PC and Xbox 360 ;) Can even download it here for 5 bucks right now: http://www.direct2drive.com/d2dturns5 Don't get me wrong, it's still a sci-fi type shooter game, but still, the backdrop is the most intelligent i've ever seen for a game. going to showcase my spectacular nerdiness here. Go read Ayn Rand, then if you want a popular, strangely out-of-place but amazingly fun criticism of her philosophy, go find and play the video game "Bioshock". Yeah, i'm not kidding. It came out a few years ago and the basic setting is a city under the ocean, isolated from society (built in the 50s), founded on, governed by, and ultimately destroyed by Objectivism in practice. The game developers' main argument against objectivism, and i tend to agree, is that it leaves NO ROOM for human emotion or irrationality, nor any way to deal with it when it surfaces. This is ultimately why this game-world city was destroyed...people were overcome by greed, lust for power, love, hatred, and other emotions that pure objectivism just can't handle. It's quite an interesting little thought experiment/commentary on the philosophy, wrapped in a mainstream package. on a side note, the game demonstrated to me how the medium could be used for true social commentary, if more developers would take the step... *shrug* Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

most reds tend to last longer than whites, and if it doesn't smell like vinegar, it probably hasn't turned. and to the person who throws away bottles after two weeks....i'm sorry you've never experienced a good bottle of wine. Some have to sit for 10 more years before it's time to drink them! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Which City Will Win the Olympic Games in 2016
BikerBabe replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Why is it ok for every other country to send their leader to make the pitch, but not the US? I don't see King Juan Carlos getting much flak for being there. As a matter of fact, wouldn't the US NOT sending our leader seem a sort of snub to the rest of the world, or at least to the IOC/competing nations? Portable pain weapon may end up in police hands
BikerBabe replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
exactly my point, bill...so why not give cops the tools to make that decision, rather than force them into making a more permanent one? Look, I worked on the Active Denial System, which is very similar except it uses microwaves instead of lasers. I've heard all the arguments against it before. I've been a test subject for it, stood in the beam for 1.6 seconds before jumping out, watched 4 star generals and media personalities stand in the beam for even less time....I can tell you, this shit WORKS, and it's SAFE. But in the end, if you want a HARMLESS (and trust me, it's harmless) way to get people to back the fuck up, this is the way to go. I am not scarred, i can still have babies, i didn't go blind, i don't have cancer. The pain disappeared as soon as i got out of the beam. Its the same sensation as when you open a hot oven door and the heat hits your face. can't please anyone these days Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -

ah, shit, you're right. Oh well, Spain can continue to be Europe's best kept secret. The place everyone skips on their tours of the continent...and ironically the most beautiful and least expensive place to visit Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -

I'd be rooting for Madrid anyway. But Spain has a special place in my heart. guess we'll know soon enough! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
to second Bill...we have some AMAZING microbreweries here in SD county. and quite a lot of them. I know you wouldn't think it, but San Diego is becoming a beer hotspot! And we all love beer, now, don't we? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals

BikerBabe replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
your question was answered already: what about teams with DZs in their names? Perris Fury has "Perris Valley Skydiving" all over their stuff, guess they are SOL. or better yet, what about a team like CSC Rhythm or other Advanced class teams who manage to eke out sponsorships with the promise that they will promote their sponsors. Now they have to renege on those promises? I'm interested in the Golden Knights question. Also, i haven't seen this point brought up much, but the TIMING of this seems a bit shady in and of itself. TWO WEEKS (!!!) before the event, they drop this bomb? That's bullshit right there. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -

uh...wow. my first thought is: "i can see the shit storm coming from 20 miles away". Of course, Spaceland is a private company, they can do what they want, but in general people hate change, and this is change. I never found the sponsor stuff to be that bad during nationals, it's nice to get free stuff and most competitors know how to tune out the BS. Of course, now it will only be approved BS that we'll have to tune out. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
yeah, sounds like an MMO might be your thing, heh. it really is all about the social stuff. All of the games i mentioned, Lisa, have multiplayer modes (online, but you can always get your friends playing it, heh) Minimal, do you play eq2? I do...i wasted 3 years on wow before i found eq2, which is a WAAAAAY better game all around. Now i'm pretty well solely an eq2 player. because no matter how much action or snazzy graphics your game has, what makes games endure through time is amazing writing and a compelling story. That's why BG I, II and Planescape Torment STILL make many reviewers' and game websites' "best of" lists. Honestly, if you're a D&D fan, give them a try. of course, it's older rulesets, but the soul is still there. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

is it super tight across the chest, or lengthwise? I'm assuming this is an RW suit. If it is too tight lengthwise, i would get it fixed, since it will hinder your ability to arch. your Z measurement is probably too short. this is a COMMON measurement mistake! across...well, suck it up, cupcake this thread is worthless without pictures! Not stupid. Never got into the pen and paper ones myself, but some of the best computer games ever made are all based on D&D rules. If you fancy taking a step into the digital age and still want the D&D feel, give Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 a try, or even better, Planescape:Torment (still tops my list of best games ever made). They are old, and you'll probably have to find them on amazon or somewhere, but they're worth it. And they'll run on any modern computer, hehe. If you're into the DMing part, try Neverwinter Nights. It has tons of capability for creating your own worlds and DMing them. And Zelda is NOT an RPG.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

hehe i have mixed feelings about UAVs, all based on personal history. On one hand, they do their jobs efficiently and well. Not to mention, they keep my husband employed! On the other hand, having a pilot up there provides a level of judgment no drone will ever attain. (this is coming from my history as someone who worked on projects for the best plane in the AF inventory, the U-2 ) I am quite sure Gen. McChrysal was talking about the drones that are actually weaponized (the Predator B), rather than the recce UAVs that are out there. eyes in the sky is one thing, but turning those eyes into weapons is where the friendly fire/civilian casualties/etc comes in. No field commander that I EVER dealt with had anything but positive things to say about the reconnaissance-mission predators. Of course the irony is, putting Hellfire missiles onto Predator drones was an idea put forward and championed by, you guessed it, field commanders. Easy. Intelligence. And along with that an interest and ability to observe and comment and form opinions on the world around them. If they can't keep up with me in a conversation, i'm not interested. But if they can...oh boy, is that ever sexy. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

me too...already cited it earlier in the thread. Job 38 is one of my favorites when i see people pontificating about how there's NO WAY a certain thing could possibly be true, especially in the whole science/religion thing. Of course, call me a heretic but i believe science is the product of a God-given rational mind, given to us so we can increase our understanding of God and the world, with the ultimate goal of drawing closer to Him...not driving us away. But what do i know? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

the trouble with renaming it to "civil union" is that all those laws that provide those 1138 rights and privileges will have to be scoured and changed to say "civil union" instead of "marriage". Partner instead of spouse, etc etc. Because if they aren't, you KNOW some money-grubbing insurance company is going to deny someone coverage based on the fact they aren't "married" but "civil union-ed" and they'd probably win in court So from a purely logistical standpoint, calling everything a "marriage" is the better choice. And probably cheaper too. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Nope. People that THINK they are Christians, but are not, believe those things. turtle, shall i quote someone who might disagree with your judgment? How about Job 38:1-18? So are you saying you know the HOW of creation? really? Were you there? Don't tell me i'm not a Christian because i am humble enough to know that i DON"T know the mind and will and abilities of God. Don't tell me I'm not a Christian because i believe that science is a God-given way for us to draw closer to Him. Were YOU there?
