  1. Already DID turn one of them in. Don't ask, I'm not divulging any more info. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  2. Radio Shack sells something called Supermount tape, and it's REALLY strong. I suspect you could mount fenders on a car with it! Check it out, perhaps it will help your audible stay put too. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  3. Try ParaGear. If they don't have them, you're probably out of luck. All gone. Maureen said she took all the remaining stock to the GOODWILL STORE about 10 years ago since they were no longer selling! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  4. You just found out one of the great truths of skydiving -- when the chips are down, you WILL do what you've been trained to do. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  5. You know, just about every time the airplane lines up on the runway, and the pilot opens the throttle, I have a similar thought -- "Well, you've done it now!" I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  6. I never heard that before; in fact I believe the Strato-Flyer became the first square reserve. They were d-bag deployed originally, but of course a lot of people got into the free packing thing (not me). I have a hand full of jumps on one and stood it up every time (135lbs) though not as easily as my Strato-Star. Sorry for the delay, I've been on the road for a week. You may be right. Truthfully, I had forgottenb about the Strato Star. I tend to think in terms of Strato-5 cell and Strato-7 cell. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  7. I had a pair of the bigger ones & wish I had another pair! Anybody know of a source? I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  8. I agree with SStewart -- I don't care which side of the aisle she is on, I'm just glad to see her battling back from where that punk put her. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  9. Doesn't it seem like EVERYBODY today wants to fly a camera? I started jumping with an 8MM movie camera on my helmet at about 60 jumps. Today, I think that was a stupid mistake I made, and I won't jump with one now. I may NEVER jump with a camera again, it just isn't in my list of priorities, and it's too big of a distraction at my skill level. The only exception might be one like http://www.hobby-lobby.com/video_camera.htm or http://www.hobby-lobby.com/flycamone_eco_v2_532847_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=1663259 but ONLY if I could forget it was there. Not likely. But I sure would like to show my friends and family just what happens up there. I just don't want to do so bad enough to risk injury or worse. Guess I've turned a very conservative streak as I've gotten older. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  10. DON'T jump it if there's much turbulence in the air, those canopies are somewhat sensitive to turbulent air and will sometimes collapse and drop you in from 60 feet or so. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  11. I don't know what it costs, but if I had my choice, it would be a CH-53. Holds something like 20 or 30 skydivers, and climbs to altitude FAST. As a bonus, you can operate it from almost any open field. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  12. The Northern Training Area -- NTA -- Okinawa, 1980. Prettiest island I've ever seen! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  13. I believe plane #1 to be a Lockheed Electra. Airplane #2 is possibly a Piaggio P180 or a Beechcraft Starship. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  14. I would guess -- and you have to realize my history, and the fact that I was away from skydiving for effectively 28 years -- but my guess is that, if you return to the same DZ you've been jumping at -- they would probably work on landings with you for a bit, and require one or possibly two jumps with an instructor. At a minimum, I would think the SIM would be reviewed. Hope this all helps, and you might actually GO TO the DZ and speak to an instructor or the S&TA about it. They're all hoping to see your face anyway! Section 5-2 of the SIM says: "A. Students Students who have not jumped within the preceding 30 days should make at least one jump under the direct supervision of an appropriately rated USPA Instructor." and "D. Long lay-offs 1. Jumpers should receive refresher training appropriate for their skydiving history and time since their last skydive. a. Jumpers who were very experienced and current but became inactive for a year or more should undergo thorough training upon returning to the sport. b. Skydivers who historically jump infrequently should review training after layoffs of even less than a year. 2. Skydiving equipment, techniques, and procedures change frequently. a. During recurrency training following long periods of inactivity, jumpers may be introduced to new and unfamiliar equipment and techniques. b. Procedures change to accommodate developments in equipment, aircraft, flying styles, FAA rules, and local drop zone requirements. 3. Returning skydivers require thorough practical training in the following subject areas: a. aircraft procedures b. equipment c. exit and freefall procedures d. canopy control and landings e. emergency procedures" I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  15. I don't remember -- did you get your license yet? BTW, sorry about your injury. I bet it hurts, it's frustrating, etc... I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  16. I'm thinking there IS etiquette in this sport, and it all revolves around beer! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  17. 31 out of 33 correctly — 93.94 % I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  18. I'm so old that MINE are Mark .0's! I probably shouldn't have posted that without also adding that I once forgot my altimeter and we were already on the taxiway when I realized it. "It's all right guys, when I see you dump, I'll dump, too." Didn't work. I ended up below 500 feet under my reserve. Not fun. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  19. I'm so old that MINE are Mark .0's! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  20. I'VE heard that they get stable, but BACK to Earth. Years ago, I knew a guy who put his cat inside his jumpsuit for one jump. He said the cat stuck his head out by my friends neck and took a look while in freefall, then went WILD trying to get back inside the jumpsuit as far as he could! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.

My rig is 32,000+ EMPTY. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  22. GOD BLESS YOU, SPARKY! Earl USMC 77-81 USAF 83-99 (RET) I was in the first year that didn't get lottery numbers. I was class 1H, which meant "holding". However, I DO remember my draft card numbers, even though the Marine Drill Instructors took them away from me and I never saw them again -- 41 35 54 0390 I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  23. The manual I referenced earlier quotes a rate of descent for a Mk 1 of 15.7 FPS with 190 pounds. I'd say that the maximum allowable rate of descent is based on what the individual can tolerate. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  24. With the water jet, I noticed that the hose was caught around the corner of the pier -- not exactly a "kill switch" mistake. I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
  25. Sounds like it's gonna be a helluva beer load! I'm a jumper. Even though I don't always have money for jumps, and may not ever own a rig again, I'll always be a jumper.
