If i found a hill like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwdLOUg9-7M One with a good slope and clear from obstacles. Would be a good place to ground launch my canopy for someone who is just used to handling it from the usual 3.5k opening. I feel comfortable with my canopy and confident but just wondering what other advice people had. I'm about 60kg on a fair docile F111 170sqf. I assume a nice steady 10mph headwind would help when running down the hill trying to get airborne?

yes

Any one ever ground launched off a building or is that just bloody stupid?
-
Are you sure that is correct? I mean any newbie can rock along with a new rig and jump it without anyone even watching to see who packed it? Not saying this does happen but it could.
-
So you were jumping your own rig before you were signed off? Did you even tell them or just get on the plane? I havent actually jumped my rig yuet. Only just got it all together.
-
During my AFF on some rainy days i was taught to pack. Also go the whole thing on video to reference from. Anyway i have recently got my A and have slowly been putting together rig which is now complete. So i have packed it loads of times from start to finish and taken the whole thing apart so know the rig off by herart. I feel totally confident about jumping it. Do i still need to take a packing course or can someone just check I can do it properly and sign me off? Any advice would be good especially from anyone based in the UK.

Blimey,,, your surname isn't Lutz is it?

On a jump, and once you have opened.... is there anything wrong and will a DZ frown upon it, if you fly close to another canopy. Of course i mean if you have already agreed it with whoever you are flying close to. So if the other canopy knows you're there and flying by the side of each other... anything wrong with that?

There is a cost for everything.

sounds like you're maybe a bit defensive... maybe its not that fact that u said no,,, maybe its the way u said it -
I think the more advanced skydivers and instructors needs to be a little more clear as to what is accepted and what is not on the DZ. I could have easily gone around telling people about this not know it could land the pilot and DZ in the shitter. It also happened on another occaision when the instructor had a go at me for discussing something that happened. I was like how on earth was i meant to know, no ones tells me what is and isn't legit. So when a plane dives by the side of me and people just laugh about it,,, as a student you kinda assume it is legit.

northcave replied to Freefallwizard's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
maybe just get your quote,, i did my hop n pop straight after level 7 and looked forward to being able to launch myself out with the instructor next to me. Trust me u got 10 secs to get stable. You could get a cup of tea in brewed up in that time -
Got my last two Consol jumps yesterday and now got my A. After flipping 6 months its about time! The british weather doesn't allow for much progression. Anyway the last jump was pretty cool and opened at 3.5k right next to a small cloud. My first experience of cloud surfing! Managed to avoid a dunking when i got down somehow. I'm sure it'll come back to haunt me. Blue Skies Baby, blue skies!

lol agreed. pure cheese-ball

If you deffo want to learnt o skydive then go straight into AFF. I didn;t even do a tandem before going into it since i knew i wanted to learn. However if you're still unsure do another tandem but don't be fooled into thinking you'll learn anything from the tandem which will help u in AFF. AFF you are in control, tandem you are a passenger. And i thought i was alone on this one... however the real problem came when i refused to give the girlfriend some loving without it on.
-
I recon that if you hadn't whitnessed freefall and that you fell off a building,,, accidently,,,, (and didn't want to commit suicide),,,, then you may well have a heart murmer or two. If however you were a skydiver and accidently fell off a large building,,, i think you'd put on a hard arch. Maybe get a couple of flips in just for the hell of it. Probably go for a bit of freefly just before impact into the plf.

Skydiving and Pressure equalization on ears
northcave replied to anccert's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Crikey.... Being a suba diver and having burst an ear drum i have a little experience with this.... it seems like you're gonna have problems. If you did one tandem and had that much of a problem i would seriously consider not jumping at all. It is worth keeping your hearing. Or at least not trying to jump through it..... i tried that diving and put a hole in my ear drum... not nice. That feeling of thinking they need to pop but you can,t is the result of some serious over pressuring. Thats why it took so long for your ear drum to heal and get back into shape. If you can;t fix it with decongestants then you need a small operation on the sinus tubes. but i WOULDN'T go jump anst"deal witht the pain". You'll burst your drum and end up not being able to have a shower for a month. So thats the good news,, who wantsd the bad.. -
A very valid point

I nearly get hit by birds just walking down the street. Has any or does anyone know of anyone who has impacted with a bird in freefall? I mean,,, thats gotta hurt right!!!
-
Unlucky ..http://youtube.com/watch?v=3hb4wfwKcEY What happened here. Were his cut away wires pulled through?
-
Easy now children... half my comment was to see what others have done and their experiences of clouds under canopy,,, or as it was very well put "swooping clouds".

Freeflying makes you a better belly flyer?
northcave replied to RB_Hammer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
surely adding diversity to your skills simply would make you a better skydiver. If you continue to do the same as always then you won't be ready for the unexpected. So in my eyes then learning to freefly would make u an all-round better skydiver. This does not assume freeflyers are better skydiver though. -
where is that?
