Being new to the sport, I am constantly asking questions. My AFF instructor explained to me he is just the kindergarten teacher. I am at a small DZ where everyone offers free advice and tips (right or wrong). In the End it is your life in your own hands and you as a skydiver need to collaborate all the information and make the final decision for yourself. This is the same for most sports, for example, I have been in the sport of powerlifting for 7 years and it mirrors skydiving in the sense that opinions and tips to fly at you from all directions from people that want to see you succeed.

Did you have to repeat any AFF levels?
jbanning replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although I did not have to repeat any levels, on my level four I had a textbook exit, great freefall, on pull time I went head down, flipped, managed to pull the pilot chute, threw it, the bridle wrapped around my instructor. He managed to get loose @ about 2000' and my chute opened. He let me go to the next level since I did so well in freefall and I spent two hours on a cart throwing the hackey ball out while in a deep arch. Don't worry about repeating everyone has a learning curve. Dude remember, this is a very dynamic sport, I only have 11 jumps, but every time I jump I see and understand more and more!!!!!............Blue Skies -

I Passed Level 1 AFF!!!!
jbanning replied to floridadiver81's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
congrats bro, but you know anything that is "first"=case of beer!!!!!!! Its a skydiver's law -
I am new to the sport but i believe it is 60 days, it is 30 days until you get your A license.

Your parents claim skydiving takes no skill, get them in a windtunnel and watch them bounce off the glass. My parents wer not thrilled when I started, but they have supported my dreams no matter what they are. You only live once and life goes so quickly! I being a skydiver will fill a void in your life, DO IT!!!! You only get 1 shot @ this life, you do not want to look back 20 years from now and wonder.....what if?.................Blue skies

Ditching work for an hour or two in the morning to get my jump status into double digits!!!!!!!!!

I can see how something so simple can be confusing, I am thankful I had a great instructor who explained things in detail then asked me about what I have learned over and over. I am fortunate to train at a small DZ where I get a lot of 1 on 1 with him.

currently I have only 9 jumps under my belt, My DZ has a left-handed landing pattern which is exactly the opposite of what you drew. How did experienced skydivers get that wrong?.......
-
I have a similar problem, out of the last 6 jumps, I have only 2 perfect pulls. I tense up during pull time for some reason, I call it "pull anxiety". Its just one of those things I have to get through. I have been told by everyone at my DZ that each person has struggled with something that seems easy to do...Good luck, definitley get a coach jump with film and fix the issue.........James

Thanks for the feed back, it was my first jump completely by myself I was screwing around and I paid for it.....(shit, I said first , another case of beer!)

I recently had a brutalopening. After deploying I immediately looked up at the canopy instead of waiting the 2 seconds like I was taught. Is that what could cause a off heading opening?

I am in Florida and I am lucky enough to have a tunnel an hour and a half awaty from me. Me and my buddies each did 7.5 minutes in the tunnel before AFF 4. Tunnel flying IS different from freeefall, but it give you cofindince and stabilityu, and more importantly it lets you be relaxed in freefall. If you are tense you will potatoe chip all the way down.....Good luck, once you figure out the arch you will be fine!

Tracking troubles but passed AFF
jbanning replied to RB_Hammer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a problem my first time tracking. Did you straighten your legs, and slowly bring your hands back? On my first try I brought my hands back quick and i started a motion like a dolphin jumping out of the water, it was fun but kinda freaky. Just Curious....... -
I was nervous until my last AFF jump, having some fear saves your life, and teaches you how to react to situations and procedures you are being taught....Good luck and have fun!

Thanks, It actually took me 5 mos. to complete. My firt jum was in July. I was taking 2-3 weeks in between jumps, but now if it is more than a week it seems like an eternity. One thing I realized on the last jump by myself is actually how long you do have up there. When you have a AFF coach in your face giving you instructions time seems to go much quicker...Be safe ane have fun

I am a 30 year old from St. Pete that just passed his AFF training #7 today. I also did a 2nd "air wash" jump. Just wanted to post on here and say hello. My home DZ is Skydive Tampa Bay near Lakeland.

I am new to the sport of skydiving, I have heard about all the SKYGODS at all the other DZ's in this area, this place all jumpers treat you equal and with respect. Yes it is a small DZ but its heart makes up for its size. They are about to get a King Air to add to their fleet hopefully by the beginning of 2007.........Blue Skies
