  1. my maxtor sits in a drawer under the desk. That may be the slowest EHD ever... I hated mine. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  2. I have about 150 jumps on my Spectre now, and it has progressively started giving me "hard" openings. I have had a number of different people jump and pack it, all with the same result. We never really came up with a solid explanation for why, but basically just decided things were getting out of trim and it may be time for a new line set as well. (has about 400 jumps on it). Here is a short video of one of these strange openings. The slider shoots straight down over the toggles and into my face, which was especially NOT desirable at the time because I was using a large borrowed still lens (hence the lens sticking way out in the frame... this was the first day I was using it--sorry). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0PNKPut7N0 The openings were not what I would call "soft" either. I eventually started using direct slider control, and that dramatically helped the problem and should hold me out until i send it to PD and let them do what they will with it. and for your viewing pleasure, here is the worst opening I have ever had (knock on wood), and it was on my Spectre. You can't see in the video, but I was tracking away from the formation and had somebody else from the group ahead of us tracking underneath me. I quickly stopped my track and pulled because I saw them waving off (you can see by the hesitation in my wave-off that I wasn't sure what they were going to do, so I went with "pull now"). I didn't pull in a track, but may have still had SOME forward momentum, however I know the bag didn't hit my feet. This was a paid pack job by my rigger, and this opening resulted in a dislocated rib. Just one of those things.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp_msBRB4jQ Luckily we broke off a little high, so this opening occurred fairly high as well with my panic pull. I am still perplexed as to why I myself got spun around so much on the opening along with the line twists.... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  3. I don't go to the Speakers Corner Much. And I obviously am very un-interested in what women have to say. I know where my cyber-priorities lie, apparently It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  4. So for years I watched the Nation's hot dog eating contest on TV hoping SOMEBODY would beat Kobiyashi, the 90-pound asian wonder-eater. My friends and I threw parties and everything to watch the eating events. Well then a few years ago this guy Joey Chestnut shows up. White, goofy American guy. I cheered that guy on throughout all his second-place finishes. Well then I move to college. One day, I am sitting in physics last year and I saw him walk in the room. It didn't register, at first, but he looked familiar. Then it clicked, and i freaked out. It never occurred to me that he lived here in San Jose! I ran up and talked to him and he is a pretty mellow guy. A pretty mellow guy who the second time I hung out with, chugged a gallon of milk in a matter of a couple minutes. Cold milk. and he would stop to talk every few gulps. The guy is amazing. Well the funniest part is nobody around here knows him, or what he does. It's not a very glorified sport, competitive eating. But every time i see him, i give him some fan love. He lives just a couple streets over from me and I see him all the time at 7-11, haha! Anyway, now that I have established I know this guy, Amazing. Might I add, his chugging skills come in awful handy around gallons of beer?.... for him, at least. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  5. On an average day, I use AV and leave it at 7.0-8.0. That's just a general, not-too-worried-about-it setting. Shooting in JPEG (L) because the memory isn't quick/big enough to shoot in RAW on the Rebel (assuming you just wanna squeeze and let it go- RAW will shoot about 4-5 pictures then one about every second after that... blah) But yes, as previously stated, if you are looking for something to print and hang on your wall, not one single setting will work. But form my personal experience, the above works just fine for me and produces many great photographs. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  6. My first earthquake, finally!!!!!!! I live on the top (15th) floor of a building in San Jose. I can't think of anything to say other than was a fucking rush to look out the window and watch the building sway like that. 7. Actually, I think my initial post sounded a little more depressed than i actually am... I just thought I would share the irony with everybody! It's really not so bad. I just think I wanted that pizza so much, that it was a big let-down. Look at my fridge! I'll be MUCH happier later tonight.... gonna put that Bob Barker costume on again and party it up! It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  8. Oh, I actually have multiple jobs. There was a serious error at my bank (partially my fault, partially theirs) that has stopped the transfer of money into my account, which I didn't know until it got overdrawn and then locked. Should be all resolved in the next few days.... this bowl of chili better go a loooong way! It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  9. Ummm, well, yes. . . . Funny, that wasn't the first thing *I* thought of! Let's just say he knows some weird people, and that makes for some entertaining stories! No matter how rough a day might be going.... I can always perk up by reminding myself that I don't have to fuss with twisted ovaries! Anybody can feel free to use that one... unless, of course.... they have twisted ovaries. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  10. Mmmm... that would have been fantastic! (that place is retardedly addicting) It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  11. Birthday update: Just dug deep into our fridge (yes- it is the perfect college stereotype.... all alcohol, no food) and found 3 REALLY old hotdogs, and half a can of Hormel from god knows when. I microwaved the chili with a few slices of cheese on top of it, boiled the hotdogs (which softened up nicely) and had a pretty tasty little snack. Here the proof: http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/IMG_0684.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/IMG_0685.jpg Here is probably why we never have money: http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/IMG_0589.jpg edit to add: I noticed in the picture there is lettuce on the bottom shelf. I bet that's been in there forever.... obviously we always look straight past it. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  12. So I am sitting here at my desk, just got done with my first class of the day and was reflecting on some things.... Today is my birthday. The big two-oh. I decided I wanted to go get a hair cut (much needed) and eat some pizza to celebrate with myself. I go to the ATM, and decide I should check my account balance before the withdrawal..... $19.50. Nevermind. Walk around the little ATM sub-station to my other bank...... $15.00. Nevermind. Go to the third and final ATM option.... the joint account with my parents.... $25.00. Yeah! Do my business.... it spits out the $20, I take my card, and my phone rings. It's my father, who I haven't spoke to in months. (parents divorced, mom re-married for 8 years now, don't speak to real daddy much). So we talk, for quite a while. I walk to the pizza place while we do. Finish the conversation, order, pay..... oh wait. Congratulations to me on answering the phone, grabbing my card, and leaving the twenty in the ATM. Holy hell... So, due to complications in getting paid I have officially hit financial rock bottom. I go to my barber and tell him I just need to relax, I have no cash, it's my birthday. He hooks it up. So now my head feels better, but I am pretty bummed out. I have enough money for gas to get to the dropzone, and not jump.... no carpools.... I GUESS I could do homework, but.... haha! It's my birthday. If I can't do what I want to do, there's no way I'm doing something I don't want to do. So I have chosen to take the day off, and sit here, and do nothing. I couldn't be more excited about it either! It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  13. I have used many different EHD's and have had experience with the really high-end ones (including the one made by ferrari/ by a ferrari engineer?). I have found that the MyBook is a FANTASTIC choice. It is very reasonable priced, comes in a very wide variety of sizes, and has a long warranty (3 years I think?). I use it with the Firewire 800 (which will be standard on your mac) and it is incredibly fast, almost as fast as the internal. Also, a little perk is the lighting on the front; it has two rings, one which indicates its current status (sleeping, thinking, awake....) and another which indicates how full it is. I never see it because it is stored away, but i guess the idea is good and fun. I have traveled with it and it does just fine. In addition, it has firewire 400 and usb 2.0 ports so you can use it with any computer, and can also plug in multiple computers to the same drive (6 on mine I believe.....). Some have said their experience with it was not so good... been using mine for about a year now, I love it. Just my two cents. Here is the one I use. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=12FAD2A7&fnode=home/shop_mac/mac_accessories/storage&nplm=TN907ZM/A It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  14. I really like it. It is a quick, cheap solution to having multiple lenses. THe only problem was I mounted everything on the helmet with the adapter off, so when i put it on it sticks out in the video frame a bit. Easy fix. When I am on my home computer I will send some samples.... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  15. Unfortunately most pictures of me working, I never get to see again. But here is a few I found laying around... I have since modified the FTP (mainy work with the ringsight-- nylon screws, etc.). Taken by an observer while a student took their dear sweet time following me out the door It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  16. Mine is a picture from my 50th jump and 19th birthday party which was a day of balloon jumps for the whole DZ. I love this picture because it is so full of happy emotions. Tongue sticking out, both hands throwing the "rock-on" sign.... what a memory! (I also jumped out of my family's balloon.) A shot from he jump was actually used in an ad for the 06 holiday boogie.... 17. Chuck Norris is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  18. I don't usually care about the new gear posts... but I must tell you, very well done. Very snazzy. The only thing I would change would be the reserve handle to a pillow, and then have it all fitted for me. Damn, you even got the colors right... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  19. Go to the Frontier restaurant. It defines the last 5 or 6 years of my life. It's kinda like fast food, except it's home-cooked. and amazing. You really can't describe it, it has to be experienced. Which is exactly what it is... an experience. Go around 2 in the morning and you will see everything from crack heads to celebrities, sitting at tables right next to each other. It's very unique. When I was home from college this summer I was there at least 5 nights a week. Get 2 carne adovada burritos and a sweet roll.... dip the burritos in the free chile sitting in the cauldron's next to the silverware. You can thank me when your trip is over... 20. I travel with my rig about every 6 weeks or so. I have never run into a problem. Just keep a copy of the AAD x-ray (if you have one--Airtec provides a handy one with a Cypress). It basically says they can't deny you because of your rig. I have even left my hook knife on my chest strap a few times and they never said a thing. 21. Zee... I feel now after seeing your pictures that I should know you... but nothing is popping up in the ol' brain right now. Nice pics! I miss home... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  22. The game was so kickass! First question... who were the two red bull demo team members who jumped at halftime? I of course got a million questions as to why I didn't do it... i didn't take the time to explain. So... who was it? It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  23. Well, we have been hyping this football game up for weeks now (SJSU vs. Hawaii). The day has finally come. I really don't think we stand a chance at winning, but that's not what we're excited about. We are excited because the game will be on ESPN, and 3 of my buddies and I are painting our bodies and wearing crazy fuzzy wigs, socks on our arms, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary... we were just so excited because we will be front row at the game in the student section. Our fronts will say SJSU and backs will say ESPN. The only downside is now it's raining... hard. And cold. And we have committed, and now I am going to be sick for many many weeks because of this. If you're not doing anything else... at least watch! (I will be in the yellow wig.... we are guaranteed to get on TV at least a few times!) 25. yeah, I recently spent some time with a guy at our DZ who did 50 on his 50th. He was telling me the exact same thing, that the plane ride was the worst part of the whole thing. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
