Have any of you folks checked the penalty for DUI these days??? And we're just talking cars here!! In most states if you were perhaps stupid enough to be intoxicated and driving w/ a kid in the car you would be charged with felony DUI AND felony Endangerment of a Minor. So I'd say these guys should be charged not only with DUI charges, but also be held responsible for each and EVERY individual on that flight that they put in harms way. Think I'm being irrational?? Nope no way, I have been stupid enough to bag a DUI for myself and would be appaled if these to f*&kin morons got off easy, I sure as hell didn't. kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Justin, I again convey my condolences to the family and friends alike. I must say witnessing such an incident was a horrible way to drive a lesson home, but its there now. As I search for my new canopy certain images replay in my mind over and over. I know that in the end the knowledge gained will bring some meaning to all of this and reinforce that no one was lost in vein. I hope that the details and info I provided you about the accident of discussion were helpful in your search for answers. There are many questions to confront whenever someone close to us is lost. It's most unfortunate that this tragedy was not avoided as we know it could have been. I believe you are doing the right thing by spreading the word and trying to make something positive out of this. Your friend, by all accounts seemed to be someone who was destined to change the sport we love and with efforts such as yours that can be a reality. Good Luck kwak Stupidity is a crime.

I want to first apologize about being the first to mention the accident at ASC in the "Weekend Numbers" thread, but not giving details. I was in some ways hoping there would be someone else who would provide the info and also unsure that the proper people had been notified. I (fortunately in some ways) did not see the incident as I was inside the building, but was on scene moments after. I did not realize who it was for a few minutes as I did not want to add to the crowd. I can assure all that Tony received excellent care within seconds thanks to several giving medical professionals who were present and treated his injuries until the ambulance arrived and still longer until a LifeFlight arrived. I refuse to speculate about the accident, but I will say there were definately a series of factors the contributed to the injuries. Initial examination revealed a badly broken Femur and possibly hip along with massive head injuries. I met Tony and his friends on a ride to altitude earlier in the day, and we talked about how they decided to come to ASC and other things. Later in the day Tony and I talked about canopys and canopy sizing specifically. We talked of my search for gear and looking at 150 of some make and how he jumped a 150, but at a much higher loading than myself. Our conversation ended as his buddys were landing and he wanted to watch one of them perhaps to offer tips or advice. The incident hit close to me, though I hardly new the guy the thought of jumping with him and his buddies later in the day or partying that night were there. Bonfire talk was somber as we all hoped for the best. When word came later in the evening and his friends returned to the DZ I had lots of questions in my head about it all. Many were answered as we all agreed that no one who loved this sport would like it much if we didn't jump because of an accident they had. I was reassured the next day when everyone took to the skies. There is now an SIU club sticker in the Otter across from the door and I gave it a tap as I headed for the exit on my jumps Sunday. My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Tony a guy who is certainly above us all on our jumps these days. kwak Stupidity is a crime.

0,9,4? Nice jumps, several first in the air, tested out the new sunglasses in freefall they work awesome! did my first 7 way backed up by a 10 way for guys 100th jump, twas a blast even though i didn't make it in on the 10 way ;-( The first time I have ever gone low, who'd have thought it was possible with me? The beer count perhaps should be higher, iI won't be specific. I did have one very disturbing first though; being around for a fatal skydiving accident ;-( I have been witness to a serious injury or 2, but never a LifeFlight followed up a few hours later with the bad news. I was sure that I would see word of the incident here in the forums, but nothing yet. I am unsure about posting the info as some people may not have been notified yet. Just to take this on a different tangent.... As for numbers, and levels of experience needed to take on a new challenge, who the F*ck are we to decide?? Someone commented about perhaps bad advice or poorly judged statements being made and then seen by a lurking newbie and taken to heart. First off the probelm does not lie in the opinion or misinformation being posted here. The problem would be in any low-time jumper taking ANYTHING he reads here as the standard or good advice. I admit and am glad there are tons of very knowledgeable people here who give great advice. In contrast there are many who are nothing more than a "desk jockey" wanna be instructor talkin out there ass. I would certainly hope any newbie would seek the advice of someone (preferably an Instr.) that actually knows him and his abilitys with these questions. There is no reason to stop posting opinions on such matters or stop debating them. I do however think that the obvious gets overlooked here. Many people with 150 jumps are less skilled than peeps with 40 jumps. Many factors may contribute, currency being a huge one. What about those peeps out there with 80 jumps, 20 were hnps, none were ever coached and the balance were with equally or less experienced jumpers? I'd say that person has nothing more than a lil more canopy experience over myself with 30 jumps. Again what is experience?? I see it on the side of plumbers' vans all day long "20 yrs in the business" blah blah. SKILL is what were after here, not how long you've been able to survive w/o biting it. ok ok not flaming anyone, but that is MY OPINION kwak Stupidity is a crime.

We sat and watched some of Fast Eddy's "greatest hits" one day not long ago at ASC... The one where the guy passes out just as Eddy unbuckles him and falls face first is pretty good. The guy smacks it hard and then proceeds to throw up, Eddy appears to be reaching to help, but after a closer look you notice he is just moving the guys arm so he doesn't soil the jump suit!! kwak Stupidity is a crime.

Oh I see so you do go there on occasion. kwak Stupidity is a crime.

Funny, I was North of Atlanta, (Dacula) working this past Monday the 6th and had the same experience as Clay. We heard the damn thing 2 minutes before we saw it. From where I was it looked to be on approach into Gwinnett Regional Apt. In the same area it is very common to see a group of 4 or even 6 C-130s flying a tight formation at low altitudes. kwak Stupidity is a crime.
