  1. Hmmm, sounds like a good human factors related project for the upcoming semester. If the oppurtunity arises, I'll look into that. I did a research project on using vibrating devices known as tactors to help prevent spatial disorientation in fighter pilots last year. That seemed to work for them, though the system is not yet practical as far as bulk of equipment is concerned. However, I like the idea of a vibrating altimiter. LOL, nice, the semester hasnt even started and I already have a report topic. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
  2. Well, the plastic mount that holds the jack broke as well. Besides, those parts are so small. I would be worried about not disposing enough of the heat in the process and frying other parts. I wonder if I have to just replace the whole motherboard. Eek ! ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
  3. LOL, that's exactly what I said lastnight. Oh well, maybe I can use it as a way of justifying the purchase of a new laptop. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
  4. Nope, no warranty. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
  5. Okay, I know there are a lot of you out there that know computers in and out. My compaq laptop proved that ya get what ya pay for last night when the jack in the back of the computer that the power cable plugs into actually separated from the circuit board that it was attached to. Anybody have any idea what it would take to fix that, and how much it would cost? ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
  6. Well, it's finally the last class day of the semester. Unfortunately, I stayed up all night slaving over several reports. Now, here I am sitting in the computer lab trying to proofread one of them and cant keep my eyes open. If anybody wants to proofread a report on commerical airliner cabin safety, feel free to tell me and I'll send it to ya! If I can just make it to 5 o'clock I'll be fine. But how am I going to do that? Two boring classes, work, and a group project meeting between now and then. Arrgghhh!! Anybody have and good remedies for extreme tiredness other than the obvious coffee and no-doze?
  7. Ok, so for all of you that have received treatment for a skydiving related injury, and had your insurance cover it: what company are you with??
  8. "unecessary risk": Their terminology, not mine. :)
  9. So what American insurance companies will cover you if you get injured while skydiving? I'm on my parent's Blue Cross PPO plan and I dont think that it would cover me. I know my life insurance policy doesnt cover skydiving, as it is considered an "unnecessary risk." Not sure about the health insurance.
  10. NOTHING!! In the world is safe. Everything causes cancer, germs float around everywhere, people want to kill you, other people are ignorant and will kill you accidentally, you could be seriously mamed while simply taking a wiz as a meteor crashes through your roof and hits you while yer sitting on the can. Life is a risk. The risk is not that you will die. It is that you will die without ever having really lived. Yes safety is important in the sport, no it's not safe (what is?), but come on, he was making an innocent comment about a commercial here. His point: skydiving does not kill everybody on 100% of every jump made as portrayed. That's it.
  11. Whoa, I think all that he originally meant is that the media and the general population seem to believe that skydivers have the mortality rate of rookie WWI fighter pilots. Dont be so quick to start the flaming. I'm sure he respects the sport and knows of it's dangers. And if not, may God/ Allah/ Rah/ Buddah/ etc. have mercy on his soul.
  12. Found this on the Wesh-2 news website in orlando: Body Of Missing Skydiver Found Veteran Skydiver Disappeared Monday Afternoon Posted: 9:44 a.m. EDT April 9, 2002 Updated: 11:10 a.m. EDT April 9, 2002 DELAND, Fla. -- The body of a missing skydiver was found in DeLand Tuesday morning. Missing Skydiver's Body Recovered Rescuers resumed their ground search early Tuesday at the DeLand Municipal Airport, off U.S. Highway 92, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported. David Hoven, 72, of Sorrento, was reported missing shortly after making his jump, officials said. A witness said Hoven's parachute failed to open. "I don't really want to go into the specifics of how we found him, but it was a difficult search," Volusia County Fire Services Lt. Phil Broom said. Hoven was a veteran skydiver with more than 1,300 previous jumps, witnesses said. Copyright 2002 by NewsChannel2000. All rights reserved. 13. Wow, thanks for all of that info. It really helped me piece together all of the little pieces of information that I found. By the way, I'm not a pilot (other than a canopy pilot). I'm a Human Factors major. We're suppose to be the ones that come up with all of that CRM stuff and make sure that you have a comfortable chair and a big enough cup-holder.
  14. I dont suppose you know what trans-cockpit authority gradient is? I'm suppose to right a 250 word essay on it, but i can't find anything on it, other than when it is briefly refered to in ntsb/ faa accident reports. If ya know anything, yer knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Outstanding!!! You're totally right, just because you are with him does not mean that you have to give up your control over your life. And if he is a real man with confidence, he'll understand that, and he'll use the time to go do something that he wants to do.

    wtf?

That happens to me a lot. I have to hit refresh three times before the forums display right. Sometimes, I'll just get a blank screen and it will say 'done' at the bottom. Sometimes it will be blank except for the banner advertisement. Sometimes it will display the HTML code. Stupid school computers. You would think that a school that prides itself as a leader in aviation and technology would have up to date and working computer equipment. Oh well. One more year to go.
  17. On the front page here at dropzone.com, there is a link for an article entitled "World Freefall Convention may land in Rantoul" My questions is, in the picture to the left of the link, what is that guy holding on to??
  18. I failed level two because my legs were everywhere. I worked that problem out in the wind tunnel and passed every level thereafter. The tunnel is a great tool, but I wouldnt look at it as a solution. I would hold off on the tunnel idea until you discover what your weaknesses are. Then, you can use the tunnel to work those weaknesses out.
  19. As if proliferating the earth with cheesy teeny-bopper icons wasn't enough.... http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1452464/20020220/n_sync.jhtml?headlines=true Now, I'm all for space tourism, but when it's just for publicity, that really cheapens the whole idea of going to space. If this actually happens, and he actually goes, space will never be the same again. If I was an astronaut that worked my ass off to be as such, or I was a space tourist that worked my ass of for the the 20 million dollars to go, I'd be so friggin furious.
  20. I dont know what pisses me off more....the fact that the dog was killed, or the fack that whoever wrote that has never heard of the letter "S". Go watch some Sesame Street.
  21. That last comment about rounds got me thinking. Most of my jumps have been with round reserves, and probably will be until I buy my own gear. Any insight about two canopies out when the reserve is round??
  22. Ok, so say you do have to chop those risers...is there any right way to do that? Seems to me if you chop one at a time, the situation could get even more violent until it's all chopped off. How can you do it in such a way that the situation doesnt degrade to the point that you cant complete what you are trying to accomplish?
  23. Thanx everybody, that's good news. I have been to the jumpbubble store in deland, but everytime i go, it's closed. I guess next time I jump, I'll just ask whoever is working in the gear store for her phone number and stuff.
  24. I"m in the market for a new jumpsuit, and I really want a jumpbubble suit, but I keep hearing different stories. I've heard that they have gone out of business, and I've also heard that the location of business was moved. I noticed the website is gone too.
