  1. Well, if you jump at a DZ with some good instructors, get some instruction. Get somebody to film your landings, review the footage with more current skydivers. Good luck!
  2. From the Incidents forum: "During the jump, the man thought something was wrong with his main parachute, so he pulled his reserve parachute, but he did so without releasing his main parachute first, Longmont Fire Battalion Chief Monty Richardson said. The two parachutes tangled, which caused the man to fall to the ground at an estimated 40 mph, Richardson said." Even though there is a good amount of information missing, this seems amazingly detailed for a news article. Much better than the "parachute failed" reports we normally see. I wish more reporting agencies cared enough to make a more-complete story like this. I also hope the skydiver comes out okay in the end. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3324003;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  3. Congratz dude. How was your pie? Also, great hybrid .
  4. Even if i was ever silly enough to get married - I will never be tired of giving hummers Wow, I came into this thread to complain about the hummer add. But instead, you just made me smile. :)
  5. I've worked with several blind(or, mostly blind) dogs before. When you call them, if they are having problems, try calling again with a lower tone. It worked with one dog in particular. You'd kind of say her name after you called her with a deep voice, and she could locate where the sound was coming from. Good luck. As far as I'm concerned if the dog seems happy and pain free, then keep them around as long as possible.
  6. security or safety.. That is a vastly oversimplified question. Security and safety are both subjective, qualitative terms. Any answer wouldn't be meaningful. There really isn't any "security equipment" missing. As for the most common injury. That would probably be hurt egos incurred while saying stupid shit while around skydivers. (example: asking if people want more security or safety in skydiving) Or, a close second most common injury would probably be from high fat, high corn syrup, high sodium, and high cholesterol levels incurred by eating from the local Macdonald's instead of eating your normal, healthier meal.
  7. At least once a year. Dang, I guess I'm out of the loop. I did search the forums a bit for this, but there was so many returns for my search, I couldn't find anything.
  8. I just came across one of those "worlds stupidest laws sites, and it states: 2. In the state of Florida if a single woman parachutes out of an airplane on a Saturday she risks doing jail-time. From: http://blog.hotelclub.com/the-worlds-10-stupidest-laws/ Is this accurate? If so, WTF? It sounds like base jumping on Saturday might be okay. Has anybody heard of this before?
  9. Hope your doing alright. Are you still on lots of drugs? How well are you getting around?
  10. Wow, they were able to remove that? That's a heck of a conversation piece you have on your TV.
  11. I don't know. I'm pretty sure your in.(and, as far as I'm concerned you are) Every time I've been around when there is heavy metal loads, the call is always something like "if you've got metal in you, get on the load" Looks like the Eiffel tower ehh? Got pictures?
  12. Ooo, I'm sorry to hear that. Skydiving related? I wish you a speedy repair!
  13. Oooph, that's a good amount of rework on your knee. How you feeling? Are you on crutches yet?
  14. Ahh! great! Thanks. That answers that question.
  15. I'm getting a ligament from a cadaver put into me to replace the ACL I tore about a month ago. I am a person that gives blood about every 4 months. Anybody else had material transplanted into them, then tried to give blood? Does the transplant negate me from giving blood for a while? For ever? I am not finding the info I need from the red crosses website.
  16. So I injured myself skydiving about a month ago. Bad downwind landing, I stopped flying my canopy. Anyhow, I tore my ACL in my left knee, and now I'm going in for surgery to get a new ACL. So it turns out that the screws that they will be using will be made of some NON-METALLIC material that will degrade and be absorbed by my body. So, even though I'll have screws in me, I guess I won't be able to participate in the heavy metal jumps because I have no metal in me. I suppose that's a good thing. Anybody else have this experience?
  17. So I'm a little confused by your "234V *on the entire circuit, not just that motor*" statement. You should have 4 wires going into that motor, L1, L2, L3, and neutral. First off, make sure you have a true-RMS voltmeter, or your measurements can be off quite a bit. L1 to neutral should read 108-118 L2 to neutral should read 108-118 L3 to neutral should read 205-210 you should read 240 V between any two phases L3 is called the high line, it should be a orange or red wire. If you misswired the high line to one of the other poles, you can blow out the motor, or, often you will blow out one of the fusible links going to the motor. If you get a single fuse burn out somewhere in the system, you can burn up a motor winding. (this problem is the a reason that you will often see a separate fuse box right at the motor) Check for fuses on your device, go to the circuit breaker, check the voltages on all three legs coming out of the breaker(check the voltages going into the breaker panel if you want). You need to be getting voltage the whole way from the incoming line to the motor. Sorry to hear about this, those motors can get pricey.
  18. Thanks for the chart, it looks like it's good data. And I think that your making the point that the way you pay for a car can drastically change how much you spend on it. I've seen auto loans that make the customer pay twice as much for the car as it's worth. Paying for most of a car outright saves you gigantic amounts of money. Also, buying a fuel efficient car is about more than saving money. It's also about environmental responsibility.
  19. Do you tow that thing all of the time? I imagine that most of the time your driving that truck your not towing anything. You could still spend a couple of grand on a used honda or toyota and save the environment, not to mention some money. There is some girl in my office that uses that excuse for driving her sky killer. She's towed a trailer once last year. I need to tow something once in a while(about twice/year), I will normal rent something for that weekend when I do. Sometimes I can borrow something from a friend. I'm just saying that you need to think about the logic of that excuse before you use it.
  20. Ahh, that's great. I wish I could have started then. What's the minimum driving age where you live?
  21. It doesn't matter the statue is still under 18.
  22. Or you could(and should) always drink more.
  23. speed traps give them money. Investigating crimes does not.
  24. actually yeah. I'm glad that I lost my keys last year. I highly recommend staying through Monday. :) I'm trying to work in staying late this year also. Luv ya all too1 :)
