  1. I would have made some already, but it's a spendy little hobby! I'm assuming you're supposed to all of your AFF training within the same couple of weeks (months?) and I can't pay for all of it quite yet Plus eventually there's rig & gear. $$$ "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  2. All set to make debut flight for my 22nd birthday with friend (will be her 21st birthday). So, so, SO very excited. Still want to do AFF training, but am waiting b/c of money and I may be somewhere new within the next 9-12 months. Pharmacy school. But I could end up near Eloy... 3. Get this, all four of my finals are this wednesday . I'll be taking tests from 7:30am until 10pm. Yuck! -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  4. Oh no, sorry. Definitely sounded like a smart-a there. Just so I know what I'm getting into, that's all. As far as the instructors are concerned, I'm going in completely clean slate and expecting them to build me from the ground up. No, I am not a sky god. -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  5. Yeah, I've thought about AFF quite a bit. But it's a little too much responsiblity for my first jump. I want to tandem & simply enjoy the ride first...kind of an experiment to see if skydive is a right fit for me. Obviously if I freak out & or completely freeze up during a tandem jump, significantly less risk than the same during AFF-1. Baby steps to the dropzone... Went out with friends yesterday & brought up skydiving. "I've been thinking alot about skydiving lately..." and I got this look like I was insane. Lol, guess all skydivers are a little bit. Let me tell you, this site is AMAZING. It has been so much help and links to tons of great resources. I have learned a lot here. I'm trying to educate myself on terminology, gear parts, and common problems and cut-away scenarios, etc. etc. Anyways, the more I read the more I'm genuinely interested in the sport, which I guess is a good sign. Which, by the way, what is a line over? I've been trying to figure that out for a while now. I know what line twists are, but I'd really like to see a picture of a line over (whatever that is) -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  6. Got my tax return today & it looks like I'll be able to do my first *ever* jump sooner than expected! Yessss! I am so very excited! -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  7. Could there be any way of searching skydiver profiles? (If that's already possible) I've looked all over DZ.com, but can't find a way to do this, could you point me in the right direction? The reason I'm asking is (1) I am brand new to skydiving and am looking for others at similar skill levels (aka 0-10 dives) who are just getting into the sport (2) I want to get a feel for who & what skill levels are in my general area (3) Searching by DZ to see who calls where "home" -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  8. Plus the more I read & research through DZ.com, the more I realize how much planning and preparation there is with this sport. Not that I thought people go jumping out of planes willy nilly, but I never realized how incredibly thorough training, scouting, de-brief, etc. There really is a pro-active mentality before you ever step on the plane. Let me just say I am really, truly impressed by this sport. -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  9. Except for rig & gear, right? I'd consider those pretty important "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  10. True, nothing ventured nothing gained. Hey now, even Beavers can fly if they really want try! But as far as I know OSU has no skydiving club. I have seen posts from FallingDuck though, so maybe I'll get in touch w/ UO skydiving club. Maybe I could be an honorary member Thanks everyone for the great advice. Hanging out at the DZ does sound like a good idea before my tandem. -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  11. All I'm asking is "what is a skydiver's opinion about how skydive is portrayed on TV?" -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  12. I'm not sure if this forum is the correct place to post this (admin, feel free to bump if it isn't). I'm wondering what skydivers think about the malfunctions, injuries, etc. shown on television show like Real TV and how it possibly skews public's perception of skydive and BASE. Granted, there are very real and serious risks involved with this sport and pros & cons should be assessed by the individual to figure if skydive is right for you. Here's my thing: I think skydive is right for me (and I plan on a tandem this summer, just to make sure) but at the same time the sensationalism on TV kind of puts my stomach in knots. I'm not asking for reassurance; I think you all agree that I should try to talk myself into skydiving. If it's something I really can't handle, it's best for everyone that I don't. However I want the straight up truth rather than biased reality TV clips to base my decision on. thx much, Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  13. You mean Perrine in Idaho, right? What other legal sites are there in the US (and the world for that matter). I know a couple places have only certain times of the year you can legally BASE from the object. Bridge Day, KL Tower, Heliboogie (Norway), that's about all I know of. I've never jumped *yet*, nor do I intend to BASE anytime in the near future. But I am interested in skydive and (way, way, WAY down the road when I get the confidence & courage) BASE. "Object Strike"? Yuck, sounds brutal. -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  14. Hey everyone, I've always wondered, which element is best for someone's first BASE and why? -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
  15. Okay, so I've scoured the DZ website and read the glossary but I still don't understand...what exactly is a boogie? It's non-competitive, I get that. Is it costumes? dive formations? What? -Amber "Be The Change You Wish To See In The World" -Mahatma Ghandi
