If you have a big TV (LCD/Plasma/Unobtanium) screen, you may want to look into getting some sort of plexi-shield put on it to keep it from being destroyed when the WiiRemote comes out of the hand of the kid who didn't want to use the wrist-strap. Yes, it has happened many times. Just Google. The only other things that I would recommend are a Wi-Fi connection, and some good games. It is a good console for game-type games (if you get one, you will understand). The best feature is the WiiRemote UI. The rest of the unit is not up to par with the other two major G4 units. I like mine, and just played 3 hours of Tiger Woods 09 and MarioKart. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

When do you consider yourself a "skydiver"
denete replied to mitsuman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A first tandem does not a skydiver make. A TI could strap a sack of potatoes to his rig and jump. Would the sack of potatoes then be considered a skydiver? I like to think of it this way: You are a skydiver when the only way that you are going to get back on the ground alive is if you make it happen. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -
After my 8th jump when I couldn't find the dz and picked a nice big muddy field to land in, I had a long session with Google Earth. I liked it because you can change the angle you are viewing and area from. I can change a bunch. I never lost the dz again. Amen to that. Before my first "away" boogie, I spent a good amount of time with Google Maps to be sure that I knew what the DZ and surrounding areas looked like. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

I just recently found some good sites for basic math/physics explanations/demonstrations/problems that deal with skydiving. http://www.explorelearning.com/index.cfm?method=cResource.dspDetail&ResourceID=25 http://electron9.phys.utk.edu/phys135d/modules/m5/Friction.htm http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/Phys/mmedia/newtlaws/sd.html http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/Phys/Class/newtlaws/u2l3e.html SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

Painting a Factory Diver helmet...Any problems?
denete replied to jumpjim's topic in Gear and Rigging
Whoever does it for you, just make sure that they account for any mold-release agents that might be on the helmet after manufacturing. There's nothing like hitting it with the first coat and seeing those evil fish-eyes staring back at you. Yup. I must be cool then. I'll be living up in Cumming. Turn those $20 drives to the Farm into $10 drives...carpool! Congrats...and welcome to Cumming! SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

I'm not in manufacturing, but I've had good luck buying in small quantities from http://www.acp-composites.com. They have 5.0 oz. Kevlar 50" (2x2 Twill Weave) for $42.00/yd. The uscomposites.com prices look good though. Just do your research in case they have a per-cut charge that isn't obvious at first glance. I've never dealt with them, but again their prices look good. SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

Could you elaborate on this? What is "cat crap" (other than the obvious)? I've never had my glasses fog up but I don't jump a full-face. This may change, so I'd like to know. My Havok doesn't fog at all. My glasses do fog if I don't do my usual pre-jump "cat crap" application. As far as how I look while wearing it goes...I can't see myself while I'm wearing it, so it doesn't matter. Chin to my chest, I can see my handles. Try one before you buy one. - David SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

I do fine until I get fed a bunch of booze and become bewildered. As for the requests, I stick to chicken, pork, beef, etc. Fish is expensive and takes a bit more care to cook. Any seafood should be boiled with sausage, tater, corn, etc... but that too gets expensive (15 - 20 per person) Mmmm...low country boil (and fixins). Anything wrong with this exit from the plane?
denete replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a screwy exit recently. On an SCR attempt you have to exit unlinked. I had my left foot on the threshold and pushed off with that leg...without thinking about the fact that I didn't have hold of anyone. So, I got my arms in and did a nice spin, then popped my arms and legs out fast to try and stabilize once I was back on the line of flight. Whatever works safely, I guess. 37 second long exit video SCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch) -
