  1. That is great! I wish I could get that kind of service on my cell phone and mp3 player! The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  2. Was there any information on the cost of replacing the N3's rechargeable batteries when they wear out? Will battery replacements even be offered? Thanks Jim The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  3. Great point with the breathing! Lt. Col. David Grossman teaches a breathing technique for combat stress that has worked well for me at panic prone moments. Breathe in for a count of 4. Hold for a count of 4. Breathe out for a count of 4. Hold for a count of 4. Repeat for at least three breathing cycles. Hope that helps someone! 4. You offered to sell that 230 or give it away? I can't believe anyone would turn down a free canopy no matter what color it was. The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  5. What are the most important aspects of canopy performance for you? I am sure the really experienced canopy pilots on this site could point you to a canopy you will like if you tell them specifically what you want to do with it. 6. Since I'm not jumping for another week or so due to a car accident and want to keep my head in the game, let me see what lessons I can get from that. Please tell me the ones I miss. I know I have much to learn and would rather learn from others experience than by hurting myself. 1. You are always responsible for your own safety no matter how many people you are jumping with. 2. ALWAYS be altitude aware. An audible doesn't help if you are concentrating on something else hard enough to tune it out. 3. After 2 unsuccessful attempts at deploying main, pull your reserve. 4. Find out in advance what hazards each jump run will have you flying over, then make a plan to avoid them. (With my very limited experience, this might mean staying on the ground till the wind shifts) What didn't I see? The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. 7. Things like this chip away at the already damaged reputation of law enforcement in general. Sadly, things will only get worse. Law enforcement agencies across the country are lowering their hiring standards. The pool of truly qualified applicants to police departments is shrinking. The low pay, poor benefits, terrible work hours, and ever increasing risk of being killed, injured, and/or dragged through the mud on television are not very attractive. Therefore, departments are resorting to hiring people who aren't qualified enough to get a better deal elsewhere. If you don't want less qualified (and possibly less ethical) cops, let your state, county, and city officials know. I hope the majority will push to keep standards high, even if it means spending more to attract the right people. Rant over. Jim The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. 8. Does anyone else find it scary that a rig currently listed in the classifieds as "for a beginner jumper" has a 190 Stiletto main? The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  9. Mirage has a container sizing guide on their website. According to that, in an M3, a sabre 135 fits medium and a 150 fits snug. I would take that to mean that a 170 would be very tight to impossible depending on the size of your reserve. For PD Reserves, it list 143 as medium and 160 as snug. Hope that helps! The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  10. Did you ask the owner of the rig if he/she ever noticed the rsl routing during a gear check? If I was missing something like this on my gear checks for 4 months, I would want someone to show me how to check the rig properly. 11. Can I throw another canopy into the discussion? I've been meaning to email PD and ask why the Spectre is not recommended as a student canopy. I've rented Sabre 1s and 2s and my Spectre is way more forgiving of bad packing technique and body position. Flew nice and stable while I kicked out of 6-8 line twists a couple of weeks ago too. 12. Thank you for the response! I understand the issue now. I consulted a rigger Sunday and he showed me some of the add-on ring set ups. Neither of us really liked how they would look on those risers. I'll just trade them with someone who doesn't use an rsl. I'm very glad to know you are so willing to explain things to a confused customer! The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  13. Thanks for this thread! I recently asked Mirage to add an rsl ring to the risers for my G3 and was told they would not do the mod. I purchased new risers but I'll get a rigger to add a ring to the old ones too. The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  14. Make sure you have the same tension on both leg straps. I learned that one the hard way on my second training jump. Bruise bigger than a softball on my left thigh because my right leg strap was just a little loose. The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. Robert A. Heinlein
  15. On the subject of open-face helmets... I'm too new to give advice so this is just me bragging on what i bought. I love my allsport! Heat formed it, and it is soooo quiet. So light and comfortable i have to tap it to remember i'm wearing it.
