inn (507) 386-1220 In North Mankato: 1. Microtel Inn and Suites (507) 388-2818 In St. James: 1. Viking Jr Motel (507)931-3081 2. St. Peter Motel (507)931-3100 I think there is a fair number of people willing to split rooms for Saturday night so you can send me a PM if you are looking for people to share costs.
  19. What you don't want to camp on a frozen lake?? Man, you jumpers are picky! Actually I am working on compiling a hotel list as we speak and will have that info posted ASAP!
  20. Yeah, yeah, you will both be so toasty warm. I'm impressed you're getting him into an Otter. This means he HAS to go all the way to altitude!!!
  21. We just can't get enough of jumping in the cold!! The Minesota Skydivers Club will be hosting a lake jump Febrary 10th/11th at Lake Washington in Mankato, MN. No worries, the lake will be plenty frozen for a landing area! We will be flying out of Mankato Regional Airport and landing over the lake, with shuttle service provided to and from the airport. A heated hanger will also be availble for packing. Max alititude will be 8K so that we have the ability to keep turning loads. Cost is $8 plus $1 per 1000 feet. Parking/shuttle available at: Westwood Marina Bar & Grill 1400 Lake Washington Rd Kasota, MN 56050 (Party at Marina to follow jumping) Jumping starts at 9am! Hope to see all the Minnesota/Wisconsin jumpers as well as anyone else who wants to join us crazy northerners!! Send PM or email emundinger@gmail.com with any questions.
  22. this is the second year and first time we are taking wuffos and I am looking forward to it a lot
  23. Well think about it...Adrenaline gives you a natural high. Just like any other stimulant (in my case caffeine haha!), when it's out of our system, we crash, we feel tired, our mood shifts. So there's an actual physiological explanation. Of course there's also the psychological explanation combined with it as well where our day-to-day activities aren't nearly as fun as falling throug the air In other words, you're totally normal...well at least you're considered normal by other skydivers that is.
  24. Something about the warm oil creating a difference in air pressure from the temperature of it so it helps the fluid in the tube move out of the ear...but that's just what she said, I'm not ear/nose/thoat doc. She said warm water works too, but the oil has less of a tendency to drip out of the ear right away. All I know is it worked for me!
  25. This happened to me once as well when I was sick. My right ear didn't pop for 3 days. It finally cleared up after my nurse friend told me a 'wives-tale' about putting in a few drops of warm olive oil before bed and then sleeping on my opposite side so the oil wouldn't drip out. I thought she was full of it, but it actually helped, only my ear made this really creepy hissing noise and I had a lot of pain when it popped. Lesson learned.
