Anyone ever powder coat, paint, plasti dip their reserve handle?
jerolim replied to kilroywashere's topic in Gear and Rigging
Reason (as mr. Booth explained somewhere) is cutaway cables are not loaded until main is not opened. So if cutaway handle gets dislodged it has to be ultralight to stay in place (friction of cable in housing holds it in place). Reserve handle can be heavier as it stays in its place as reserve packjob is holding reserve pin. -
I think that this is part of removable slider.

Strong Wrap Single Point release risers wanted.

Are you goint to jump it -
I really like concept for this MARD (that I have seen in pictures). For me I only see a potential of MARD cordura cover flap being caught in spectra loop. If this happens you have just tied mailf. main to your back ;( I would be happier if Mirage would put some velcro or tucktabs to sides of mard panel,...

This one ? http://www.sidsrigging.com/articles/stitchless_fingertrap.htm I just googled "stitchless fingertrap", and found it as second result,..

Does any one knows if "split system" can be used on Pfaff 142 double needle machine. I am worried that it would restrisct movement of needle bar,...

Hi Ray, Can you provide pictures of this ?

Once again great advice from you. I just wanted to add that you don't have to use gun cleaning rod, you can use small fingertrapping fid to reinsert a new kill line. You have to bunch bridle "skin" over fid and to remove some "skin" from end of the fid. This way fid with new kill line travels from end to another,... Together with sewless fingertrap method http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=TECH&PageID=Nosewtrap&SortBy=TITLE_A you can replace kill line in field (if you have a spool of spectra with you).

I am sorry to say but your gear is not airworthy any more! You can send it to me I will use it for scientific experiment, how many jumps your gear can can make after this horrific event. On the serious side, usually (if your line set good condition) hard openings tend to damage (rip) canopy fabric. Check material near cell seams and near tail. Check port holes also. If ripstop mesh is not deformed anywhere, you are ok to continue jumping.

Hi master riggers, I have been using schmetz needles (standard Round point tip) sizes 140-160 for heavy container cordura work. I have noticed on small step wide zigzags needle heats up to the point that it can be bearly touched with finger and it melts upper thread's strand. This results in mess in needle's eye, skipped stitches and upper thread breaking. In normal straight stitches I am going much slower so this problem is not so significant. I tried cooling needle with silicone spray and it helps a little. If I go slow enough and stop after few centimeters (and wait for needle to cool off) stitching looks beautiful. When I remove fabric from machine, and step on it - heating of needle problem disapears. So, I am sure it is due to needle (or upper thread) in cordura friction. Is there any other remedy to this problem ?

I don't own Sigma any more but, I always claimed that those golf balls are snagpoints. Any you may want to check kill line lenght on that drougle also (if it schrinks too much long, long trapdoor can cause more problems). http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/Support/Rigging/INSTRUCT-0-6-Drogue-Kill-Line-Calibration.pdf What I also don't like @Sigmas is cutaway handle size. It is huge, has insert inside and it is sticking out, just waiting to be snagged by right toggle if student decides to drops it from certant position. Much better for cuttaway handle is this way : http://www.rawa.hu/img/p/201-356-thickbox.jpg I meen Sigmas are great but those 2 things always buged me. And Bill Booth thank you for: disk release system, safety pin, skyhook and magnetic riser covers. Those things I like very much

This is true if you have newer machine. But I have one machine (Durkopp) in my arsenal witch is built after WW II in eastern Germany. There are no parts avaliable for this machine in the world. So I had to repair those feed dogs. Without them my machine can be used only as ancor.
-
Feed dogs can be adjusted to how much they go up over the plate and they can be sharpened. But I would call repairman. I usually adjust pressure on pressure foot, so it just doesn't lift a fabrics when needle is taveling up. So it is not on maximum pressure. Also what helped me a lot (especially with zigzags) is plastic presser foot that has a groove for upper stitching to pass trough foot.

Congratulations!

why disconnect the RSL prior to main cutaway in a side-by-side?
jerolim replied to mixedup's topic in Safety and Training
That was already invented by Parachute de France. They had 2 pins from RSL lanyard, and reserve closing loop was 2 loops. Reserve ripcord ends in loop and pulls both RSL pins. http://avstop.com/ac/prh/images/fig2-49.jpg -
I have purchased Singer 45K with table and motor for 230 $ I will also check my lottery ticket today,... It sews trough 5 layers of Type 7 without effort with not lubed Cord #5 Now I only need to convert 220 V 3 phase motor to single phase 220 V outlet.
-
Will it sew trough 4-5 layers of type 7, type 8 and type 17?
-
How about Singer 45K92 ? Is that one good enough for cord 5 harness sewing ?

I could swear that I saw brown/brass grommets on Aerodyne Icon's freebag from 2005 or from 2006. I think also Vortex2 uses brass grommets on freebags,..
-
Jerry, what grommets (brown) are used on freebags (where safetystow bunge exits) ?

KAP 3 had 2 modes. Mode 1) You set activation altitude to 4000 meters, and it will pull ripcord (spring loaded main), after 5 seconds when pin is removed. Pin was usually connected to aircraft's static line anchor point with long line. Mode 2) You set activation altitude to (let's say) 800 meters, you can remove pin in plane, it will count down to 1 second, and stop. Then you can jump, and after falling below 800 meters, KAP will continue counting for 1 second and pull your main ripcord.
